Meg, MS(-1) hehe, mdapps#6805. That was the closest thing to a "rank" and "serial number" I could come up with on this lovely sunday evening.

Wy am I here? I honestly don't know, I just know that talking just about MCAT 24-7 is a little boring, so I like to have some non-MCAT moments.
:laugh::laugh:
Good luck with your retake. :luck:

BTW, do you have ties to AL at all? Because I think otherwise you're probably wasting your money applying to UAB and USA; they take very few OOS students, and you also have to have stats that are better than their averages. I applied and was accepted to UAB last year, but I'm a U of A alum and a former AL state resident, so I had really strong ties to the state.

RISING MS2.😎😀
Hon, I'm about as risen as I'm gonna get. 😉

The time is really flying....they're already talking about orientation plans for the new M1s. I'm going, wow, didn't I just have my own orientation a few weeks ago???? 😛

yeah, weve had this convo a dozen times already but its crazy.

3rd and 4th year are continuous at my school, i will walk into the hospital this friday and sign all my patient notes as a 3rd year but come monday, i'll be signing off all my notes as a 4th year. sick. this is my last week as a cc3! 😎

Hey guys, back from a 250-mile motorcycle ride. A spur of the moment thing - some friends showed up at our house this AM and I decided "what the heck!"

But now my butt and hands are killing me - I can barely feel the keys on the keyboard!

So, for those that sent me PMs - I'll return them tomorrow 😳

Off to watch the Sopranos!

P.S. This is where we rode out to: http://www.poopys.com/

OMG! A friend just e-mailed me...

I had a friend who wrote his MCAT last week... at one of the testing station... when he arived he was informed there would be a fire drill... it ended up being in the middle of his verbal (his... and my worst subject). After the fire drill everyone was heading back in... and they all ended up getting stuck in the elevator, for a half and hour... with like 15 people... and it was really hot... he is sort of clausterphobic (as I think anyone would be in that situation)... I couldn't even imagine... that's like an MCAT nightmare!!

OMG! Can you imagine!?😱

Ahem. That's MS2 now. 😀

I was busy investigating.

I can't believe we got ANOTHER Meg!!! That's, like, what, four of them now? I swear, A-man, we're just collecting them like crazy. 😀

Lol.. we're popular these days I suppose. Hope one day my little folks know me as "Dr. Meg" ... sigh...

I'm considered instate for USA in some programs (not NECESSARILY med school, but they do look at us first) b/c my home county is one over from Mobile.. it's about 30 mins. USA would be my #1, but I'll probably end up at UMC. If I waited til next year, my MCAT would probably be good enough for UAB, but I just don't want to wait if I dont have to.. (long story, postbacc instead of traditional pre med, took first MCAT w/ one out of the 8 prereqs and taught myself the rest, will have half of them done in august and feel much better already about it, but of course without having all the phys and orgo there's no way my mcat will be at my highest potential). I have one more year of pre-reqs and upper levels, i'll do two if I HAVE to, but I really want to go next year, and if I can gain about 3-4 pts on my MCAT i'll feel decent about it.

That's scary. I'd have taken the stairs, A, (horrible elevator-phobe, avoid them whenever possible, very fast stair runner.. lol) and B, I think PS section would've freaked me out more. I usually FEEL best about VR, even if it isn't my highest. Guess it's cause I have the most experience with it.. lol

I got 2 of those in my family. Well, one is astrophysics.

The black sheep of the clan.😎

wow... *amazed*. the only family feature I can cite anywhere near astrophysics is an Apollo 13 astronaut. He's my.. 5th cousin? Really cool guy, but ya know... astronaut, astrophysics... no comparison.

So, is that the plan in case you don't get in, just another full year of post-bacc?

I haven't decided yet. I'm prepping for reapplication this fall (think ahead! :meanie:), but I don't yet know what to do next year in case I don't get in - I'd be applying to the Caribbean in the next cycle, as well, so I will not be preparing for a 3rd cycle - would rather go to the Caribs. However, I don't know what to do for a year....a master's doesn't sound very enticing. And neither does work, especially around these parts, since it's a small town with limited opportunities, particularly because there's a university here, so tons of recent grads with little work experience, just like me. And I don't want to move. I guess an online master's is the only option.

My gramps discovered that Mars used to be covered with water. He's a pretty big authority in his field.

My dad left science for business. Already made more money than 1000 physicists would in their lifetime.

