how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

No, I don't think they do auto invites. They are a state school but it's not by any means impossible to get in OOS because the preference isn't that high. Most in staters will take Pitt over PSU if given the chance.

PSU seems like a great school and Hershey is an awesome medical center. The only major downer is the fact that in Hershey it's you, the cows, and the choc. factory....that's pretty much it.

what is your top choice ? Pitt ?

Pitt wasn't my top choice, but I didn't have a choice with them either (I got auto rejected due to my mcat)

I have a top choice but I would rather keep it a mystery until I get into it (so no, its not PSU, although I loved the school and will be happy going there) 😉

Yay for getting out of A&P Lab and NOT smelling like dead cat for once. We did a sheep's brain today and it was pretty bad ass.

I'm in A&P lab and we finished with the cats about 4 or 5 weeks ago. But we are doing Sheep brains this week.

We used the last 3 or 4 weeks to do tissue slides and microscope activities that we skipped before.

I don't think you can generalize that it was due to your MCAT because Scentimint had a similar score to yours and got an interview invite there. Maybe you didn't have a lot of research or other factors in your profile were not what they were looking for.

We did the slides first then the cat and now the sheep's brain. So funny - my TA can't pronounce the structures. I was trying so hard not to crack up as he was quizing me. He thought I didn't study because it took me so long to answer; really I was just trying to decipher his accent.

I think I know where it is from your previous posts but I'll keep my mouth shut. However I'm going to PM you.

I think S&M applied MD/PhD, in which case they look beyond MCAT (research heavily)

I am 99% positive that my MCAT score played the key role in my rejection there, especially since they send out auto invites based on scores.

LOL There's a TA teaching right now, one of the other labs (not mine) who's never even taken Anatomy. THat's sad.

does GPA not influence that invite at all ? 😱 maybe I have a chance

I got my free Cold Stone Ice Cream birthday coupon!!!!!!

last time I was at coldstone I decided that the large size (gotta have it?) wasn't enough for me of the cheesecake fantasy... so I bought a gallon and took it home... it was gone that night 👍 :barf:

i did apply md/phd there, though my interview invite was only for the MD program. i think my invite had a lot to do with their familiarity with my research and my recommenders...i did research at UPMC for three summers, and two of my recommenders were pitt school of medicine faculty. it definitely wasn't an auto-invite though...i think i'm lucky that it wasn't an auto-rejection.

it's all a crapshoot anyway...i haven't had any interview offers elsewhere yet. i'm still keeping my fingers crossed though.

s&m! its still very early in the process, doctor. 😀

*keeps fingers crossed for someplace someplace* 😍

hola🙂 super crappy day or only slightly crappy day?

oh.... i got changed to psych ER for my last 3 weeks! 😍 😍 😍 😍 😍

the morning was crappier than usual but my skin is getting thicker by the day, it just rolled right off of me. the guy picks on everyone for anything so i dont take it personally anymore. got my work done and out by 315 though so... overall, very good day.

yeah--i had a feeling he was being really nasty with you guys. wow--please don't take it personally--i know that's easier said than done though. i'm so glad you got switched--and you get to wear scrubs? woo-hoo!!👍 👍

Oh ok, then I stand corrected. They must do a combo of auto-invite and looking, because I think our numbers are similar, but you have much more research experience than me. It makes me feel better to know that they at least LOOKED at my application before rejecting me!

Ok, my Chem teacher is officially um...well...not a good teacher and really kinda crappy too. Who the heck throws combustion at a class in the last 5 minutes of the last class before a major exam knowing it is not in the book? You should have seen everyone's face. 😱 Sooo...I approached her and respectfully asked that she reconsider including it on the exam. We kind of had a disagreement during which I was ridiculously calm and respectful. (I am not sure what got into me.) She said "this is not complicated"...I said "perhaps not, but introducing it during the last 5 minutes of class and holding us accountable without anything to study (on top of everything else) threw it into the complicated category. She said "This is college." To which I responded "I know, this is my second time around, but even so..."

She put her foot down and I lost (and my classmates with me). But she shut up. I can't wait for this semester to be over. No wonder she has a 1.4 quality level on RateMyProfessor. UGHHHHHHH! 😡
