Have fun with those SN2 things! My favorite was Crown solvent!

I know what you're talking about, but we're not even close to that yet! We discussed resonance in class today.

It's definitely an interesting class - mostly reading and group work in class and group work/wet labs in lab.

He doesn't lecture much, but gives up handouts for the group to discuss and wanders around the room for help. You really have to keep up with the material to participate in the group, and we self-grade our group on a scale of 1-5. If, when he reads our group evaluation and agrees with our self-grade, we get double points to serve as extra credit.

for example, we did a group lab on Lewis structures yesterday and rated our score as a 4/5 since we were a little rusty on gen chem as a group. Since he agreed with our score, we got an 8/5! Also, on quizzes, we get bonus points if everyone in our group scores well (out of 10 points).

For this type of class, I really like the way it's organized. Really, if you keep up with the readings and do what's expected, you should at LEAST get a B.

That sounds great! I know of a few classes here at UF that were the opposite. My friends hated their orgo professors. It's a shame that some professors make the experience so bad that people automatically blame it on the material. It's an intereseting class and it seems like your professor wants it to be that way. 🙂

Durden, do your math skills get rusty?
I took a compuational physics class last semester where it was all computer coding, and I forgot how to do a pretty easy integral this morning in optics.

Normal?

What kind of English? Hopefully you're already done with comp 1 and 2.

I APed out of those so I'm taking intermediate literature courses. I'm going for the easier professors and convenient times over content. I'm still just as excited as BB about it.

Yea, I wouldn't sweat it. Despite completing Calc III, diffy q, and linear algebra by the end of sophomore year, I can only do basic integration these days without having to look things up. The programs used in engineering to solve problems have made me lazy.

Yea...We can't use Maple or anything.

The last real math class I took was Calc 2 back in high school. I think I already forgot integrals. 🙂

I vaguely remember integrals, but that was back in high school. My teacher sounded like...

my foray into the arts is going to suck.

boys, if a speech path and a social worker can delve into organic and physics, then you guys can certainly handle a couple of liberal arts classes

So so true. Though for the record, I still say Organic was easier than some of my advanced English classes.

I was looking at my ugrad transcript a while back and saw an English class I didn't even remember taking. I got a B. I finally did recall that I absolutely hated the teacher, so I must have blacked out the rest from my mind.... couldn't tell you what we read in there.

I remember my first yr English class. Overall, it was pretty good. It was a definate challenge though and I liked almost everything...except poetry and the more abstract things. Give me concrete things like numbers, I can work with those anyday!

I took a class that I loved called Arthurian Lit the only problem was the prof had this heinous attendance policy. I had 3 university excused absences from his class. He took 2.5 points off my final grade for each one which gave me a 89.5 and he refused to round up. 😡

I remember one of my friends taking a children's literature class for an english credit, thinking it would be a breeze. It turned out to be one of the hardest classes she took that year

this was Intro to Fiction. I think I AP tested out of my initial Comp class, but then still had to take Comp II.. and then my SW major required Business and Professional Writing. Which at the time, we all hated, but now- I totally see the value in. Again- stoopid maturity. 🙄

No numbers? No absolute answers? No fun!

concrete thinkers. gotta love'em. I love doing therapy with engineers. seriously. forcing them to sit with ambiguity and no clear answers, it really makes'em squirm. 😀

I hope I don't have to go through therapy to get my cookies. :scared:

no but my office is about 3 blocks from the med school, so I may have you meet me there.

if it helps, I'm such a serious being that I took a nap on my office couch today. 😳 (hey- I had a fever earlier. I felt like crap and I had a 1/2 hour to kill.)

I have to say if I don't get an A in organic I this semester I am not worthy for med school. Well have 4 exams, 75 pts is take home, 100 pts is in class. Then the remaining 100 or so is from lab. Although my prof is SOOOOOOOoo boring. I will have to post some of his notes. They are copies of overheads where he is pretty much just regurgitating the book. This is going to be soooooooo boring. There is another prof that was rated good but its a friday night lecture and saturday morning lab. 🙁 I want my weekends!

My meteorology class I'm REALLY disappointed in. I might drop it. But that means I have to find another class. Its only 2 exams and 2 homeworks. Midterm/Final is 40% each and the remaining 20% is just 2 homeworks. She didn't seem that enthused to be there and she didn't even tell us anything about herself. I want someone as excited about weather as I am.

Oh and there is a TD4 out in the Atlantic. Yes I'm monitoring it 😛

Meteorology?! That's one awesome elective I wish was offered on my campus.

I wanted to take Light, Color, and Hologram during my last semester this past Spring, but I couldn't fit it in. 🙁

Wow, and I thought my Modern Architecture next semester was edgy. Is second semester of senior year too late to transfer to your or mushy's school?

my girlfriend had her first real lecture today and claims she hates med school already 🙁 she is already talking about dropping out if she continues to hate it and all she can talk about is how she is going to fail out. the funny thing is, she was so excited and confident when she was accepted. is this normal? i am trying so hard to encourage her but there is only so much i can do on the sidelines

What does she hate about it. We need to find the root of the problem and then we can solve.

Hi all...ok, I guess the best question to ask is: Who, after this week, will NOT be back in class? Tomorrow is going to go by way too fast! I know I will be looking at the clock trying to suck every last second out of every last minnute of the last day of freedom. :meanie:

All the meteorology majors i knew in college hated their major. Apparently it's one of the hardest majors out there