Yeah, considering I've only had one year of sciences, I'll continue taking some more upper levels (some fun things I can't fit in this year) and focus on my master's degree more heavily... i'm only taking one grad class a trimester this year. I really don't WANT a plan.. i'm "planning" on kicking some MCAT a$$ in 66 days and getting in this year 👍 (i only want 3-5 points, and I KNOW i can do that...)

It depends on how math-phobic you are. If you are good at math, it's fine. Ditto for p. chem. I didn't understand a thing, but I did mad work acing the tests because I could set up the matrices and solve for the eigenvalues.

I suffered through one semester of inorganic (boring) so that I could take a semester of bioinorganic. That covers how your body uses transition metals. It was awesome, worth taking the semester of inorganic.
aww, man i should have totally taken that class! i LOVE that kind of linear algebra / diff eq stuff. (nerd).

WOW. Grandpa = hero. My dad was "too smart for college, it bored him". Owns his own commercial construction building now and does quite well. Dad and I scored the same on our ACT (32). I always pick that I have his brains and mom's work ethic (she was an A-B kid, but worked her butt off).

I wish I had brains like my father, he's a freaking genius. Did I mention that his PhD in physics and overwhelming success in business all came after being born into a peasant family with a deadbeat father who was an alcoholic always in jail and a mother who dropped out of school after grade 9? He never talks about it, but it really fell into place one day when we were visiting my grandmother back home (his mother) and we were walking down this street and this drunk homeless dude called out from a ditch...my father went there and talked to him for quite a while. When he came back, I asked him why he talked to that guy so long, and he's like "Oh, he was my classmate in high school." I was like, wow, I can't believe these 2 people came from the exact same background. It really shows how intelligence and hard work are all you need to beat the odds.👍

My mom's not supersmart, but not stupid either. I think at this point I can objectively compare my intelligence to that of my parents', and I think I fall right in between. Makes sense.

OK, wtf IS linear algebra? Is it below Calc I in terms of difficulty? Above it? I always hear about it, but don't know anyone who's taken it.

Amazing story. And I agree that i'm also right in between that of my parents.

I can't wait for tomorrow...

1) can finally send away those lab reports to my grader

2) can see if AMCAS finally got 1 of my 2 transcripts

3) can get $$$ and buy my ticket home 👍

4) hopefully my new Family Guy DVDs will finally arrive!

I know, I'm such a nerd, keep checking the mailbox everyday waiting on the EK's and my TPR workbook.. LOL. Tomorrow's Monday! They might actually come!!

Are the EKs I sent you still not there? WTF?

I checked on the tracking # on Canadapost and the latest thing I see there is that it's arrived to a sorting plant in Mississauga (that's in Ontario, right by the border), but that's from 5/24, which was a week ago!

I don't know if they update once the item has crossed the border, cuz I presume at this point it's under the auspices of USPS.

Sorry that it's taking so long! "Expedited," my ass. I've shipped books to the US before and no one's complained, so I didn't think it'd take 2 freaking weeks.

LOL.. it's okay, I had tons of stuff to catch up on before I started on those. I'll be glad to see em though. hehe. refreshing, new study material. woohoo!

45 T would be hilarious!

Wow, wtf, so I'm browsing through my school's website, and apparently their residency requirement for a second degree is just 30 credits! Which I will have met by the end of next spring with my current plan, anyway. Should I just go for it and file for a degree? LOL. Then I could put "Jochi1543, BA, BS, MD" on my office door in the future.

Nice. I say there's no such thing as too many degrees. LOL. I have 2 BA's and a Certification in Gerontology, working on my MS in Clinical Psych (which I hope i DONT have to finish...lol), and then there's the MD... File for degree. You earned it!

Nevermind, I will not have had enough science credits for a B.S....I'll have 60 and they want 75.👎 So much for my great plan.

Aww man.. Dang. Well, there's your backup plan for next year..:laugh:

But remember, we don't NEED no dumb back up plans!

Actually, they have a 1-year (sept to august) master of counselling program, and the courses sound fairly interesting...that's something to consider. I'd have to see if I could get funding, though - I don't really wanna pay for a degree I don't particularly need.

True that. See, my undergrad (one of them) is in psych, so MS was the next logical step, even before I thought of med school. I didn't wanna drop the degree, on the off chance that I need that backup

I claim my music undergrad though. I worked a heckuva lot harder for it. And these bio classes have nothing on 80-90 hr school/rehearsal/practice schedules. I'm set for med school with that routine. hahaha.
