Did anyone else catch this? We just lost one to the dark side. No wonder she hasn't been around in awhile:

Wow! That was totally under my radar...but hell, I don't really visit this site as much as I did in the past.

That's unfortunate that jeff2005 left the field. She was in the same class of applicants as deschutes, geddy, Harbster, yaah's evil twin, yaah's ferret, yaah's adopted son, and myself.

Maybe she couldn't stand being in the same field as LADoc00...as I remember, those two didn't get along. Surely, I jest though 😛

I had never heard of anyone leaving path for clinical med either, except for one guy who was an FMG and wanted an internal med residency at a big name program and couldn't get it, so he got a path spot (this was years ago when you could get a path spot as long as you had a pulse). Then he left as soon as they found a spot for him in IM.

In my program now, we have at least 5 residents who were once in some kind of clinical residency (one surgery, one pedes, two IM, one gen surg)

Attending today (On viewing a case of penile leiomyosarcoma): OOOOOOOHH this is a case of penosarcoma, also known as a malignant Schwanzoma.

 I think only pathologists would find that funny. Maybe it's all in the delivery.

I noticed that post yesterday and was pretty shocked too!!!! I remember her posts when she was applying for path!!

Wow, I can't believe it! She's at Iowa for residency. Never heard any rumors or anything about this.

I wonder why most people decide to have bridesmaids. Most of the time I think they feel obligated to ask certain parties and don't question the necessity of the role. Or, they can't fathom pictures without a huge ass wedding party. It's good to have someone to take care of snafoos for you. But, if someone is your good friend they will do that anyway.
I never quite understood the role of bridesmaid. And what if my bestest friend outside of the guy I was marrying, was a guy?

I went to some place on stadium but that was like $20 and I am not paying $20 plus tip for a haircut.
The cheapest haircut I ever got on this landmass was CAD$10 including tax. It was at a training salon. It also took 3 hours.

I haven't cut my hair since starting residency. But I do have pink highlights (which are starting to fade) and was thinking of doing purple next 👍

Usually the girl picks the bridesmaids and the guy picks the groomsmen. It would depend on how many women she already felt obligated to include in the wedding party and whether she chose to include you.

Basically, you run damage control and have to attend a bunch of events in addition to the wedding stuff.

I re-read and still don't entirely get the reference 😕
I Googled (naturally), and turned up... well, maybe you'd better Google it yourself.

I am however getting a penis this week (pun intended) 😉

Do you get it yet? A schwanz is slang for penis. Thus, he combined a slang term with a pathologic term and created a new diagnosis. I find it funny.

I just landed the freshest, most righteous turd in the hospital restroom. I didn't flush so that all may behold my glorious excrement. Thank you.

A schwanz is German slang for penis. I don't speak German.

Has anyone given you any grief about the pink highlights? I'm considering this as my next hair related endeavor but don't want everyone to crap themselves... thankfully, the stodgiest, oldest, crustiest attending we have is color blind so he'd be clueless regardless.

The answer is - no, and a surprising number of people have told me they like it, in elevators and etc.

I think the likelihood of people getting mad will be related to the um, "stuffiness" of a particular program 🙂

Ask a senior resident who is level-headed, not a "well, it would probably be okay but you probably shouldn't just in case someone gets mad". It's highlights, not a whole head of pink. And it'll grow out, get cut, or if you feel you have to do SOMETHING if someone reams you out you can back down and dye it back to its original colour.

Just whip out the shoe polish for work and wash it out when you get home. 😛

Hey deschutes, how is your Iowa friend?
My Iowa friend vanished this month!

I think she's okay. She mentioned a recent discovery, that one way to get free food was to go on dates.

(Cue rant from LADoc00 about women and credit cards.)

I know there are a bunch of audiophiles on this board - I'm thinking of investing in a solid home audio system.

I like what the Bose Wave does (radio-CD) as well as its small footprint, but the asking price of $500 is a little steep so I want to see what's out there before I decide. I've had decent experiences with Sony and Denon in the past. Was wondering what you have at home?

Also what music do you use to test possible audio system acquisitions? (I usually play the 1812 Overture.)

I have the Bose Radio.

I generally test it with a piece of music with loud and soft parts - like a lot of Strauss or Mahler. If a stereo can play Mahler and get it to sound clear, it's generally pretty good.

I would recommend a good recording of Also Sprach Zarathustra - there is a lot of noise in there and if it can handle the first 10 minutes or so, you should be golden. 1812 overture isn't as good because it's just cannons.

i have an 8 speaker Bose stereo in my Audi...and it sucks! the treble is not as crisp as cheaper stereos i've heard, and the tone of the bass is always off. At first i thought there was something wrong with the speakers, so i had them put in new speakers under warranty.....and afterwards, there was NO change.

i'm not a fan of Bose.....

Late response.. I knew a resident that left Path after one year for an Ivy league residency. 🙄

About sound, I've got Sony at home (only had 2 systems in almost 20 years) and Bose in my Benz. I'm pretty happy with Bose.

I don't think Home vs car stero systems is an apples to apples.
Too many other factors. (like factor verse after market stereo, adding a Amp)
Generally I think adding an amp and replacing the stereo are better for sound than replacing the speakers...

And no CD player? 😕
You got that lovely lovely sound system to hear the wonderful crackle of static in the background of Mahler?

No, it has a CD player with it.

The Mahler recordings I have have less static on them. A good sound system will let you hear the bass line when it is the only thing being played.

Yeah - when you said you had a "Bose Radio" I thought you meant the version without the CD player, which I took to mean you listened to classical radio hence the remark about static.

Decided to ditch the Bose (for now) and splurge on a Labor Day weekend trip to NYC.

I'll be on my own in the Central Park area, so if any of the NYC residents are in town and interested in meeting up for coffee, PM me. (I won't hold you to any other commitment - I'm good like that.)

If you've got an opinion on what I absolutely have to eat, do or see - or avoid at all costs - before I leave the city, I'd love to hear that too.

(The Random thread had to be bumped somehow 😉 )

I went to a gay wedding (excuse me - "Holy Unity Ceremony") over the weekend. My first!

No, it was not mine.

Holy Unit, Batman!

That's right boy wonder!

Ohhh look exact post counts...
man you people have a lot of posts!

It's often related to duration of membership 🙂

Dangitall I've been at the hospital for 12 hours and I'm yawning q30sec. Why is it that every time I look on PubMed there's another key paper that I have to include in my talk.

Because you keep looking! They do keep popping up - I always just keep hitting "related articles" and then find something new, and it goes on. Then I make the mistake of putting it in google and random abstracts not in pubmed come up.

It refers to the item submitted...
But how it differs from submission, I have no idea.
Yeah I dont think we really need that word...

"hey mr. submitter, did you sumbit your submittal yet? Submit to my demands, it needs to have been submitted yesterday! Demonstrate submission, and submit your submission on this submittial form."

Yeah that was stupid.. I just wanted to use as many submits as possible...

Man I hate waiting for tissue procurement.

Damn...I haven't even been to one! My membership card is going to be revoked!! 😉
