Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

M3, would you recommend UGA? Are their rotations all at one hospital or is a lot of travel required?

UGA does not have a medical school. So I feel shafted in certain respects. The nearest one is Emory 1 hour away, or MCG 2 hours away in the opposite direction.

Oh ****, seriously? That sucks man. I figured if Mississippi had one, certainly the Bulldogs could afford one and would want one. I have to check this now, lol, I can't believe this.

$150k in residency???!!!!! Is that what DO residencies pay?

That is almost 4 times what we make in MD residencies!!

I know, it sounded strange to me, too...

I think we all dropped the ball on which residency to go to/want to go to.

Imagine how many computers with WoW installed you could afford with a salary like that. :wow:

no no no. They sign contracts while in residency for jobs when they finish residency. This is neurosurgery I'm sure other surgeons do it. So from your year say 4 until you're done, you get your regular resident salary plus say $100K a year as a "signing" bonus.

Yeah, but UGA has been pushing for its own medical school for years. The most recent proposal got....rejected. Seems like MCG wants to be Georgia's only state school.

So signing with hospitals or private practices? How long are these contracts for because that's a large signing bonus.

Dude, if UCF can get one, sure as **** UGA should easily get one. That's ridiculous. Now UCF will be the 4th public in-state MD school. Miami being the only private MD school. Nova and LECOM are the only DO, but they are expensive.

The new Ms need to be faster. They should have a faster 0-60 given the added horses and $$$.

Yea, but they just keep getting heavier and heavier. I still prefer the E39 M5, but I would love to have an original E30 M3.

My dream one though is a McLaren F1 GTR Longtail that was run by BMW Motorsport at LeMans. I can't get enough of the S70 V12 engine.

Agreed. I would want a lighter, sportier car instead of more luxury and "styling." I do like those 1990 box-ey M3 cars too 😎

Dang, now if those were released to the public....

As far as I know, all the M3 GTRs run by BMW Motorsport are in their hands. TWO F1 GTR Longtails are currently for sale that were ex-BMW Motorsport cars. 😀

Chassis 23R and 24R. 23R wore number 9 and is for sale here: http://www.ks-autohandel.de/Cardetails.aspx?carid=2&brandid=21

24R used to wear the same exact colors as the one I pictured a few posts up (except #43 instead of #42). That one (26R) is actually a copy of the real one paint-scheme wise. It never raced like that. Unfortunately, 24R was repainted, but it's for sale here: http://www.classicdriver.net/uk/fin...asp&lCarID=1714775&lCurrency=2&dealerid=10448

It's in the red/yellow EMI colors.

Ahhh, I see. Totally misunderstood that.

"Let's Dish" is the same thing. There are a million of them out there. I did it a couple of times. But, so much of it went to waste. Even with itassembled, I still screwed it up at home! 😛 Some of the dishes were fabulous though.

Hint...don't use a ziploc to store tequila in the freezer like they told me to for one dish....um..yeah...spilled everywhere.

Always double-bag liquids and put them in a cup or bowl in the freezer/fridge 😉

how did you get to be such a cooking guru? 🙂

My sweet mom (sometimes :meanie: ) made me some homemade soup that is TOTALLY a solid - vegetables, potatoes, chicken, etc. I have a whole bunch of individual sizes in my freezer. I am going to eat some of that now. 😀

While I finish watching Amazing Race! Exciting season so far!

I'm not sure about the hospitals/private practice. And you are right, the $1.2million is on the end of the spectrum (like rural bumblefart montana or something) but the contract is probably for like 5 years of service or something like that. I'll ask next time I see the student. Its not like there are tons of neurosurgeons around. They are high in demand as there are only 97 residencies with 823 positions a year (those numbers from the acgme - I know there is only one DO neurosurgery residency - well I think so at least). As well as its a 7 year residency NOT including fellowships they might want.

I can't find the mission statement for the school I am applying to anywhere on their website. 😕

They're all the same. I'm sure it is some variation of : To be the premiere medical center of the State of Whatever, providing excellent patient care, education, and leadership in research. There. 😀

hmmm.... signing contracts. sounds good. my plan was just to go parking lot to parking lot and give physicals under a tent for cash after med school. contracts sound like a really good idea. 😉

worst comes to worst............

Right, it is a very long duration. Getting $150k makes it less of a daunting time imo. Radiology, just diagnostic, is like 5 years. Add 1 or 2 years for fellowship, which I think is pretty much the norm nowadays. I'd do MRI like my friend did if I went down the rad path.

Yum - can you send your mom my way please??? 😀

 This works in my favor I think since the desire of my heart is to spend the rest of my life in Nebraska or South Dakota or something. 😍

yeah, i've heard of some sweet deals for signing to go to say rural georgia for example. from signing bonuses to paying off your med school debt. sounds great but i dont know if thats for me.
