this is our stress relief thread....or our group anxiety thread, whatever..... 😀

for those of you that have no idea what the mcat random threads are about, check out molly's explanation:

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

The way I look at it, I'm actually ahead of the game by remembering this far in advance. On July 31, I thought "Wow, I bet I have to do that soon since class starts in 2 weeks..." and saw that I had until Aug 1 to pay it. So I had to rearrange my schedule to drive up to school and go to the cashier's office. We get charged an extra 3% to pay by credit card (seriously- stoopid state school.... 😡 ), and the money is due 1/1... but that's a holiday... so I'm thinking if I mail it in Fri, it should get there by 1/2... which should count. I hope.

our recitations were only made bearable by the fact that we had a kick-ass TA for Gen Chem II. LOVED her. we also had them in Gen Bio I/II, which although interesting, were extremely time-consuming and labor-intensive given the amount of credit we were getting for them.

for our population genetics section, we had to go trouping through one of the city's oldest and biggest cemeteries for 2 hours on a Sunday to find population cohorts to crunch the numbers and make the graphs. for ecology, we had to go to a wildlife reserve one Sunday, and the botanical gardens on another Sunday. animal behavior involved multiple trips to the zoo (which is free thank god) to observe. interesting stuff, but this was a night class where everyone was working during the days/weekends. scheduling this crap was a PITA. however, I'm now an expert on the mating habits of ring-tailed lemurs.

what I like about my post-bacc school:
I've had some really great professors
I've had a couple of really cool TAs
I've made 2 or 3 decent friends throughout my 2-year tenure so far

what I dislike:
-the location (not the best neighborhood, coupled by really poor lighting on campus, leading to some fear when leaving night classes)
-the majority of my classmates (both trad and non-trad- sometimes they're even MORE obnoxious b/c they think they know more than the profs)
-the fact that my physics text was published long enough ago that I could have used it in HS and for me that's saying a LOT
-that even though I pay through the nose for parking, they don't attempt to salt or plow the top level of the student garages, effectively removing about 1/3 of available student parking until it melts, which took over a week for this most recent storm (BIG sore spot for me)
-that 3% thing mentioned above
-no pride in their facilities, at least in the science buildings. The wall art are art exhibit posters which date back as far as 1967.

I could go on.
