I don't think I could ever live on the east coast (or anywhere where it snows again).

I actually really like snow. What I don't like is the absolutely frigid cold that we get here in Iowa sometimes. 20s or 30s is fine. Below 0 for days in a row is not fine.

Yeah, I enjoy the occasional snow too (as long as I'm not travelling). Ice storms are another thing. They usually equal no electricity and me busting my uncoordinated ass on some sidewalk.

Go Steelers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, this forum sure is quiet!

I start a hemepath elective on Monday. I am extremely excited about it.

Lost got pre-empted tonight here for an Iowa State basketball game. *cries*

I was thinking the same thing...granted, I haven't stopped by often cuz I've been busy with work and other things.

You should just download the Lost episode. That being said, I didn't think last night's episode was all that good.

I went to UM-MSU last night. Poor Sparty. 😉 At the end of the game, the UM fans were chanting, "Just like football." They also had a few, "Can't read, can't write," chants in there. Was a good game, exciting actually which is much different from a normal UM basketball game which consists of one or two dunks, 10-20 three pointers, and a bunch of standing around.

Now only if Blue can beat Sparty in hockey tonight...we'll have a trifecta! Of course, Sparty seems to always give us a hard time in hockey...we got shut out in the last game against them. We've lost 4 straight road games and we play in Lansing tonight. Hopefully we can break the bad stretch.

Go Blue!

What happened? I always neglect to pay attention to hockey results. I was at the basketball again today, another win, this one over Wisconsin.

I am really uninteresting today. Maybe I'm tired? I am watching "The River Wild" and I think Kevin Bacon needs to be done away with.

Yeah, I saw the basketball result on ESPN. They didn't show the game here. 🙁 Instead they showed the Duquesne game 😕 😡

Anyways, the hockey game was a 1-1 tie in Lansing. Damnit...Sparty always beats us or we tie. Grrrrrrr.

On another note, I just came back from movie and dinner. Had to drive to Harvard Square which makes my blood boil a little when having to deal with Massachusetts drivers. Brokeback Mountain was quite umm...interesting.

Yeah massachusetts drivers suck. The only good thing is that they are entirely predictable, you know they will take any free space and cut you off, and go from the far left lane to the exit on the right at the last minute. Predictability helps.

Actually, thinking back to last night, the more annoying thing was the pedestrians. They are unpredictable...they just cross the street whenever they please. It's a miracle that I didn't hit anyone.

I thought New York was bad, until I've seen some of the people out here in Oklahoma drive 😱 They are WORSE then the ny'ers or jersey drivers. I thought we couldn't be beat.

It's true. One time I was driving through the north end - I think after a celtics game, and people were just walking across the street. One guy got pissed at me because he thought I was going to hit them and he rapped on my window. WTF, I stopped, I don't know. I was driving down the street and he expected me to automatically stop and wait for him to decide whether he was going to cross, even though he wasn't at a crosswalk. It's like they intentionally avoid crosswalks. Whereas here people specifically wait for the light to cross. When I walk here I just cross without waiting and the people waiting kind of look befuddled before deciding if they should walk too.

I have never seen Oklahoma drivers. At least in the northeast, like I said, you know what you are getting. Even if they drive like pricks you know they are going to be pricks so you can predict it.

Ann Arbor is nice for the most part with one very notable exception. State Street. Driving on that street through central campus can be quite chaotic since students don't even look both ways before crossing the street. They just cross. The stretch of State St. near Angell Hall...that whole street is like a block long crosswalk!

Never drove through North End...most of my driving involves going into Cambridge. It's only during the recent month since I've had reasons to actually drive through Boston and to get to know the geography a little better. Driving through Boston, or any city for that matter, just simply reaffirms my belief that the best way to get to know a place is to be absolutely lost

Yeah, even if you know the geography it doesn't help. I think there are even one way streets that dead end. And there are very few roads that stay straight for more than a couple hundred yards, so you never actually know which way you're going.

I agree state street sucks. Head down, keep walking, hope the cars stop.

Yeah, I agreed to pick up the person instead of meeting at the T-stop which meant that I had to mapquest for directions. The map looked quite simplistic but in Boston, street names change so frequently that the text of the directions was down right ridiculous.

