Did you make that snowman? I don't think I've done that in eons. Anyway, I'm sure it's gone now after the rain overnight.

Wow - this is the first saturday in awhile where I have absolutely nothing to do. I told myself I was going to do some reading but now I'm not sure.

Haha...no. The Japanese kids next door made it, which is interesting because that means that I am no longer the only Asian person in Michigan...let alone in my apartment community.

There's an asian family (or perhaps only a couple) in my complex.

I have had the most non-exciting and non-productive day in the history of the world. And I deem that it continue until sunday.

I am on call for labour and delivery tomorrow. My weekend is almost over.

I'm sorry. That both sucks and blows. My L&D call days were fairly benign. I had one weekend night where it was quite busy and I kept offering to go and do H&Ps so that they wouldn't make me go to more deliveries. The other nights I made a point of looking disinterested (since I knew the night residents weren't grading me anyway so as long as I was friendly and not incompetent I would be fine).

It's actually going to be my first day on service ever, since this week was entirely taken up by seminars. (I shouldn't say "entirely" - I've had some very pleasant half-days off!)

The course has been scheduled so that I am on call with a preceptor. So much for slacking off! But believe it or not, I do want to be able to deliver a baby by the end of this rotation. As a doctor I don't care it's AUB vs. DUB (why does Ob/Gyn have so darned many of these acronyms!?), but I sure would like to be comfortable doing low-risks.

So I'm stocking up on sleep today... just in case.

I thought AUB and DUB were Abnormal and Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding? Do they also refer to childbirth?

Ugh. I always hated having the first day on service also be the day I was on call. But at least you know about it. We always showed up for day one and they would ask for volunteers to be on call the first night. Then, if no one volunteered, they would choose someone.

I always think it amusing that it takes years of training and practice to be able to deliver a baby when for thousands of years it went along just fine without any so-called experts and their baby monitors and scalp electrodes. Then again, the infant mortality rate was fairly high back then.

Delivering babies = overrated.
Small Bag of Doritos = $0.79
Finding the right place to hide where no one can find you on OB call = priceless

Like yaah, I liked to run off and do H&Ps cuz OB H&P's are easy as cake. Lemme see...you ask like 4 questions right? Vaginal bleeding? Pain? Gush of fluid? Fetal movements? Do you make a mean meatloaf?

In general OB call sucks. Especially if you're with a preceptor all night. You're never gonna get rest and they'll always find a way to keep you busy. And they try not to let you hide either, which always frustrated me.

Well Andy, I am too darned bullyable 😉

Yes - with AUB/DUB I was simply referring to the gyne part of this rotation. No childbirth. I was just explaining my priorities for this rotation. Perhaps they will change and I will grow more cynical as the remaining 5 weeks go by! But surely a delivery cannot be that difficult - that's my starting point.

With all the travelling, my 8 nights of call have already been whittled down to 6... At least they have made that concession!

The Day After Tomorrow - good special effects, didn't like the movie much though. Gosh, my latest few movie downloads have been real duds. Alien vs. Predator better be a kickass movie

It's going to be tough to get over that sickness of yours if you are posting at 2am and 5am!! Don't forget to sleep!

OK mom. But I've been in Dracula mode since I slept all day yesterday and the day before. I gotta fix this most f'd up circadian rhythm though...next interview in a few days.

Option A - pretend like I'm on call and stay up all night and all day tomorrow (HAHA! NOT!)
Option B - tranquilize myself with the half bottle of NyQuil I got left
Option C - get real drunk and pass out
Option D - Do option B and then option C
Option E - Do option D in reverse order
Option F - Read step 2CS book and fall asleep

I do like option C though; although, I haven't had alcohol at my place for almost a month. I'm gonna have to rectify this situation.

This kid on 60 Minutes is amazing. 12 year old musical genius - sounds like Mozart in that he hears music in his mind, fully written, without any effort. He can write it down as fast as he can.

He can turn music upside down and perform it. He started writing things at age 2 even for instruments he had never heard before. "It comes out right the first time" he says.

I just saw that. He writes pieces he can't even play yet he's able to get it down on paper. Seems a bit backward to me. Beethoven and Mozart were virtuosos on the pianoforte.

P.S. I predict that he won't be a MLB player. Just a hunch.

He seems to have a decent talent. Anyone who can flip the Hammerklavier (or whatever it was) upside down and sight read it has some talent there. He said he wasn't that interested in playing as he was in writing the music. He'll be interesting when he gets older and figures things out a little better.

But yes, it's definitely backwards. His brain must be somewhat altered that it just speaks in music unlike any others. Probably had brain damage during childbirth!

I was worried, watching him on that show, that he is going to have a nervous breakdown at some point since he can't stop the music in his head. That's like the kind of person who puts a curling iron in their ear to try to stop it.

God help us if he becomes a typical teenage "rebel" and decides he wants to rap.

He was also playing it backwards!

