Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

With all that said, let the green flag wave! Boogity Boogity Boogity!!!

I remember seeing some stat like the two highest paid people in the entire UC system were dermpaths making over $1 million a year, but I could be mistaken. Is the fellowship more competitive than simply matching in derm? I haven't really looked that far ahead, but I do have a general sense what are the competitive fellowships in different specialties.

I've heard just the residency is competitive. Like rad and anes...

I wouldn't be surprised if that statistic is correct. Dermpath is much more competitive than matching into derm. Both paths and derms can apply for dermpath fellowships, and as you know matching into derm is already very competitive so those folks are the cream of the crop to begin with. So you end up with the very best derms and the very best paths fighting for a very limited number of spots.

Any of you randomites applying this year applying to Iowa? Just curious, since I was just pushing Michigan. 😳 If I had to do it all over again, I would go to Iowa again in a heartbeat.

No, I'm having problems determining which schools I will apply to without my mcat score. 😳 So far I only have 4 schools down for sure and they're all in-state.

Wow, that must be some showdown. :wow:

UMich has their lectures on streaming video via internet, in case you miss class or don't wanna go to class.

Where the f have you been? 😡 Submitted on 8/25. If I go by your figures (since my classes are pretty much as easy to check as yours), it should be verified on Monday. 🙂

My bad, I stopped following that thread the moment I was verified. 😀

Where the f are your pre-emptively completed secondaries?

maybe for residency .... we'll see 😉 I'm getting ahead of myself a bit.

Woohoo, yeah I remember that! That would be perfect because ideally long-term I would like to live in Nebraska/Iowa/Kansas/South Dakota. So maybe we will finally live close to each other! 😀

Damn, I did not know. 👍

So far I want a school that:

Has all rotations in one (or two) very nearby hospitals if not on campus that doesn't have much traffic. Affordable, but if the school has excellent sports, I won't complain too much.

Some dude that goes to Mayo said he has class "everyday of the week" and has 2 week vacations every 6 weeks or so. I do not want class 24/7, no thanks.

Yay!

Yeah, my husband's sister, BIL, and nieces live an hour from Iowa City so it would nice to have some family reasonably close by. They're totally pushing for us to move out there at least.

I'm not sure I could handle the winters, or the summers for that matter.

I'm feeling less nervous about my interview. I went over a bunch of questions with my husband last night and it was actually kind of fun. 🙂 We're going to do some more tonight and I'm really looking forward to it.

Just knowing that I can think through this stuff is helping my nerves.

I didn't think it could be possible, but p chem lab was much, much worse. :scared:

Gen Chem 1 lab was the worst. You had to do the entire experiment and answer questions in the 3 hours there.

Gen Chem 2 lab was pretty fun. You could work at your own pace and you'd have a long time to work on any experiment you wanted. Just do them all by the time the semester was over.

Orgo Lab was fun, but that's because we had a cool TA and other students.

Plus, Mayo is in MN for the first 2 years (rotations anywhere). No offense to anyone from MN of course. 😉

That's so funny how people are different. I'm not a fan of Mayo but almost interviewed there exclusively because it was in small town Minnesota.

I'm never going to take p. chem lab. 😀

My only fond memory was when a lab group put the bomb back in bomb calorimetry. They flunked the experiment for accidentally destroying the nearby computer, but the rest of us had a blast that day watching the carnage.

If they gave me Vikings and Timberwolves season tickets, I would consider it because it makes up for the Mayo Div IA football and bball teams or lack thereof. 😉

And I'm wondering if I should go but a different interview suit. My mom sent me a pretty substantial gift certificate for Ann Taylor for my birthday. I could go suit shopping again or I could just buy a pretty shell for the black suit that I have and save the rest of the gift certificate for clothes I'll actually wear more than once.

Probably should do the latter huh?

That reminds me...I am attracted to Michigan because I wouldn't be harassed for being a Bulldog fan 🙂
