Used Car Shoping Horror story of the day:
So I really liked that Matrix so I thought I'd give it one more shot and try to test drive it. The battery was dead so I couldn't test drive it and when I pointed out the blue book value, THIS guy says, "Hmmm You probably did it wrong. Leave that to us professionals." 😡

I gather from previous posts you live in a small town. Since this is a big purchase maybe you should go to a bigger city with lots of dealerships so you can find a competent salesman/the perfect car, since there will be a much bigger selection.

I have a headache today that I can't get rid of. 🙁 Usually some combination of caffeine, advil, or tylenol will help but not this one. I haven't tried the migraine medicine yet because it doesn't feel like a migraine and I don't want to waste those pills.

Hope you feel better oxeye!

You still have that percocet? 😉

I'll postwhore it up on August 20th.

Its not until the 20th, so much as after the 19th and 20th are over. You all know the usual.........this thread is going to be flooding with Form abcdefg etc. etc. etc. kinda threads.

Then there's going to be the horror stories from the devil's home about what happened at the crappier test centers and so forth.

I hate salespeople like that. I take great pleasure in telling them to their face that their horrible attitude is the reason I won't be buying from them. And have a nice day. 🙂

I have to share my nasty salesperson story. We decided to buy a new car when I found out I was pregnant last time because we couldn't fit two carseats in the old car. I decided to drive to the next town over to look at the cars at the Chrysler dealership there. My husband was working, but I figured I would bring him back if we worked out a deal on something I liked.

So, I get there and ask to see their used models (we were planning on going with a 2004 Pacifica to save a little money). There was one that was perfect so I asked the guy if we could go inside to talk money. He told me "Sorry, we won't talk to you without your husband here." Ummmm, EXCUSE ME?! I believe that was my exact response. I told him that I make the financial decisions in this family and if we worked out a deal we could come back that evening and sign the papers. His response "Sorry it's our policy. We've had too many deals fall through after we just talked to the wife so your husband needs to be here if he's going to be on the paperwork." I asked if they had this same policy for husbands present without their wives and his response was "No." I was LIVID!!!!!! I had driven nearly an hour with a 15 month old and first trimester pregnant (ie tired and sick to my stomach) only to have this a$$hole not even talk to me.

So, I went back to the dealership locally. They didn't have any used cars but we just decided to go with a new one (which I LOVE, so in the end I'm happy about it). I told them about my experience with their competition. It was freaking hilarious - the salesman wouldn't even LOOK at my husband when we were working out the final details of the sale for fear of making me mad and losing the deal.

I have family that lives in the DFW area so I think when I'm next up there I'm going to drive around and look for a car. I've basically given up down here. Plus that gives me a couple of months to save up a bigger downpayment 👍 Plus, bigger area to sell my Jeep.

I did have a moment today when I realized I had gotten attached to my jeep and didn't really want to sell it 🙁 but it's just too unreliable for my life right now. 🙁

Awww, I loved my Jeep too. I was so sad to see it go.

What kind of Jeep do you have? 🙂

I am watching season 1 right now 😀

There is hardly anything that makes me belly laugh but there are a few guaranteed big laughs in each episode. It is great.

I'm on the fifth season. I get them on DVD.

I need some help on this and it just came to my mind. Speed is all relative, right? I.e. If I drive at 50mph on the road, I'm using the Earth as the fixed point even though it's rotating itself. So if I were to measure the speed of light on the Earth's surface, would it read close to 3x10^8 or would it read at 3x10^8 - speed at the surface of the rotating Earth in respect to itself?

oh man i would love to help but it's too late for this type of thinking

hey! I've moved into my new apartment and I really like it!

random side note: Beary! I saw the coolest semi truck today at a turnipike reststop--I think it was for Harvick b/c it had Reeses and GM Goodwrench stuff all over it

I can't remember, but did you say you were thinking of going to Six Flags? I just heard today that the company was thinking of selling 6 of them because they're in financial problems. This was a month ago so I'm a little slow on the news...Someone else told me today he knows a real estate guy who mentioned someone already bought the LA Magic Mountain Six Flag very recently and Lennar Homes from FL will develop the places. Two of the rides have already been sold!!! 😱

Well...3.0 x 10^8 is the speed in a vacuum. It should still be close to that value from earth.

Whoa. That is way too deep for me.

I was trying to figure out if that speed is based on moving fixed points. I.e. the Earth is rotating at close to 1,000 mph (I think close to that). So if you measure the speed on Earth, but "look at it" from a non-moving point in space, the initial velocity is 1,000 mph. i.e. you're in a space ship going 2.99x10^8 m/s and you have headlights. You turn them on. Will the light go at 5.99x10^8 m/s or .01x10^8 m/s? Then I also want to know that if the universe is expanding, we're moving already more in one direction, right? So is the speed of light actually faster than 3x10^8 since we don't know the exact rate of the universe expanding?

Edit: I'm assuming the light is in a vacuum tube on Earth so that wouldn't really affect it. I just don't understand when people say "speed" or "velocity" because it's all based on fixed points and what determines what a fixed point in the universe is kinda hard imo...

I'll have to ponder that... post MCAT.

molly i am doing great this evening--thanks for asking. How are you?

I'm just marvelous. It was an absolutely gorgeous day here, the textbooks I ordered are trickling in, and I haven't forgotten as much anatomy as I thought I had. All in all, it's been a lovely day.
