Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

My thoughts on Wash U:
1) I got accepted to their MSTP. Went elsewhere.
2) I interviewed there for path. They were the only place I went to that I didn't even rank.

I guess those aren't thoughts, but you can probably interpret my thoughts from those facts.

Speaking of the crock pots, I'm cooking pork chops, but threw some different canned soups in plus extra wild rice. I hope it turns out ok: Pork chops + chicken and stars soup + bean and bacon soup + extra rice + bay leaves, garlic powder, salt & pepper.

We'll see 😉

I love the neighborhood of Wash U though. Well, the medical center is ominous, but forest park and the CWE are happenin'.

hahahaha! that sounds like a case of "dump whatever's in the cabinet into the crockpot"!

Freestyle crock-pot cooking.

Seriously, someone should make a crockpot cookbook based on making stuff with whatever's in your pantry instead of having to shop for recipes.

Hmm. What is chicken and stars soup?

I actually don't have a whole lot of love lost for Wash U. I'm still in doubt about whether I'll throw my hat in that ring, seeing as how it's going to get booted right back out. Worth my time? Alas, probably not.

I'm not worthy! I'm not worthy! 🙄

Hon, they are not worthy of YOU.

my only problem with crockpot cooking is that I'm away from home for too long on some days to be able to use it. example, yesterday I left at 10am, didn't get home until 9:30pm. So everything would be burned up or dried out. I tried adding extra water once, but the meat still turned out dry.

I agree on this point. However, we have a huge arboretum right next to the hospital and Ann Arbor is one happenin' place. 😉

My first choice is SIU fortunately (or unfortunately?). It's my alma mater x 2 and my mom went to med school there so I kinda have a feel for the curriculum and how it works there.

whenever I think of their atmosphere, I think of rugby. Is it preppy there?

med center and undergrad are two completely different campuses.

ETA: actually, it's med center and "the Danforth Campus" now, according to all the signs. and it's not all undergrad. but you know what I mean.

for our wedding we got one of those black and steel ones that you can set the time on and when time is up it puts it on the keep warm mode. I like that - i used to burn or dry out dishes a lot with the other one

I have never been there but worked with a bunch of residents who went there for med school and who had nothing but FABULOUS things to say about SIU. They were awesomely trained too. Seriously, some of the best residents I have ever worked with.

I think I will go to UWash instead, so I can also confuse everyone when they ask me where I go

If I got a really good MCAT score I was thinking of applying to Wash U. My mom gave me a strange look and said "WHY?". Apparently to her I shouldn't even waste my time - I think she doesn't like the school or sthg.

Sweet. I know a handful of docs who graduated/did residencies there and they know their stuff. I hope they like me enough to let me know my stuff!

The med school is very stuffy/formal/hierarchical. IMHO.

To be balanced though, unquestionably great training. They have oodles of money and resources. Every year they put out awesome scientists. So they must be doing something right (I admit begrudingly 😉 ) The atmosphere's just not for me. But an awesome place.

perhaps he's thinking of polo 😀

well there's that, but I was thinking more along the lines of this nice Burberry rugby shirt I saw the other day 😉
