Hey, I have a question for the married lady randoms (any other comments also appreciated)

What is an acceptable price for an engagement ring? Something that is quality and nice, but something that is within a poor medical student range. I really don't want to go cheap-ass because I know it is important. But I don't know if I can handle something upwards of $10,000.

I have no idea whats quality and whats not.
Some of the rings I've been looking at are less than 2k but I like saphires not diamonds so that makes a difference. You can get really nice rings for less than 2k.

i think the last time i was in the philippines vin was there... or his brother. one of them was dating a girl from there

So anastasis, you'll prob hate me for this... but what is so attractive about vin diesel. He looks so goofy in that picture, like he's trying too hard to be cool.

lol - I was catching up on the pages I missed so I didn't see that post til just now. 😀

This might sound odd, especially if you've never seen an interview with him, but he's actually really intelligent and really passionate about his work. I've always like beefy guys too. Pretty boys just don't do it for me; I can't date a guy that spends more time in the bathroom than I do. Hope that makes sense.

Nobody's saying they cornered the market on the idea that there should be fewer malpractice cases. But in saying that addressing the root cause of malpractice is a better plan than tort reform for addressing the medmal issue, I do think they have separated themselves from most of their colleagues across the aisle.

I was thinking about the cases where complications arise that are not the physician's fault, yet they get sued, and lose. The easiest place to start is to cap actual damages as well as lowering malpractice rates from the get-go. The article implies that this was an independent thought by Democrats and I call BS. Sen. Frist has introduced a patient safety and quality improvement act and Patient safety and errors reduction act to address errors, the reporting of errors, research into errors and ways to correct them. This sounds to me like Obama and Clinton are trying to introduce the same thing in order to get the credit.

Sen Frist is also Bill Frist, M.D. who not only is a physician but has a long history of working with healthcare. I happen to support his legislature and the article was attacking it.

The second study cited in the article was published in May. I think that meets most criteria for being current. Since I'm not sure if you read that part, I'll reproduce it here:

I did miss this in the article. But still, it's a small study to look at less than 2000 cases from the whole united states. And what kind of cases were they? OB? Gas? Surgery? Where were the cases done? What population were they done on? Why did the malpractice happen in the first place? There's much more that needs to be answered.

I am interested to know where you get the idea that if total malpractice suits go down, awards will go up. Do you have evidence for that?

That was strictly opinion based on litigious nature.

I'm not sure how Hillarycare fits in here. This article doesn't even venture near that territory.

Sorry - see my comment re: Clinton and Obama at the top.

I can see that... but are you sure vin doesnt spend a lot of time in the bathroom? He may be beefy, but hes a celeb, which prob makes him spend tons of time trying to look good.

Megboo, I meant to ask you a few days ago how you liked Czestochowa. That is where I grew up and I still have a house there and go back every summer.

Seriously, I really enjoyed it. It was winter so there was a foot of snow on the ground and I got some great photos. The black Madonna is very moving to say the least. I didn't get to see much of the town, mostly just the shrine.

Maybe I should amend that to say "looks like he spends more time in the bathroom" because you gotta agree THAT isn't true. 😉

My ring is not a diamond - it's Moissanite. I have a 1 carat princess-cut center stone and two .5 carat princess-cut stones on the side of the center and two .33 carat trillion-cut stones on the end. The center was my engagement ring and the others are on my wedding band as a "wrap".

I opted for the Moissanite long before my husband ever proposed so we could remodel our kitchen. Moissanite looks just like diamond except can be slightly green in darker lighting and has the same hardness and clarity. And costs about 75% less. My ring in diamond would have been over 10K but it was about $1500 with moissanite (including the setting).

It's not for everyone, but at this point, I desperately wanted a new kitchen over diamonds.

For a good engagement ring, diamond, expect to pay $3-4K depending on the clarity. Get her around a carat, but you will save $$ if you get .95 carat vs. 1.05 carat.

I'm glad you liked my little city. There's not too much aside from the cathedral tourist-wise, but I like my home 😀 . My fav cities are gdansk, krakow, and zakopane.

ACK! I forgot we went to Zakopane! Yep I loved all 3. GDansk reminded me of Amsterdam. Krakow was amazing. The St. Mary's Cathedral was having a tribute to PJP II and just the city itself is amazing.

hee hee - I need to get started on these secondaries before I get buried in them: Temple, WashU (assuming I get the calc thing worked out), Mich, GW, TCOM (?)
i hope you get the calc thing worked out. WashU is a great school. and they also LOVE high MCAT scores (which is why i'm not applying there...😛)

I chose my list based on lowest average gpas and most OOS basically

i think i'm aiming to do that too.

do you really need a lor from a DO doc is you apply to DO schools?

What area of the country? I'm in CT and there are some DO's around. I'm thinking EM and the Level Trauma Center I work at has multiple DO's so I don't mind getting accepted to either program. I just want to practice.

i'm actually trying to get a job at AMC!

i don't want to apply there, but i got yelled at for not considering it

I'm in Albany right now, but I live down in the city. I've worked with doctors down there and know quite a bit more... but it really is rare to find a DO

Ya, it's not ideal, but I'll take it. Plus their philosophy really is great. I am just hoping that UConn will consider me and grant me an interview. Then I can win them over 😀

Same here.

Honestly, how long are these tapes? I'd imagine they take at least 4 hours.

P.S.: I actually liked Devil Wears Prada, and that's quite a feat since I'm a dude.

hi guys. i dont think i'm coming home tonight. 🙁 i have call at 730 so i'll probably end up sleeping over at the student call room. i have to be here at 6AM tomorrow anyways so if they let me out at 100AM or something its just not worth driving the 45 minutes home and then 45 minutes back in the morning.

i dont have a patient right now though so i'm in the library until my lecture from 5-730, i'm gonna try to get some studying done at least. what sucks is that whatever patient i admit tonight i have to write up the admit note and then research the patients problems for presentation at rounds tomorrow. wtf... if i dont finish the note until 1-2 in the morning, sleeping over in the on call room will be the only way for me to get some sleep.

i said it before...... booooooooooooooooooooo to med student call, we're not freaking residents, its crazy.

[/rant]

yeah boooo! good luck tonight........ :luck: 😍
