look on the bottom of your bottle--watch out for plastic #7.....this type of plastic will leach cancer causing chemicals into your water in hot weather...like if you leave it in the car or something. yeah--i was using a bottle for like half a year and realized that it's that kind of plastic. great
LOL...I just got back from a 2-week trip where my grandmother forcefed me radioactive cheese and blueberries....and you expect me to care about #7 plastic?:hardy: *chews on an invigorating cesium snack*

Hello randomite friends!!

I just got back from my trip to Nebraska - the whole thing was absolutely perfect. Olivia spent three nights in the hotel with me and we did all kinds of fun stuff during the days. Luke is adorable and really strong for his age! Great to see my brother too, and just to relax and be in Nebraska again.

I was slammed with work emails when I got back - I'm by myself on heme, which is a really busy service, and then have to teach the M2s, and give another stupid autopsy conference that was just sprung on me. Today I really have got to work on cleaning up my house - I left it a mess, and gotta do all my laundry!

Don't forget NASCAR at the Indy Brickyard today!! 😀

I want sushi reaaaaally badly, but it's 12:30 and the sushi place doesn't open till 4 on weekends.

*intense suffering*

You never know, meg... I've gotten 3 (two of which i thought would come post-mcat only). Hang in there, you may be surprised 🙂

🙂

I've gotten several secondaries - now I just hope they take me seriously LOL.

Ouch. Writing this is killing me from the sunburn I got from my Buffett party weekend.

don't just sit around hoping for them to take you seriously...start bugging the hell out of everyone you can get on the phone from the admissions office.

Yay!!!!!!

Since you haven't posted any more worries, I'm guessing she's talking up a storm??? 😀

I'm not really sure how she is doing. She has her well check on Wednesday so I'll let you know what the pediatrician says. She has a lot of words now but still has not put two words together. Her comprehension seems excellent, though.

So different from my older one who was saying "bad doggy!" at 11 months old.

Has she ever put any words together, even "no, mommy" or "my toy" or "no, mine"?

I'm going to send you a PM with some tips and websites for speech/language. You can look at them or file them away on your desktop.

No offense, but most physicians think that at 2 if a kid has 50 words and is saying 2-word utterances, they're fine. Unfortunately, that's the data from research in the 70's. More recent data has girls saying >300 words at 2 and using on average 3-4 word phrases. Boys of course are different. This is data based on research by Rhea Paul, a leading expert in child speech-language development.

If she's using that many words but hasn't gone on to phrases yet, I wouldn't be too concerned, especially with an older sister. But if she has less than 225 words (75% of 300 words), then I would take a look at some of those speech/language websites and try to facilitate her language/speech at home. You're smart enough that you can work on it without a therapist 🙂

The only two word phrase she says is "Thank you" but I don't think that counts. She has never put two independent ideas together. 🙁

I haven't counted her words but I do think it is significantly less than 225. Her pediatrician has never been concerned before, the early intervention people have been but said she is very borderline for receiving help since she isn't delayed in any other area (advanced in other areas actually).

I'll check out stuff in the PM you sent me. Thanks. 🙂 At her age they don't account for prematurity any longer do they? Not that 5 weeks really makes that big of a difference.

typically 24 months is where age adjustment ends, so she's now seen as a developing 24-month old instead of 22.75 month-old.

If her comprehension is really great, then I wouldn't worry a whole lot. You can work with her at home unless you really want the extra help from EI, which is not always a bad thing.

I don't know how your family dynamic is, but I've seen younger siblings be a little later in "normal" talking when they have busy parents and especially an older sister who may talk a lot.

Language comprehension (following directions, appropriate responses, identifying objects), hearing level (if she's had more than 2 ear infections), and cognition (how she does at non-verbal tasks like puzzles) are key. If all those are peachy, then she'll catch up 👍

Oh - 300 words sounds like a lot, but if you take into account all the words at home, relatives, places she goes, people she knows - it starts to add up.

If I were you, I'd make an excel spreadsheet with columns for all the letters in the alphabet and start recording the words she says alphabetically. Then you'll have a better idea of what she says.

I can think of 20 words off the top of my head. I'm going to keep track but I don't think I'll get anywhere close to 200.

I think a big part of her speech issue is the fact that she's child #2. And her sister is a royal chatter box at home. Of course, her daycare teachers have yet to hear to say a single word but that's another story (she's incredibly shy). 🙄 My mom says I was very similar to my little one. I am also the second child with almost exactly the same age difference between me and my older sister as there is between my two girls.

Her comprehension amazes me. I expect her not to understand much since she can't communicate very much but I think she understands a lot more than her sister did at the same age. Cognition seems normal and she's never had an ear infection (I'm sure that will change now that she is in daycare) so that's all good. 🙂

I will work with her at home and my husband will too. We've been trying to off and on but perhaps we haven't been consistent enough. 😉

we all have to start somewhere.

It's good to be concerned about all aspects of development, but trust me - cherish the non-verbal times because it won't last long!

LMAO, don't I know it. 😉 There are days I just want the older one to stop talking so I can have some peace and quiet.

ohhh chipotle 👍
x2
The carne asada at this one local eatery is heavenly 🙂

At least you'll be able to tell time really well 😀

Ish gonna be a long day para mi 🙁

Oh man! My old laptop went belly up...it had been having probs for a while, and yesterday it finally turned off for good and wouldn't turn on again. I bought it used, and in my experience, whenever I take a laptop in to get fixed, all I hear is, "well, uh, I don't know what's wrong with it and I couldn't fix it, buttttt I did spend 2 hours trying to figure it out, sooooo you owe me *insert outrageous amount of money*." So, I decided to go buy a new one. It really wasn't in my budget, and I'm quite cranky now.👎 However, this one is brand new, warranty and all.

Hey everyone.

The reason why I haven't been on recently is because MMORPGs are the work of the devil.

New computers are fun 🙂

Goood morning everyone! Here's hoping for a repeat of last Tuesday (another great test grade back and weight loss at WW meeting at lunch!) Plus tonight's lecture (the last one) is embryology.. and i'm quite interested 🙂

Oh sweet! The local police department is getting so desperate, they waived the application fee!:hardy: I'm applying as a back-up career in case I don't get into med this year....if I don't, I'll go to the police (if accepted, of course....it's not really any easier to get into than med 🙄), and serve 2-3 years before applying again. But I'm comforting to find out that they appear to have difficulty getting enough applicants...it's good for me. Maybe I'll slip through the cracks.:meanie:

Cool deal.

The advisor was actually nice to me today.. caught him advising a student and he asked me how LORs were going (so apparently someone told him I went ahead and applied this cycle...:laugh:). I told him my last two practice test scores and he bit with a 👍. That makes me happy.

Why oh why do I seek approval?

Awesome. Are you a power hungry freak? 😉

Yeah, I'm pretty much looking for a way to beat people up w/o getting in trouble.:meanie:

I have to pass the fitness test now, I already did some training for it back in the spring - thought I was gonna apply at another city, but decided to wait for the recruiting season here instead, so I won't have to move...but I need some help with one section, which is jumping over a 3-ft fence. It's hard to practice on your own, because it's pretty scary to just throw yourself up in the air. But zippy used to be a cop, so he promised to train me this August when I'm in Chicago.:meanie:
