A few ground rules. Everything you post must be RANDOM and more importantly, only peripherally related to the MCAT. See my example post below. I now await Beary's shirtless pic of Carl Edwards. C'mon Beary, A-man is dying to see it. 😀

This is Ana's example:

My, factually, better examples 😀 :

LOL granted I'm not a med student so I'm not very familiar with all the organs - but I actually think that placenta is pretty cool! (even if it is really nasty looking) It's the only organ meant to be thrown away (or send to beary) when you are done with it. :meanie:

It is pretty cool, I will grudgingly admit. I LOVE that steel grey color.

One day you're going to have one of those flying out of you. Maybe even a bunch! The more the merrier!

Oh believe me, they don't "fly" out.

*med student's arms cramp from pulling on the damn thing for almost half an hour*

That was sort of funny image though. I was just picturing a mother happily holding her new baby with placentas flying out of her across the room.

Ouch!!! That has got to hurt. A lot?

The mom or the med student? 😉

I think my muscles cramp easily. But yes, through all the time retracting, etc., pulling on a placenta is the one time I had to ask my resident to take over for me because I literally couldn't maintain the traction anymore. I think that was an unusually difficult placenta. 😳 Also, I rushed in and didn't have time to get sitting in a comfortable position so I was at a weird angle and stuff.

I was talking about the mother. I dont' think I'd have any problems with it, but I wouldn't want to do it band-aid style if it really hurt the lady.

Hmm... I am sure oxeye can answer this one better. My impression just from watching was that delivering the placenta did not seem to be too painful (maybe just compared to the baby, I don't know).

A-man, how long did it take for you to get complete at someplace someplace. Did they e-mail you?

once my letters were sent and they received my picture it was pretty quick. yeah, they send you an email to let you know that your file is now complete.

will, have you seen my screen name linked to (real name of someplace someplace) on sdn recently? maybe the florida applicants thread? i just got a PM from someone asking me about the school specifically and knowing how i was their point person for SDN. i dont use this screen name for that anymore (i use another one) so i would really like to delete that info off the site immediately if you've seen it.

no, it wasnt painful at all from my experience with deliveries either, beary. it just slides out basically with gentle tugging and waiting.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. I just know that you're Arsenic and your real name through PM and the school you go to. I don't go much in the pre-allo forum. I have been in the FL thread, but just to see what's up.

Thanks for the info on their process time!

Nope - placenta delivery doesn't hurt at all. Well, unless that have to reach in and grab a piece that didn't come out with the big placenta. 😉

you couldnt do it band-aid style, you could break the cord and then have to remove the placenta manually. ie, sticking your hand in a scooping it out. you just get it out by tugging gently and waiting, tugging gently and waiting.
