A few ground rules. Everything you post must be RANDOM and more importantly, only peripherally related to the MCAT. See my example post below. I now await Beary's shirtless pic of Carl Edwards. C'mon Beary, A-man is dying to see it. 😀

This is Ana's example:

My, factually, better examples 😀 :

And one final thing. GO GATORS! GO AGGIES! My parents are A&M alum...

the sphygmomanometer is pumped up to a pressure that cuts off blood flow through the brachial artery. at that point the stethoscope is placed in the antecubital fossa (bend in the middle of your arm opposite the elbow) but you dont hear anything since the blood flow has been cut off. usually we pump up to like 200-220 to make sure the flow is stopped. from there we slowly release the pressure through the valve on the device (3-5 mmHg/sec) and the moment we hear the turbulent blood flow from all the blood thats been backed up we look at the pressure gauge and record that as the systolic BP. those sounds are called korotkoff sounds. then we keep releasing the pressure until we cant hear the sound anymore because the blood flow has gone from turbulent to laminar (nice and smooth), the moment we cant hear it anymore we look at the gauge and thats the diastolic BP. nice and simple.

Hi peeps....TypeA here. At beary's now (obviously). Congrats Fe on Penn State! I'm sure it is the first of MANY.

I shadowed a Pathology HO today. AWESOME! Best Path HO EVAR!!!! Ooh...and got to see a really interesting presentation re: esophageal perforation. So cool. Sorry we are not going to see you tomorrow night Nik. 🙁 Maybe next time??

Ok peeps...gonna head out for now. Later gators. 😀

Don't have toooooooooo much fun 😉 Ok - just don't do anything I wouldn't do!!!!!

ok - just don't get arrested!

ok - at least give someone you trust your credit card for posting bail.

very good explanation! and i knew almost all of that already! does that mean i'm ready to be a doctor? 😛

Hmm...some of it is, yes. Some of it looks like it will be sent in online. I haven't pressed the submit button yet so I'm not completely sure. 😛

Do MD/PhD have different applications or same one, but they tack on more?
it depends on the school...but USF actually doesn't let you apply MD/PhD right away. You have to be admitted to the MD program, and then by special application to the Dean, you can try for the MD/PhD program.

So far the best thing about medical school is... well, yeah, it's the learning. But the SECOND best thing is the free food. Seriously. Five free meals this week. Not too shabby!

That is the same reason I enjoy working in a Physican's office as a medical assistant . . . free drug rep lunches every day🙂.

Have you had a chance to experience the city?! 🙂
Not much at all yet, so far. And I actually don't expect that to change until after this quarter. My school front-loads the curriculum so that your first 10 weeks are the hardest, and then everything goes downhill from there (first year, at least). So I'm looking forward to getting out more from January through September next year. 🙂

As of right now I'm feeling guilty for taking time off to post on SDN. 🙂 🙂 🙂

No drug rep food, so far. I've had meals from AMWA, AMSA, the AMA, my society (kind of like the Harry Potter houses), and various other school groups, though. 🙂

Last time I was in Chicago was exactly a year ago this month (almost to the day). It was AWESOME. The weather, the restaurants, the museums, the tours, etc. Not sure how the weather is in January, but I'm sure a lot colder. lol 🙂

I can't wait to explore more. 🙂

 Just turned in my first secondary--someplace someplace! Just need to send in a picture and have my LORs sent from UF. 🙂

 Your publicist is so proud.

the fray "how to save a life" made into a music video with scenes from "Scrubs" 😀

yeah, sacred heart hospital is definitely moving up on my match list.

It higher than Seattle Grace? 😉

 Harry Potter houses. People joke about med school being like high school all over again, but it sounds more like grade school.

Oh, GA's on. So *that's* where everyone is. 🙂

Ashamed to admit it, but that's where I was. I think the rest of the Randomites are partying in A^2 without us. 🙁

Durden, you were watching GA? I turned it on and heard about $8mm islands and immediately changed channels. n00bs, I know of a lot more for less. 🙄 (seriously)

I'm watching the STL-NYM game. I figured you were watching that. :luck: jlw

i'm here! i just got back from skating.

What kind of skating do you do? I was thinking I should find some womens' ice hockey while I'm in the frozen north, but didn't know whether there are places for beginners to pick it up.

Some friends and I take a shot everytime the buzzword from Meredith's intro voiceover is mentioned. How could I pass that up along with the now single Addison?

But yes, that show is total trash. I did feel like a genius though when I was able to explain to them what a M&M conference was.

Now back to more masculine TV.

I 😍 you!! 😀

keep saying that and maybe you'll get some Xanax cookies.

Where oh where is the penguin?????

My hubby's watching the Cardinals for you!

I got your IM... tried to call but got your VM.

look, you're still in trouble for not including me on your list last night. and you're going to need me on this next rotation, so you'd better shape up right now.

Who are the mets? Do you mean pond scum?

:meanie:

I was at a meeting at the hospital tonight from 6-8:30pm.. so I had it on in the car on the way home and turned on the TV just in time to watch Rolen get robbed of his HR. 🙁 😡

btw, T- we did scheduling tonight, and I avoided signing up for the 3rd, so hopefully that'll work for you!

I miss being with my friend in WI this year. 🙁 For the past two years, we've played playoff drinking games. 🙁

Cards get a hit? take a drink
A HR? take 3
Cameras show Albert's really hot tush? take a drink :meanie:

Three of us went through three bottles of wine within 6 innings last year. :hardy:

weren't you saying that you hate baseball ?

I dislike the majority of it and I have never watched a regular season game in my life. I have seen an entire game a few times in the playoffs. Marlins...Bo Sox...White Sox...now probably Tigers. Not hard for me to dislike any of those teams. I support FL teams, Chicago is my favorite city, that dude went to my high school (caveman guy), and Pudge is cool. Other than game 7s and non-WS, boring. Nothing is really on the line imo.

I have found ways to enjoy watching curling...lol. So MLB is possible. Playing baseball is fun, though.

Not to divert the conversation away from Albert's hot tush, but is T's interview Nov 3rd? I ask because mine just got scheduled for the 2nd.

hahahahaha!!!!!!! his is the 2nd and the 3rd... PAR-TAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! :hardy:

ETA: everyone please note that Durden acknowledged Albert has a hot tush 😀

Durden, if you want man ass, start watching this season of nip/tuck. Apparently that's what the show has become. I'm giving up on the writers.

Also if you want to see Rosie O'Donnell getting plowed. 👍
