greetings randomites. off to mcat study for the next 12 hrs. Hope you guys are staying out of trouble. oxeye, give yourself a few days for it to lighten. If you want ... I found this advice here helpful (scroll down a bit)
I don't recommend using just Dawn detergent on your hair to fade the color, the chemicals in it will ruin your hair. Add a few drops of dish detergent to your shampoo before you use it on your hair. The detergent will dry out your hair like crazy. After you use a mixture of shampoo and liquid dish detergent to lift the color. Please apply a deep conditioning treatment on your hair for 15 to 20 minutes and use a plastic cap to protect your hair. The deep conditioning treatment will restore moisture balance to dry or damaged hair.

I just saw the CNN feed about the VA Tech shootings. 🙁 how horrible. I don't think anyone on this thread is near there, right? here's hoping not. but to any lurking SDNers from there- so sorry. I can't imagine.

Had fun with my Random peeps this weekend! Y'all are welcome back any time! Maybe there'll be nicer weather next time you're in town. If you noticed, yesterday was gorgeous... one day too late. 🙂

Thanks for the hair tip Mush. I've been resisting the urge to just run out and buy a color a few shades lighter than I want and trying that because I'm afraid it might make things worse. It's just sooooo dark.

We had the water damage guys come out today. OUr house has 10 big giant LOUD fans that need to run for the next three days to dry stuff out. There is some sheetrock that needs to be replaced, carpet pad, fun stuff. It's definitely going to cost more than our deductible.

Good news, though - we might be able to get our builder to pay for most, if not all, of the cost. They added a drip pan in our laundry room to go under the washing machine - to prevent damage like this when a washer leaks. The guys here today told us it was installed VERY poorly and if it had been installed correctly we wouldn't have had any damage. So we'll see where that goes.

Yeah I'd suggest trying this. Someone mentioned they used straight dawn and it got the color out but massive dried out their hair. If you don't plan on ruining your hair or seeing a professional, I'd just suck it up for a couple of days. I'm sure it looks fine. Change can be good 😉


And 😱 to the marker! Kids, I tell ya. We had our dogs spill paint all over our carpet 2 days ago from a paper towel in our trashcan. Luckily we got it out! SOrry to hear about the washer troubles. If its more than the deductible that is a good thing (hence why there are deductibles!). 🙁

well guys, i got a rather harsh post-interview rejection from UIC-Chicago MD/PhD. The school was one of my top choices, and the location would have been perfect. Oh well. 🙁

If one of my four waitlists doesn't pan out, I may be looking for something else to do next year. I'm trying to stay optimistic though...there's still plenty of time for waitlist movement!

PB&J,

Didn't you get into UIUC scholars????????????? I thought you got into one MD/PhD program?? Also can't some of the straight MD programs work in such a way that after first year you can ask to add on a joint program?? USF has this thing where they allow you to do such. Won't RWJ let you do that??????

yea it was pretty bad this morning. Not the weather but the commute.
Just to put it in perspective, a usual 35-40 minute train ride into the city took an hour and a half 😡

What kind of psycho monster would do this?? I wonder what their motive was for doing it. Sad thing is that unless we've got some sort of letter or video from him there's no way of knowing why he did it. I don't think it was random like my friend who told me about it was suggesting. I think there's something that we don't know. Maybe he was in that class and lived in that dorm. Or maybe someone did something and he went psycho like that case with Columbine. And I thought Columbine was bad. This is just so sad. How people could be so deranged I often wonder.

That happened to me last Tuesday or the Tuesday before. I had an hour break from work and didn't even get 20 min. off because it took me 45 min. to get home. I was so pissed. I live like a 5-10 min. distance from campus so for it take 45 min. was just bad.

At the time Canuck posted, officials said 21 were dead. Only a couple hours ago did they say 33 were dead (including the shooter).

As far as the motives, it's being said the shooter found out his girlfriend cheated on him. Went to her dorm, killed her and the RA in charge of that hall (RA apparently tried to stop him from getting in the room). Then went after the guy she cheated with. Of course it's not completely confirmed yet. The shooter shot his face when he died and didn't carry ID or a cell phone so it's hard for them to determine who it is.

what happened today really made is sick to my stomach. I still can't believe what I read online.

Well, when I say 4 waitlists...it breaks down like this:

At Pitt I'm waitlisted for the MD program
At UMDNJ-robert wood johnson, I was accepted to the MD program but waitlisted for MD/PhD
At UAB, I'm waitlisted for the MD/PhD program
At UIUC, I got into the MD program and the med scholars program, but I haven't yet been considered for admission for the grad school b/c they need my GRE score (i'm taking it this week). So I can't take that as guaranteed until I see how I do on the GRE and what they decide on my application.

Long commutes suck. The worst part of it all was that there was a lot of sitting still going on because of flooding. Totally sucks

so the worst case scenario is that you'll just be an MD? Not an md/phd?

Well, I don't know PB&J's situation and her factors on deciding to go the PhD route, but cost could be one of them. MD/PhD programs cover your tuition costs and provide you a stipend to live on. MD programs don't do that unless you have a scholarship, which is hard to come by. Although I know she's not doing it for that reason alone. 🙂 I think she currently works in a research lab so it's an area of interest for her I think. 🙂

I wonder if medical schools "blacklist" you if you decline an MD acceptance to reapply MD/PhD though.

Nah and truthfully I don't think they blacklist you if you turn down an acceptance because you want to go somewhere else. I think people on SDN are just overly paranoid. I know of at least one person who had an acceptance in one of the Dakotas and turned it down because they wanted to stay in Fl. They ended up getting not one but 2 interviews if not more their second time applying after improving on their app. I know of 2 interviews of which one was at their top choice but maybe even more. I don't think its as bad as people make it out to be.

Well good luck. Focus on the GRE so that way you'll have one sure deal. I'm sure it will work out. I've heard GRE isn't as hard as the MCAT.

Yeah it is sad that people could do these kind of things!!! The last time something happened that was this tragic was when Columbine happened. It makes you wonder about people. Its just so sad when people lose it this badly and innocent lives are taken. And even if his girlfriend cheated, couldn't and he was sad he should have gotten counseling or something. its just so sad to see how people lose it at the expense of innocent people.

Don't forget the Amish shootings back in October. I think that was worse. Peaceful people and then someone with a gun comes in and tries to rape the girls.

did you all see the student on CNN who was actually in the classroom and played dead to somehow avoid being shot? her story was absolutely horrifying. i can't comprehend how she was even able to function after that and give an interview

Do you have a link?? I'd like to see it. Oh and I didn't know about the Amish shootings thing. Or at least don't remember hearing about it to the person that mentioned that.

I know us randomites talked about it since Nikki (claims 😀) to live in Amish country. But this Amish town was in Pennsylvania, not Ohio.

I saw the girl who played dead. Some other guy said he jumped out of his 2nd story window. 15 of his classmates in total did it and one broke their leg. About 5 stayed behind because they didn't want to jump. Some of them were shot, but the guy didn't know if they were dead. Pretty ****ed up **** right there.
