Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

a few schools in the country do this, we do it at someplace someplace too. 😍

Are you serious?? I just got my long coat when I started residency. *sigh*

The med students at Michigan wear short coats.

Those of you with long coats as med students - is your coat different than the residents' in any way?

Die.

Your team will sucketh this year.
Bite me, t-sip. Who got their ass handed to them by OSU? Not my team. :meanie:

I'm still pissed you got to go to the game last night. :meanie: I mean seriously! Beer, College Football, and boys in uniform as far as the eye can see; that's my kind of place.

I got slammed when I was shadowing for wearing a long-coat. WTF? So what am I supposed to wear? I'm not a med student yet. 😕

That's lame. Who slammed you?

EVERYBODY in the hospital wears long white coats instead of med students anyway, so I think it is a dumb tradition.

I almost never wear a white coat, period. I was always getting in trouble for it in med school, but thankfully now nobody expects pathologists to wear white coats. Occasionally I wear it on rounds with clinicians who don't me just to identify myself as a physician. But that's it.

Chris Simms sucks so bad. Zero TDs and 3 interceptions today. Not a single TD in both of our games so far. Only 1 FG. I've been saying since the beginning of last year. Get this joke off our team!!! 😡

Well, I know that he girls I was with (who were friends of friends) were absolutely in HEAVEN. They were a bit boy crazy last night.

I think you would have been too. :meanie:

Oh, and go ahead. Build up your hopes. Come Thanksgiving it's all over....:horns::meanie::horns:

oh great. Now when I told my mom med students have short white coats and residents/attendings are long white coats is a lie. 😉

I don't understand why some schools do the long white coat thing. So I want to know why too!! 😀 Spill the beans!

Good luck tonight molly!

I was about to say WTF because the Giants play the Eagles today and they play rain/sunshine/snow/etc. I guess you're doing some baseball-talk here. Real men don't stop because it rains, ha!
really? football goes on in bad weather? WOW- did NOT know that. continue to enlighten me, oh you sports god, you!

🙄

soooooooooooooooooo... Will, by your definition, the F1 drivers aren't real men?

(pssst- beary! we need to have a talk about NASCAR 😉 :meanie: )

FYI - F1 does race in the rain, NASCAR doesn't. We've talked about this before, I posted pics for Beary. They just raced in the rain in Hungary. Last year in Australia was the same and also in Japan. There was a typhoon the day before the race and it still rained a lot. The full wet tires are actually called "monsoon" tires. They also don't have headlights when they race in the rain like LeMans does (they race in the rain, too).

All I'm saying is that I don't see a good reason for baseball to not play in the rain. I understand if lightning is a problem because they hold football games (high school, college, and pro) if there's lightning in the area. If not, play ball. Why can't baseball folks do the same?

I understand why NASCAR doesn't race in the rain--for some races. I.e. Talladega and Daytona because those are super speedways. It's too dangerous to have the cars going 190 mph in the wet. Also, the cars mainly have mechanical grip. Meaning the grip is from the tires and and weight of the car. F1 has mainly areo grip where all the wings and diffusers add more weight to the car. I.e. at 100mph, the cars "weigh" 2x their weight at 0 mph because the movement of air on the wings. NASCAR cup cars have 1 wing, that small one at the back. The force of friction increases on F1 cars at increased speeds because of more downforce. Nascar is really about the same grip at any speed.

Indy Cars are lame because they have good aero grip like F1 cars, but dont' race in the rain. Thankfully, ChampCar races in the rain like F1.

Tennis guys don't play in the rain because they can't get grip to run around just like NASCAR. There is no problem with running in the rain for baseball and football because of cleats.

Edit: Soccer (football) players also play in the rain because they have cleats. 🙂

Well racing cars is a little dangerous in the rain, no? But no, I don't think they are 😛 (not that anyone asked me 😀 ) NASCAR men are insane to drive that fast. :scared:

no, we have the exact same coats the residents and attendings wear. our school told us the custom of making students wear short coats is idiotic and doesnt match the philosophy of making us members of the healthcare team. thats the official explanation. 😀

i've even seen debates about this in the usmle forums where people warn the students that go to long coat schools like mine to wear short coats on the day of step 2 cs so that the graders dont think we're foreign grads. whatever. 🙄

hey good afternoon mush! yeah like i said, my school just thinks it's a stupid "tradition" and so we dont do it. long coats for everyone at someplace someplace! 👍

so from reading multiple posts, what I see is- you're just going to be negative about baseball no matter what anyone else says?

OK. I can work with that. Don't agree, but can work with it.

I can watch some baseball games no problem. I prefer to play it, but I've just never liked the rain delays.

I can't remember the specific matchups, but I did like quite a bit of the playoff games last year. I will tune in a little bit this season, but I hate the Yankees (they try to buy the championship, I'm so happy they haven't won since about 2000). I'll be rooting for the White Sox (my favorite city) if they get in...

I like baseball. I like it more when I can go to games instead of watching it on tv. My friends and I made a pitcher cry once. It was awesome.

But I do think it's kinda pansy-ass that they don't play in the rain. I remember going to the Wyoming game my freshman year at A&M and losing feeling in my hands because it was freezing/raining. Now THAT'S a sport!

🙄

freaking gators. 😛

I want an honest answer: Would you root for the Gators if we somehow get to the championship game?

After giving an honest answer, highlight the text below to read:

I actually rooted for FSU last year against PSU and for Miami, but for UF when we played Miami in the Peach Bowl a couple years ago.

I think it's easier for me to really get into a baseball playoff game because the crowd makes it more exciting. I've watched a few games this season where there's barely a crowd. It feels more like practice than anything. Some of the playoff games last year were really good because the crowd just makes it come to life imo.

😀 my brother just called, and my bday present from my family is going to be tickets to go see Quidam, the Cirque de Soleil show that's touring.

Ooh good taste!! I have been trying to convince hubby to go see Cirque...he won't even watch it on Bravo. 😡

One of these days!

Hey I rooted for Texas against USC.

Well, it also wasn't too hard for me to root for the Heat when they have Shaq, who we drafted in Orlando. He took us to the Finals in 1995. 😉

Wade is probably my 2nd favorite player in the NBA. Very good, but almost just as important, very humble. Not a flashy kind of guy (except for his nickname: Flash 😛 )

My favorite player is Dwight Howard from the Magic. He's only 20 and a freakin' monster.

Ok, a little avatar reaction:

A-man...yours makes me super hungry, but at least it doesn't make me think that Uma Thurman is satan.

VD...yours makes me feel certain that I am a total nerd surrounded by the same. I 😍 you peeps...but if that is our sense of humor...we have serious issues!! :meanie:
