Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

So I had microbiology lab this afternoon. We did the gram staining technique on 4 samples. I am shocked to say that I totally loved that lab. Seriously. This stuff is freaking cool; apparently I'm pretty good at it too. I ended up with the best slides in the lab.

Maybe there's a pathologist in me!

Or maybe not. 😛

oh cool, i'm in microbiology lab this semester too. We did the Gram staining as well. except they timed us and gave us 5 minutes to prepare one slide 😱 given the staining times, that's barely enough time to do it.

ana--micro lab was my fave! i was always so afraid of getting sick--until the prof finally told us that the bacteria were diluted so much that you could probably drink them and not get sick.

Hmmm... Crystal Violet - 30 sec, rinse 10 sec -maybe-, Gram's Iodine 10 sec, rinse 10 sec, Ethyl Alcohol 20 sec, rinse 10 sec, Safranin 30 sec, rinse, blot. I could do that in under 5.... or does that 5 minutes mean you need to do the heat fixing too? To get mine to heat fix right (where I didn't over heat them) took about 5 minutes.

WTF would they give you a time limit anyway? It's not a damn race. 😡 Sorry about that.

we did crystal violet 1 min, lugol's (iodine) 1 min, EtOH 10 sec, safranin 2 min. so that didn't leave much time in between for the washes.

yeah i was always trying to pick up the hot slides--burned myself a bunch of times. i'm slow--what can i say

that AND the six skulls. I mean, fine- you thought you came by them legitimately, but seriously- why do you want six skulls sitting around the house?

I'm decorating for Halloween tonight! I think some skulls would really add to the atmosphere. :meanie:

Whats with all these Doctor or all the money in the world threads?
No need to be in interview mode people! You can pick what 99.9% of the population would pick.

Are there seriously people who would choose being a doctor over all the money in the world?? 😱

I actually wouldn't want to have TONS AND TONS of money because I am afraid it would change who I am (if that makes sense - like a megamillion lottery winner or something). But I want to make a comfortable living and not have to worry about money.

You had me all excited until that last sentence. 😡

Whatever, I'm gonna have you here for the next four years! I'll have my influence on you yet! 😉

If I won $300mm from a lottery, I don't think I'd even spend much. At least not the principal, only interest.

Honestly - if it wasn't for the whole never getting to see patients thing, I think I'd like Pathology - but you do have 4 years to work on me 😉

You should see me do H+E staining on frozens. 1 minute 30 seconds of eosin? Don't think so. 10 seconds should do. :meanie:

so ana--when can you expect all the acceptances to start rolling in? october?
Texas sucks (in this one particular area) because I can't even start hearing from state schools until the 15th of November. 🙁

So basically the only schools I'll be waiting to hear from on the 15th are Vandy and IU (I'll have interviewed there by then).

I'm still pissed Baylor hasn't gotten back to me. 🙁

I practically developed OCD on micro in path residency. Wash hands every 10 seconds. 😱

hey, Ana, you're going to teach beary to make some of your special "Hippie Brownies", right?
Totally - just gotta figure out how to hide it in my luggage since I can't put it in my hair gel anymore.

(+1 to anyone who gets that reference)

as long as you put them up Oct 1 or later, and take them down by Nov 2, it's all good 👍

So can I put my pumpkins up tonight? I am SO in a pumpkin and decorating mood right now.

Just no skulls until Oct 1?

I have to lug out my trash and am going to bring in my box of Halloween decorations which is currently in my garage.

I have a thing about putting up decorations too early. Perhaps b/c when I worked retail, Xmas stuff started coming in during September. Bitch, please.

you have several reasons to come here. I only have one to go there. I win. 😉 😀

1) you
2) megboo (is megboo close enough to come if I go to St. Louis?)
3) my best friend from college

Missing any? Those actually are very compelling reasons. Maybe I will come to St. Louis soon!