And he will still be playing it backwards when he is in a padded cell at the age of 24, rocking back and forth clutching his knees and humming loudly what he claims is a monumental sextet for violin, viola, cello, oboe, xylophone, and saxophone.

I get into St. Louis and the Cartman song, "In the ghetto", plays through my mind. Chicago will probably be the same.

"In the ghettoooo...on a cold and grey Chicago morning, another little baby child was born in the ghetto...(falsetto) in the ghetto....and the momma cried....cuz if there's one thing that she don't need is another little baby mouth to feed in the ghettooo.....(falsetto) in the ghetoooo..."

Ha! I had a similar thought. I drove from the Northwestern campus to the U Chi campus after my NW interview last year, and ended up at a hotel with all kinds of bars on the windows and the parking garage.

Boring!?!? Never! I overrule Andy and say you are welcome anytime. Besides, we were having a good conversation in the lounge about why both women and men are equally annoying.

I enjoy it, the cold weather. (that is my french-canadian way of saying it - my great grandmother always ended her sentences like that - she would construct a normal sentence but substitute the object or the subject with a pronoun, then put the object or subject in at the end after a pause. "I think he's a good person, my doctor" "I like that, cheese.")

Cold weather makes one feel alive. A biting wind whipping across your face. None of this humidity and sweating business. And I think cold weather makes people sexier. Bathing suits are too easy.

We went out to lunch today with the candidate and the other resident and I were talking about where we wanted to go. His choice: Sushi or Indian food. My choice: Anything but sushi or indian food. We let the candidate decide. His choice: Burgers. 👍 👍 A 4 star candidate.

p.s. Jennifer Garner is HOT

Thank you for that love! (BOOYAH ANDY 😛 ) And I would tend to agree with the candidate ... i'm not a fan of indian or sushi. He was a godsend for YOU today!

Yes JG is the hottest woman alive and I strive to be like her :meanie: ALIAS AND ELEKTRA within 1.5 weeks of each other .. what EVER will I do?

I think we should outlaw dumb people ... but them in a little box and box them up! Send them to ... hmmm ... where could we send them ... I'd say Bancock but that isn't a funny joke right now ...

keep on keepin' on! 👍

Send them to LA with all the other dumb people. :meanie:

The other resident was surprised I didn't like Indian or Sushi. I asked what his next choice was, since the first two weren't my idea of a nice lunch. He responded, "Thai." 🙄 Thai food is ok, but not my idea of tasty. Then he said I must not like "ethnic food." WTF? I like German food!

german=ethnic ... you just don't like asian food. LOL

I like a lot of Japanese food. Just not sushi.

I am just not a huge fan of spicy food. I don't need all those hot spices - I spend the entire meal drinking water trying to cool my oral cavity down. I guess I have a bland palate. If that makes me uncultured and unsophisticated, fine. But why do you need to sweat while you eat and avoid tasty but simple fare to be sophisticated?

German food is so good...there is a restaurant near here and I have been there enough over the past few months to have gone through about 90% of the entrees. And I have gone through almost all of the beers except the Schwarzbier.

Dinkel Acher = good.
St Pauli Girl surprised me - never knew it was so good!

Well, all us snooty path peeps do is go to the lounge and take our inherent talent for derailing threads with us, anyway 😉

yaah said:

Some of us eat it because it's what we grew up with 😛 No sweat!

I guess I should learn to say that I like ethnic cuisine, instead of saying that I eat anything (like a goat). Sounds classier. 🙄

Why is it that I go all day trying to find someone to go have sushi with me in vain, only that I come here and find people chattering about sushi.... again.

I thought I hated it too, but there we are. The schwarzbier looks scary though. I would be tempted to get it but it probably comes in a gigantic stein and there would be too much of it if I didn't care for it. It looks like motor oil (Schwarz=black).

I am not part German. I am 1/2 polish and the rest is a mix of Irish and french canadian. Most of my extended family always seemed to prefer american beer. shudder.

My schwartz is bigger than yours ... 😛

American beer ... bah ... I drink it but I can't find a beer that I like ... 🙁 I need to go beer hunting and wine hunting as well ... that sounds like FUN!

Scary as in like a bomb went off in there. I'm occasionally there, usually lurking and laughing my behind off. kinetic is something else. Have yet to figure out what HMTHYKII stands for... presumably there was a HMTHYKI. And I didn't even peek to figure out how to spell it!

So ... what does all think about the Indian ocean situation? Any guesstimates? 🙁 So sad ... Funny thing is ... here on the east coast there is a huge inactive fault ... since they think that this earthquake could have moved us off of rotation, who's to say it wouldn't trigger more force on the the other faults of the world? Big earthquake here in Jersey! NICE!

I don't know anything about the Indian Ocean. But I love Indian food. I'll wolf down a plate of vindaloo anyday!

There are many shadow lurkers to the Pathology forum. 🙂

Yaah, I must say that I'm disappointed in you:

- Cold weather >>> hot weather????
- A decided lack of love for spicy food?

Where is the yaah that I've known all my life??! Where?
