I was thinking about the cases where complications arise that are not the physician's fault, yet they get sued, and lose. The easiest place to start is to cap actual damages as well as lowering malpractice rates from the get-go. The article implies that this was an independent thought by Democrats and I call BS. Sen. Frist has introduced a patient safety and quality improvement act and Patient safety and errors reduction act to address errors, the reporting of errors, research into errors and ways to correct them. This sounds to me like Obama and Clinton are trying to introduce the same thing in order to get the credit.

Sen Frist is also Bill Frist, M.D. who not only is a physician but has a long history of working with healthcare. I happen to support his legislature and the article was attacking it.

I am well aware of the background (and remote diagnosis skills, if we're going to bring up past mistakes) of our esteemed Senate Majority Leader. 🙂

I agree with you that the article is certainly slanted against Sen. Frist, but on the whole I don't think that impacts the data discussed, which is the piece that interested me.

Since you brought it up, though, I think there is a difference in focus, intent, and scope of the different pieces of legislation offered by Frist and Clinton/Obama. I also think that the idea of fixing medical errors did not originate with Sen. Frist and probably will not end with Clinton/Obama and that jockeying for credit is an equal opportunity game in DC.

I did miss this in the article. But still, it's a small study to look at less than 2000 cases from the whole united states. And what kind of cases were they? OB? Gas? Surgery? Where were the cases done? What population were they done on? Why did the malpractice happen in the first place? There's much more that needs to be answered.

The study was linked to in the article, so I'm not sure why you're asking me, but here's the direct link. If you can't access NEJM through school, I'd be happy to shoot you a PDF copy.

Awwww, true love!

My husband called my parents before he bought the ring. They knew a week before I did!

He didn't do anything grandiose to propose, just came home from work and got down on one knee. He did it on Groundhog's Day when I was expecting something on Valentine's though!

Don't put it in champagne or food, though. I've heard so many stories about cracked teeth and choking

You know, if you got accepted to your dream school, you could ask them to re-type your acceptance letter with a proposal

Here's a website on proposals http://www.firstdance.com/mp2.htm

I like the one where the guy takes her to look at rings "just to look" but already bought one. Her parents were in on it and scheduled a "Sunday BBQ" but really it was an engagement party. That's a cute idea.

Gosh, I'm all excited for you!

That would be hysterical!

I finally finished the GW secondary wohooo

And I have my pre-health committee interview on thursday (anyone know how long a school typically takes to write the letter?)

Now I just need AMCAS verified 😡

how was temple's?

you're not going to temple and you know it. when you get in, give me your spot! 😉

Not bad a "Why Temple?" and "what are you doing this year?" with no char limits 😡 which makes it frustrating to figure out how much you should write 😛

I hate the what are you doing this year questions, because I still don't know what I am doing 🙁

My two main possibilities are working a year internship at a medical device company or working full time in a hospital, so that's what I am putting. Hopefully it's ok

yeah luckily I'm not doing anything to complicated. Now the secondaries that want to know what you were doing after you graduated college. Hee hee - that's a novel right there.
