Our lovely Randames.

The best deal I've seen is for TX: med school tuition at any of the TX schools, including Baylor, is like $6500 per year. It was WAY cheaper for me to go to Baylor than for me to go to any of my state schools, all of which charge around $20k and don't give scholarships. Plus, and I know Ana will back me up here, Baylor is a totally awesome school. As much as I liked UF and USF, it would be insane to pick either one of them over Baylor, which DOES give scholarships. 😍
No, the best deal is in #$%^#$%&^& Quebec!😡 It's $3000 a year for QC residents, I know someone who went to McGill and graduated without a dime in loans - just worked as a paramedic full-time in the summers and part-time during the school year. BASTARD!!!!😡 LOL.:hardy:

But I'd rather get $100K in loans than live in Quebec, so there.:meanie: :meanie: :meanie:

:hardy:

Oh naaaaasty, cat finally got the giant fly and now I have to listen to her crunching on it loudly.:scared: *gross*

Oh joy, the 75+mph winds, hail, and "dangerous lightning" should be making their way into town within about an hour and a half to two hours.

*Crossing fingerS* that it's better by 5:20ish. I hate walking around campus in the rain. YUCK.

I BACK YOU UP IN THIS STATEMENT TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

My friend interviewed at Baylor and said Baylor and Duke were her top choices but sadly she was waitlisted at both and has decided on one of the Fl. schools unless she gets off the waitlist at one of those places. I've heard a lot of people say Baylor is top notch and I think Ana made a good decision in picking it over other Tx. schools.

Oh and yeah I agree Tx. is cheaper then Fl. in terms of tuition for med school. And after Tx. the next cheapest is probably the UCs.

a question for you randomites
How does working in as a paralegal look for med school? I know it has nothing to do with clinical exp or research but it's just something I can do for the year while I'm applying.

I agree with Q not to do something just because it looks good for medical schools. I think working as a paralegal could also give you a lot to talk about and show that you have seen how other careers can be anyhow and give you something to talk about in an interview.

Med school adcoms like people with unique experiences who have had diverse interests and backgrounds. So things like this can never be bad. It can only be bad if your entire essay is talking about what's wrong with doctors and the medical system and healthcare policies. bwahahahahahahaha. However, unless you mention that you were a stripper or a pimp or a drug dealer or something ******ed like that I don't think other jobs are going to hurt you just because they are out of medicine. Hell, if you put that you worked at mcdonald's I doubt they'd care.

Again as I said above, at best you'll get a good LOR and something unique to talk about in interviews. I'd go ahead and do it.

I remember someone on our Canadian forums posted about how she was a stripper for all of undergrad and was gonna put it on her apps....when everyone told her to NOT do it, she said we're all closed-minded and judgmental, but she's the one who owns a condo at age 21.

No clue whatever happened to her, but I think it'd be safe to assume that she never got in if she indeed put her stripping career on there. Especially if the motivation was to own a condo and drive a shiny car. I mean, maybe if she were a single mom trying to feed the kid and stay in school, the adcoms would give her a second, but I highly doubt.

I guess i have to give up my side hobby of selling drugs for the sake of med school. :meanie:

it.

Michigan is looking for pimps. I'm a HO now but hope to be promoted soon.

most jobs are just boring in general
at least you get studying done at yours

Yes this is true.

We had a visiting professor from Brigham and Women's here yesterday and he told us they got in trouble for ACGME violations on their blood bank rotation. :wow:

Our blood bank rotation is 8-5. Period. Plus weekend autopsy call, but that still doesn't get you anywhere near 80 hours a week.

those are some really good hours

So I called my credit card company and they said they couldn't raise my limit cuz I don't have 6 months' payments history - which is weird, b/c I've had the card for that long and I've never been late with payments.😕

Blah, this is annoying. My friend with no credit history has 5x my limit, just by virtue of being a citizen and I'm a PR, so I always get shafted - and unlike her, I also have car and insurance payments history to show.👎 Not fair!!!!👎

I don't wanna go to the gym....but I had PMS from hell last week and gained 5 lbs (I kid you not), so I have to.👎 I doubt I'll work out more than 2-3 times during my 2-week trip home, so I better get to work while I'm still here.

Wow.. impressive. Lots of ice cream, eh? lol. Have fun at the gym... putting off going to class for as long as possible...

Hi guju! I haven't seen you around in forever. What are you up to? Are you applying this year or next?

I'm waiting to hear back from a master's program. Getting a bit anxious. Its a one year master's program at USF COM. Not the IMS program but a different program.

Are you doing research of sorts this summer or anything of that nature as most med students do after year one??? Still teaching at Kaplan and what not??

So I think I have to brave Walmart tonight. My mother decided that 2 days before my departure was the best time to e-mail me a bunch of shopping requests. My mom is pretty big, esp. for a short person, and in Russia the clothing retailers like to think that no one has feet over size 7 or wears clothes over size 6 (especially short people), so whenever I visit, I have to buy them stuff. However, she wants all kinds of "nice stuff," but I think she's missed the point that I live in the middle of nowhere now, so it's either Walmart or Sears here for plus-sized clothing.🙄
