Vanilla and Chocolate.

My LAST day on FNA service. 2.5 hours to go. I almost feel like it's my last day of clinical medicine all over again.

It was weird, ...and served ice cream instead of cake because they hate cake.

BS!
How can they hate cake? 😉

I bet that was motivated partly by a cost thing, Wedding (or unity cakes) are expensive... And true if you worry more about how it looks they can use some less that tasty things to make them look good.

But find some palce that does good tasting cakes... Oh man.

The cake at mine was Chocolate, with layers of Chocolate Ganache and Raspberry with a butter cream frosting...

Man that was good! Expensive but good.
😀 :hardy:

So I went to a Whole Foods partly to get myself better-tasting peaches now that summer is winding down, and partly to see what the fuss is about organics.

I bought buckwheat "Wild Blueberry and Raspberry" waffles for $4.

The thing that I didn't do, was read the ingredients list.

When I buy 6 waffles for $4, I expect the wild blueberry and raspberry component of those waffles to be
(a) wild,
(b) hand-picked by some joyful smiling organic berry-picker,
(c) blueberries and raspberries.

And what do they turn out to be, but "naturally-flavoured" bits of dates.

FFS!

Yeah but it's organic.

I enjoy whole foods if only for the people watching opportunities - hippies young and old can congregate and argue over the best kind of hummus. And to see the look on one of their faces when they get to the checkout line, realize they have forgotten their hemp satchel, and have to decide between paper, plastic, or trying to carry all of their bags of organic 25 grain bread and cartons of guava juice in their arms.

In MI and MA maybe. 😉

Does 25-grain bread make one poop really well? Or is it merely a sign of indecision?

Where do hippies get all this money from?

I was out in DC and the closest grocery store (which wasn't even very close) to the northwestern tip of the White House complex was a Whole Foods.

My husband makes the best hummus in the entire universe. He pressure cooks the chickpeas with dried chipolte peppers. And we get this secret tahini from an obscure middle eastern grocery (where the hippies dare not tread). He puts so much garlic in it I could weep. It ends up costing much less than Whole Foods jacked-up- robbery prices. Oh it is so divine. All the surgery interns wanted it and I would not share. No way.

The interesting thing about whole foods is that they do have high prices, yet if they were to raise them further i daresay it may even improve their business. People think they are somehow helping the environment by buying their food at inflated prices. lol, But they try to use solar power!

I have not a clue. I think it refers to the fact that the whole process of the food from small seedling (or whatever) to packaged product is done under "great care" and regulated. That is, they don't buy noodles unless they can know that the noodles were manufactured with love.

It's strange though, I did a comparison at the store today, because Hillers was out of Pink Lady apples (which are the best kind) and I tried Whole Foods to see if they had any. They did not. Prices:

Gala at Hillers: $1.49/lb
"Organic" Gala at Hillers: $1.99/lb

Gala at WF: $2.99/lb
"Michigan grown all natural" Honeycrisps: $4.99/lb.

That's a pretty interesting price premium for an apple.

I had to Google satsuma. But isn't a satsuma essentially a mandarin orange and therefore in the "orange" category of fruit?

Speaking of oranges, I never saw anyone peel an orange until med school.

They are way better than other oranges. I get the big box at christmas. The best one is the brand where they all come wrapped in little papers.

It was weird, they had instrumental versions of Cold Play and REM throughout the ceremony. Then they danced a tango at the reception, and served ice cream instead of cake because they hate cake.

ColdPlay and REM??!! 😱

Where the hell have all the clinical medicine sucks threads vanished to?

I am studying postpartum management and it is bringing back the sight, smell and sound of exploding koochies with extraordinary vividness.

I hate it when people eat oranges. That smell is so potent you can tell from like a mile away that somebody is eating an orange.
Now I know WTF is up with Arsenic's avatar. How much longer is this going to go on? It creeps me out and makes me think of that blonde girl on Veronica Mars.

 Are you studying for Step 3? So am I!

Pretty good, except that I should be asleep.

Bear says "hi". I am changing my avatar to his photo in honor of sleep. 🙂

Have you seen my new kitty?

Hi Bear! We have a very similar name! 😉

I knew you had a new kitty, but haven't seen any pictures!

I'm done with Step 3. This is a different $1.3k pain-in-the-ass (or koochie - I love that word) that we're talking about - this is the Med Council of Canada OSCE exam that I can only take after I've proven that I've completed 1 year of residency.

So I'm back to role-playing "Nurse, atropine 0.5 mg IV push!"

I've already promised away all my clinical paraphernalia if I pass, please God.

btw why is Arsenic the posterior cervix?

Oh my gosh, good luck! I can't imagine having to take another one of these stupid exams. 😡

What did you see them do? Slice it and eat the sliced up pieces?

I start my OB-Gyn rotation on Monday. I would rather have my fingernails pulled out and my hands thrust into a vat of bleach. Sadly, they aren't giving me that option. It is going to suck so so so so so much. Just the thought of it is making me ill.

Overheard maintenance guys talking to each other this morning:

#1) Did you hear about how they are doing random urine screens for the housekeeping staff because a couple were caught doing drugs during work?
#2) I hope they don't do random screens on us, 85% of us would test positive.

😱

The cat likes to imitate the dog. He'll follow grooming cues and drink out of the water dish when the dog does. He wants to go outside with the dog and when bear gets a cookie he meows and wants one too. The dog has taught him how to push open doors and has given him an interest in learning how to drink out of the toilet. Apparently this is what big brothers are for.

I love wine! 😀 Anyone else?

I'm excited of possibly living in/afraid of Nor Cal. 😳

Is yaah not a moderator anymore? I just noticed that only deschutes is listed as a mod on this page.

Apologies if I missed this earlier!

He's an sMod. Under the new scheme he is a site wide moderator. Lee is working on being able to list all affiliated sMods, Mods, & Advisors in each forum but hasn't found a way to code it yet. His name will be attached again at some point.

I want a dog like:

Where do I get one? And can I get one in half-wolf breed format? (for the extra defensive capabilities..)
