lol - I was catching up on the pages I missed so I didn't see that post til just now. 😀

This might sound odd, especially if you've never seen an interview with him, but he's actually really intelligent and really passionate about his work. I've always like beefy guys too. Pretty boys just don't do it for me; I can't date a guy that spends more time in the bathroom than I do. Hope that makes sense.

he certainly is beefy

Hey, I have a question for the married lady randoms (any other comments also appreciated)

What is an acceptable price for an engagement ring? Something that is quality and nice, but something that is within a poor medical student range. I really don't want to go cheap-ass because I know it is important. But I don't know if I can handle something upwards of $10,000.

I have no idea whats quality and whats not.

I think $5k is safe 😉

I have my eye on this:

The "priced from" is around what I was looking to spend. I don't know what is more important though. Diamond size or Shape of the ring? or Both?

I'm like 10 pages behind right now and trying to catch up so sorry if someone already answered this!

You should balance size with quality for what you can afford - I personally didn't want the best, best quality because then you sacrifice size and you can only tell how nice it is under a magnifying glass anyway.

Of course, you did say medical student budget - I'm sure she would be thrilled with something less. 🙂

Another idea - buy the diamond you can afford and put it in a cheap setting and then let your fiancee go pick out the setting she wants for the diamond. 🙂

been working all day. computers and image analysis and grants. And still working on grants. help. I'll be back in a few days when this mess is done. Probably tomorrow night. Or thurs. Tomorrow I have to go grocery shopping since it didn't get done back.

thanks, oxeye, for the adivce!

I think I am going to stay under 5K, and probably stay away from name inflated brands.

PS, I really like the birthstone idea! I might have to steal that from your husband 🙂

Ana how beefy of a guy do you need? If you're looking for someone of VD's size, you've just eliminated 99% of the male population

Hahahaha, my husband doesn't get credit for that idea. 😉 He proposed to me with a teeny tiny little ring - just something cheap to have when he did it, but he wanted us to design our own rings when we got closer to the wedding.

So I designed my own ring (more or less - the setting is based very closely on a 1930s ring I saw on the internet that I loved!!) and the sapphire idea was mine. :meanie:

Oh - and you idea to stay away from name inflated brands is a good one. 🙂

I helped my BIL with choosing my sister's engagement ring. He got a really good deal online actually!!

I am okay with not so beefy - just look at my boyfriend. He's a big boy but not that big.

But I like a guy that works out - If I can win at armwrestling, no so attractive.