The fortunate thing about navigating through Boston is that it's a relatively small city. If you know a few landmarks and some of the major streets, you're pretty much OK...Mass Ave, Beacon, Commonwealth, and Huntington are my major landmarks...usually if I'm lost I eventually run into one of those streets and I can find my way around.

I am installing World of Warcraft right now. 😀

I started hemepath today, and it was really fun and cool, but totally kicked my butt. Blast vs. lymph vs. red cell precursor?? 😕

I am just finishing up Heme. Wait til you see lymphs on a peripheral smear from a neonate/infant. I swear, even after four weeks, those things still look like blasts. Heme was alot of fun (even though utter demoralizing at times--watch out for hematagones), and really just reaffirmed my interest in a hemepath fellowship.

I cannot get this darn thing to play! It is all installed but I can't connect to the internet. Obviously my internet connection is working.

I don't know if the problem is on my end or with their servers. Driving me nuts. 😡 +pissed+

It's a sign. The only computer game that is worth the time it takes to play it these days is none other than:

www.kingdomofloathing.com

Fantastic!! 👍 👍

I get to sit on my ass all day today with a stack of cases over a foot high because the one I am signing out with is writing a grant. +pissed+

Patient care! Our mission is patient care!

Wow, this discussion is certainly capturing my interest. 😀

Unfortunately, I have no idea what they are talking about.

WTF is up with Oprah and this author guy? I thought she was pissed at him, now he is going to be on the show AGAIN (for at least the third time).

Yes Oprah, we get it. He lied to you. You were cheated. Grow the **** up and get over it. Why don't you just buy every single copy of the book and have a book burning party so no one has to ever experience his lies again?

Well I finally got Warcraft up and going. 👍

Unfortunately somebody already had the name beary. 🙁

I took tomorrow off because I had a pissy call night last night (called in at 3am) and don't need to be there as I am not on blood bank call tomorrow. So nice to have a 3 day weekend. Ahhhh...

Nice dude.

I'm on frozen call tonight since 5 pm.

I too have tomorrow off as well...since I'm on independent study week and I will be at home cranking up my electric guitar all day! They never did tell me what exactly I can and cannot study. I will study...um yeah, music!

independent study week??!!

That's awesome. *searches for programs with independent study weeks*

Hey AT - do you still play WoW? Anybody else here do?

We get one independent study week during first year and two during second year. During second year, I'm gonna use those weeks to visit labs. This week, I spent the first two days cleaning up surg path cases from the week before. But all in all, it was a light week...of course.

I never bought World of Warcraft. I think LADoc00 plays or played the game though. Anyways, I've seen a few of my friends back in Michigan succumb to the addictiveness of this game. I was already weaning myself off Warcraft Classic and Warcraft Frozen Throne by that point and felt that I didn't need to get addicted to another game. Ah, just but a phase in my life.

WoW is like role playing, right? Those kind of games fell out of flavor for me very early on during grad school. I had decided to work on my real time strategy skills which I thought was much more fun. Games last a finite period of time but they can be intense because I would be pressing 100+ buttons per minute. Playing as a member of a clan did take up quite a bit of my time, which I had during grad school (and clinical rotations, when I didn't give a damn to begin with). I don't play games anymore. Work and social life take up enough of my time now.

How about bearyWTFBBQPIE ?

Well, that's a good one. 🙂 I ended up just going with the generic "huskerfan". (Wonders to self, why is "beary" taken and "huskerfan" not? Strange world.) But I am not sure I really like my character, so for my next character I will definitely anme it bearyWTFBBQPIE.

I guess I also could do bearybeary. or pathbeary. SDNbeary. But yours is definitely the most original.

OK, now there are 1012 people reading the EM forum. I guess their "Things I learned from my patients" thread got linked on boingboing.net, and then a whole bunch of blogs.

Bah! Screw it. We will never be able to compete with 1000+ angry posters. The "doctors are mean, mean monsters" (boo hoo) posts from dolts with no medical experience/knowledge have begun.

I agree!! I sort of like path being the king of the hill. 🙂

Though I must admit that I have been posting over there quite a bit. I should demand to have my posts removed from their count.

They certainly have been putting in a long-term dedicated effort to pass us. I remember when we passed them, I think we had a couple posts about it and that was it.
