OMG Haven't been round here in so long! Been up to a lot, have a new special person in my life. So busy, how my peeps? Andy! How goes the pooping? Someday you'll have a great one! Banana! LOL, no babies soon. I just don't like the idea of being sterile and having it induced by a computer on my lap.

I think Jeff is right--it only causes a temporary decrease in sperm count.

actually, one of the postdocs is coming back to lab in a bit and we are gonna fetch ourselves some din-din. perhaps a beer run will be added to the list of things to do.

My present for friday afternoon at the VA was 20 containers of teeth removed for periodontal compromise. I have to dictate all of them, give measurements, describe, etc. When there is more than one tooth I can combine though. But still, it's a pain in the butt.

You are leaving out the evenings in the lab, the weekends in the lab, the working for free, the making up call nights on your surgery rotation because you took time off for the conference.... 😉 😛

But who am I kidding, I have an all-expenses-paid trip to San Antonio.

Now if I can just not think about the CS exam tacked on at the end, for a while.
 
Have fun in San Antone - one of my first year resident pals will be there (she graduated med school early and did research here for the few months before residency started). I think she's giving a talk.

Actually, no, was a different one!

I had to go in today for a case. Was sort of interesting. I wanted to sign out her cause of death as "trainwreck" due to all of her problems.

wow, you must have angered the Gods. kinda like my roommate who gets stuck with a call day on a weekend every weekend.

Nah, it isn't because of me. Actually, the way things have been going there lately this was a quiet day. They had several days this week with multiple cases (up to 5). Something about this month and clinicians getting autopsy permits. If I was really angering the gods I would be stuck with a congenital heart case or a large person with multiple abdominal surgeries who perfed a bowel.

Good morning path wonks and path wonkettes. It is a lovely day here in the morgue and I have nothing to do except wait for the medical examiner to call me back and tell me if I can release to the funeral home this poor soul whose aorta blew up on him.

No it is not.

Only EDTA can hurt them (this aspect of the movie Blade was so dumb...and EDTA is NOT a blue liquid!!!)

Well, unless the vampire fails to mount an immune response against the tranfused components, then yes. But perhaps the vampire benefits by hemolyzing?

EDTA was the secret weapon that Wesley Snipes had against the vampires. This "blue" liquid would be inside these bullets and when a vampire was shot with one of these bullets, the vampire would frickin' explode! Kabloom! That's like hemolysis x 273432 x 10^4235. Some wicked stuff.

Now why would EDTA do this? There must be some kind of "legitimate" yet farcical reason why the director of the film came up with this for a secret weapon. At least he could have made it sound all high tech by spelling out what EDTA stands for in the film. But I think they would have to shoot that about 23432 times before Wesley Snipes got the pronounciation correct.

Then one begs the question...why make the EDTA blue? First of all, EDTA is a white fine granular powder. When dissolved in aqueous solution, the solution stays clear. Even if you look at the liquid under a UV light box the frickin' liquid don't have no bluish hue.

But to simply answer your question yaah. Yes.

Blue is cool. If they left it clear, it may have been confused with water, which was the killing material used in 'signs'

My thought about the vampires is that maybe upon becoming a vampire you also become a universal recipient...or that the antigen-antibody reaction doesn't work if you are undead
