how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

I am FURIOUS. I have to spend my day finding out about the %*^&$*$& TSA and their stupid rules. My precious, adorable, sweet little THREE YEAR OLD niece was flying back from Cincy to Lincoln yesterday. Cincy has these new air puffers. Totally understandably so, my niece didn't want to go inside it because it was scary. The TSA FORCED her to go in there, shut her in there, and then the thing malfunctioned and she was stuck in there. When they finally got her out, they gave her a really rough pat down and touched her in "sensitive" areas (which they are just teaching her about not letting people touch you there!) Apparently she is totally traumatized. Why would you make a THREE YEAR OLD go in one of those air puffer things by herself. 😡 I don't think she's much of a terrorist threat. Anyway I am really mad and am going to look into how to complain to the TSA.

I have to deal with the TSA a bit since I always have to get pat downs with my pacemaker (can't go through the metal detectors and would set it off anyway). I have found them to be professional. But they just need to understand that airports, flying is scary for a 3 year old and you can't just take them away from their mom and treat them so rough. 😡
that's awful!!! definitely complain about it! i can't believe they would do that!

beary--they just completely crossed the line. she is way too young to even understand what was going on--and the patdown....that is infuriating. i'm sorry she had to go through that🙁 let's just say--if that happened to my lil sis i would have flipped

Well, I ordered the Wii. The plan is to sell it but we'll see if that happens. 😉

I've played the sports games on it beary - they're really fun!

And UGH about your poor niece!!!! I'm just imagining if that had happened to my daughter and I would be completely LIVID!!!!! I'd raise hell for sure.

Well....I wouldn't go that far...I mean there is this person named beary up there... 😉

 Thanks T! I'm going to go ninja on the admissions people when I get back. You don't want to mess with a pathologist. 😉

It's the Michigan Indifference!

Woohoo!!! Don't get too carried away - apparently a few people have broken hands, wrists, etc. with too vigorous golf swings, pitches, etc.

Hey oxeye - congrats on getting to buy one too!! I just looked at Amazon and there were 28:1 odds on getting one!

You'll have to tell me all about it before I get one and then stand in my living room and flail my arms at my TV.

LOL Beary - I've heard about the controllers being thrown and breaking the television too. 😉

I think I need a PS2 (pretty sure I'm getting that for christmas!) - I can play Dance Dance Revolution. I'll have fun and exercise at the same time. 🙂

Haha and when I signed up to be in the drawing for the Wii I told my husband that if I was selected to buy one that it must be a sign. I really don't think it's going to be sold on ebay.

I haven't seen that but have seen some pictures of it. Think it would gross me out.
I saw it in Houston without taking any anatomy. I think it's going to be way cooler this time because I've at least had some basic anatomy.

The first time I went with my best friend because it was some meet and greet thing for the Oil Industry in Houston (awesome food, free booze). And she kept asking me what stuff was. I just kept looking at her and going, "Um a muscle? Say it with me now 'PRE-med, PRE-med.'"

i soooooooooo want a ps3, damn overpriced console

beary- how long does it take for the body to start going into rigor mortis?
best thing about that is it can vary depending on the condition of the body. Well actually that isn't a good thing never mind. I do know the little factoid that the body temp drops 1 temp per hour depending on surrounding temp. 😉

Beary tell us all about it!

So since Kaplan fell through, I'm trying to figure out what to do with my spring... would I be nuts to take this:

Philosophy of Eastern Thought, Special Topics in Classical Literature, Sociology of Health and Advanced Biochemistry... it's 12 hrs.

OH yeah and the biochem would be graduate level. 😳

wow guys if you have a few minutes check this out:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6080598893257177108&q=%22Making+of+a+Doctor"

i saw it yesterday on another section of SDN and it is sooooooooooo spot on. it s like 50 minutes but even within the first 15 you'll get a real sense of what its like to be a med student. ie, the real stresses and feelings of insecurity.

What a great day so far. Got flat out rejected by my alma mater. Took 6 weeks to the day after I was complete. Didn't even get a pre-interview hold, awesome! Also got a post-interview hold til April from my in-state rival (they played someplace someplace at the beginning of the football season. I rather not say which schools). Still haven't heard back from the other schools and I think my cat got his leg broke (I'm serious). Just awesome.

Yeah, I don't know what's up with my alma mater. They rejected my brother a couple years ago for undergrad. He had above average stats for them for undergrad. They also rejected two of my friends who applied this year for dental school (both got into Tufts and U Maryland already, Columbia interview coming up). Again, had well above average stats to the past year's dental students. I hear it's random for them. People getting in with 25s and others getting rejected with 35s. Oh well. I guess whenever I donate to them, I will have to write "funds can be used for anything but the COM." 😀 😀 😀

Nothing from someplace someplace. Still my top choice! 🙂

as much as i hate that place i'm sorry you didnt get your shot to go to med school there. thats alright though, hopefully someplace someplace will steal you away now. 😀

I took 12 hours of fun and easy stuff my last semester in college. I would use it as an opportunity to explore stuff you will never get to do again (like, I love art history so took some of that).

I don't know about the biochem. Are you thinking of preparation for med school? It probably won't help you that much, and graduate school classes have a VERY different emphasis than medical school classes. That could be useful and fun for you too, but don't work too hard! 🙂

as always, i agree with our PGY1. anastasis for the love of god do not take advanced biochemistry. you will learn all you will need to learn once med school begins, dont be a psycho or i'll tell penguin to hit you with that B52 of benadryl, 5 mg of haloperidol and 2 mg of ativan.

My grad school mentor's wife died. (I really respect this man and he had a tremendous impact on my life). I have been sitting here for an hour trying to write a condolence letter and all I have so far is "Dear ," . 🙁

Oh come on! I don't think it would be THAT bad 😉 Section is closed anyway apparently... but the lib arts classes just sound like so much fun! Taking out another semester of student loans is just a drop in the bucket right? 😉

Edit: In all honesty, the schedule isn't working out and I don't really have the money. Oh well 🙁 my last chance to take a philosophy course.

I'm taking a logic course and intro philosophy next semester, too... along with a personal finance class. Time to round myself out, I guess. I'm taking classes mostly so I don't have to start paying off loans though

My dad's cousin died this morning. He was 88, and the closest thing we had to a grandfather on that side. He'd been ill for a really long time ('99 at least), but this is the last remaining relative on that side of the family. Funeral will be next week. He's a WWII vet, so it's being arranged for him to have as many military honors as he is eligible for (Taps on bugle, color guard, gun salute, etc).

Sad penguin. 🙁
