I was just in Houston with nothing to do (except take Step 2 CS)! I should have tried to find a mall or other shopping center for my customary post-exam-retail-therapy binge.

OMG! You should have gone to the houston galleria, one of the greatest malls EVER!

I learnt today that the boiling temperature for water is 212 F.

Hard-won edjumacation.

Did you do the experiment and see it boil at 212? The boiling point of acetone is considerably lower, a fact my chem lab partner learned with great chagrin and explosiveness during one of our labs when I was casually backing away as the heat was increased. Elspeth! I said, There may be a problem here!

I employed arithmetic.

Since I know F - 32 * (5 / 9) = C
and I know water boils at 100 C from high school labs,
and I was told that the boiling temp of water in Fahrenheit was 212 degrees,

the mental process was...

212 - 32 = 180,
18 * 5 = 50 + 40 = 90,
900 / 9 = a beautiful round 100 C

therefore water boils at 212 F 🙂

Enlightenment on the way to the acute care lab 🙂

212, FFS.

Now I know why yaah doesn't like round numbers.

****in Fahrenheit scale.

My attending this week has a cold, and was kind enough to bring alcohol wipes with him to signout.

What is the basis for the calibration of the Fahrenheit thermometer?

(I mean, we were taught that for calibrating in Celsius, one stuck the glass-tube-with-red-alcohol in ice and marked the point of equilibration as zero, then stuck it in closed steam and marked that point as 100, and divide the distance by 100.)

I'm sure it's out on the 'Net somewhere, but I was wondering what you were taught in school.

Alcohol wipes. For droplet transmission?

Here he'd get saddled with a mask 😉

I figured this was worthy of my debut post on this thread (been daunted by the sheer volume of posts):

 Congrats yaah!!!

Heck yeah... said in true yaah spirit!

Since you're the scribe and obviously can't write for your own occasion:

"My love has placed her little hand
With noble faith in mine,
And vowed that wedlock's sacred band
Our nature shall entwine.

My love has sworn, with sealing kiss,
With me to live--to die;
I have at last my nameless bliss.
As I love--loved am I!"

Congrats yaah! Were there tears?

Just promise me you won't go to disneyworld for your honeymoon and wear a top hat with mouse ears whilst the mrs. wears a veil with mouse ears!

I think an SDN rivalry is shaping up with the Huskers playing Michigan in the Alamo Bowl. 😉

Not fair!!!!.....We get to play a crappy team. Team 3 versus team 22....TWENTY TWO!

BCS sucks...

But at least you're in the BCS!! 👍

I think you folks will slaughter FSU.

I am rooting very hard against USC, so they don't get a 3-peat on the national championship!!

The Nebraska/Michigan game should be a good one. For a while it looked like Nebraska would be playing Iowa which would have been brutal for me. 🙄

Id be rooting for Nebraska naturally!!!!!!!!......Go Huskers!!!!!!!!!!

I hope they break Manningham's arm or something like that.... :meanie: :meanie:

I was surprised actually. I thought Nebraska was like 4-7 this year. Are they still running the option on 75% of plays? I half expect them to bring back the wishbone someday.

Has being newly engaged made you silly?? :meanie:

Nebraska is 7-4. They have run the option exactly one play this entire year. Bill Callahan has instituted the West Coast Offense here (with players recruited to run the option 🙄 ). I miss the option.

I have started getting hives every night. It is extremely strange. They are gone in the mornings.

It happens in different places, when I wear different clothes, eat different foods, etc. It is the weirdest thing ever. 😕

Awesome!!! 👍

I love snow. Though it has been so incredibly cold lately (we had a record low of -9 yesterday... brrrr). I am so excited about UTSW but seriously the one thing making me hesitate is giving up snow.

Dont worry about the snow, we had a lovely ice storm a few days ago, so you will still experience the joys of winter weather. 😀

Anyone know what I'm supposed to do with the comb in comb honey? I was given a container to try and most of the honey is still inside the comb, which if I recall is made of beeswax.

😱 I hate ice storms. Humans are not meant to live in such conditions.

Can it be broken to release more honey? Or, do you just have to chew on it or suck it out?

Was it just me or were the forums down most of yesterday and today?

I got a free lunch today with the candidate of the day. The more candidates I see the more I am glad I am already in a residency spot. You guys have some sweet resumes. The one today had something about working on the space shuttle (not in space though!)

Isn't it scary? We just had an attending in another field interview.

I haven't been at the U this month so no free lunches for me. Sigh.
