how's your studying going guys? are you freaking out? burned out?

this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

MollyMalone said:
It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME TO POST HERE, you're welcome to jump in at anytime. Here's the final tally from part 7:

My dad's cousin died this morning. He was 88, and the closest thing we had to a grandfather on that side. He'd been ill for a really long time ('99 at least), but this is the last remaining relative on that side of the family. Funeral will be next week. He's a WWII vet, so it's being arranged for him to have as many military honors as he is eligible for (Taps on bugle, color guard, gun salute, etc).

Sad penguin. 🙁

Very sorry jlw. 🙁

ana i have a minor in sociology and i took quite a few sociology healthcare courses--they are definitely really interesting. and not too hard, at least in my experience.
I really really want to take the Eastern Thought class - may enroll just for the hell of it - or at least unofficially audit it.

You hate Dunkin Donuts???!!!! What???!!! *passes out*

That is the worst thing about the midwest. No Dunkin Donuts. There is one like 20 min away from my folks house and I drive there almost every day when I'm home. 😳

I LIVED on that when I was in Boston and Montreal.

Hahahahaha we have a Dunkin Donuts on virtually every street. There's one right by my house too. We used to have equally as many Krispy Kremes in the area until they closed down.

Congrats on the WashU to both you and Mr. Tee. Can't believe I missed it before when he posted it. Both of you have a great break!!!!

A-man,
Glad you are having a great break.

Beary, S&M, Nikki, Supernova, Ana,Q, Brett, Mushy, JLW, Megboo, Will, and everyone else have a great break!!!!!!!!!!

BTW: Beary, I'd get Dell not HP and not Sony. Sony would be good if it were a laptop but I don't think I'd trust their desktops as much. But that's just me. I'd do my research into both companies and warranties and what not. On the other hand, if you do get a Sony it would allow you to not have to deal with online stores and be able to take your computer into an actual store if it needs repairing. But if you are like me and have people with connection to IT people then that doesn't matter.

Hey guys - as if I wasn't excited enough, I just got the nicest email back from the assistant dean of admissions at Houston. Really really nice and friendly. She answered my question then she said she noticed my dad was optho and that's what she is. She told me if I was interested in that too to come by her office and we'd talk about what I needed to do to get a residency. Just so insanely nice!!

Made me really happy with my choice 😀

ah... nova rocks.. such a geek 😳

I knew there was someone I was forgetting when I said that I hope everyone has a great break. Have a great break and happy holidays lilithny.

BTW I like nova too. They got some pretty interesting things on there. I don't think its geeky at all.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

beary--they just completely crossed the line. she is way too young to even understand what was going on--and the patdown....that is infuriating. i'm sorry she had to go through that🙁 let's just say--if that happened to my lil sis i would have flipped

I agree. I would so sue the TSA in a heartbeat if I could for doing something like that. That's just not right to do to a child.

right back at cha, guju!! 😎 😀

What a great day so far. Got flat out rejected by my alma mater. Took 6 weeks to the day after I was complete. Didn't even get a pre-interview hold, awesome! Also got a post-interview hold til April from my in-state rival (they played someplace someplace at the beginning of the football season. I rather not say which schools). Still haven't heard back from the other schools and I think my cat got his leg broke (I'm serious). Just awesome.

I'm jealous... I haven't had so much good news in a while 🙁

thanks for the condolences and hugs, guys. I really appreciate it. I was going home Thurs through next Fri anyway, so I'll just stick to the original plan. I'm glad I'll be around to help my brother out. (he's been the power of attorney for the last 6 years.)

Wow, really sorry to hear about all this bad news. Holidays seem to be getting off to a rocky start with the Randomites. 🙁

wow guys if you have a few minutes check this out:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6080598893257177108&q="Making+of+a+Doctor"

i saw it yesterday on another section of SDN and it is sooooooooooo spot on. it s like 50 minutes but even within the first 15 you'll get a real sense of what its like to be a med student. ie, the real stresses and feelings of insecurity.

I just watched the video in full and have to say its pretty good. I was going to stop after the first 15 and then I was too hooked and wanted to see what happened with those particular physicians so I didn't stop it and am glad I didn't. That's a pretty good video and pictorial description of the Would you do it over thread's descriptions. Puts things into perspective. I'd read about it on SDN somewhere but thouht I'd have to go to USF to find it. Glad it was online cuz its more convenient to watch that online.

FOR THE LOVE OF CHEESE DO NOT GET A DELL.

I went through 4 Dell laptops with LIGHT use. Darn things just kept freaking out and dying. Terrible. Horrible. Horrible. I repeat... DO NOT GET A DELL. 👎

I just read your post. I'm sorry jlw - I know he was sick earlier this week. GL with the funeral and best wishes to your family. 🙁

I agree ... i'm addicted to it.

it won't open for me. 👎
That's b/c your on a pda 😛

Anyone else a little worried about how both of the physicians they showed on that video who got married during medical school/residency were divorced by the end of it? 🙁
Most of them get married during med school and maybe they were SAHM :meanie: 😉 I think with work week restrictions things have improved for that ... but don't worry. I feel that if the relationship is established well before med school, you don't have an issue. I knwo many successful relationships through med school, especially if they were married in the years before med school 😀 I noticed that the one guy didn't have a wedding rign on and I was like, you've got to be kidding me! And low and behold, he was divorced as well.

Dude the chick doesn't have her wedding ring on either now!
LOL hey I don't wear my wedding ring! I gained too much weight when I was pregnant, didn't lose it all, and am too stubborn to get it resized because I WILL lose that weight!

Hubby doesn't wear his either - he would have to take it off when he plays the piano and was constantly leaving it weird places. After the third time losing it and then finding it I told him I didn't care if he wore it or not.

You're probably right about it good to have the relationship established Mush. Though it also looked okay for that one guy with the woman who was more sympathetic towards and used to the long hours because she grew up in a medical family. The other two first wives they showed just complained about the long hours and how hard it was.

I think the one doctor summed it up right that if one is a particularly needy person then being married to a doctor won't work. You'll notice the psych guy's new woman had her own career. I can really relate to that - my time with Joe is usually on the weekend where we have one day to ourselves. We may be doing different things in the house, but we're home together. Otherwise we have our own schedules and agendas. It'd be different if we had kids, though.

I have had similar experiences. I actually went to Best Buy with my dad last night and he bought an HP desktop! It seems really nice. Haven't hooked it up yet but hopefully it will work out well for them.

I got distracted looking all the fancy little laptops. 😍

I'll have to watch it. I was overwhelmed by the 50 min - would have to work on my attention span. 😳

PWH and I always wear ours. It feels so weird not to! We will ask each other every once in awhile.. "Are you married today?"...which simply means "Do you have your ring on?" Usually, it is while we are dressed down (ie. sweats) and are off to Home Depot after a long day. Neither one of us wear them at home (most of the time). 99% of the time I wear AT LEAST a band. Most of the time, I wear my diamond. When I was working in news, I used to wear just a simple band that I bought (not my wedding band) because the other rings were so cumbersome for me. But, I changed back after I found out that several people thought I was gay as a result of it (not that there is anything wrong with that 🙂 ). Go figure. 🙄 Don't get me wrong, I am just not gay, if I were that would be fine. Occasionally, I wear that band, but typically not.

I love my Toshiba. And...well...as you know, PWH is having an ongoing affair with his. The only problems I have had have been software issues. No problems with the hardware. I used to have one of those 12" iBooks....too small. In 5 years, I am going to be the only one walking around with my full sized laptop.

My husband can't wear his ring at work lest his finger get caught and ripped off. But he wears it when we are out in public. I wear mine unless I know I'm going to be doing something yucky.

Ring v Finger.....yeah, the finger wins out. 😉

LOL it's funny watching them try to draw blood from each other!

Double LOL for the 80's hair and clothes!

its so spot on its crazy, seriously that could have been video of my class learning how to draw blood. its freaky how similar the experiences are. 😱

Double LOL for the 80's hair and clothes!

Being a glasses wearer, I took notice of the change in eyewear. Remember those big, round ones that everyone thought made them look smart? Elliott was the one sporting those. By the end, he was wearing a smaller version.
