Hmm. I wonder if your high-traffic is my high-traffic. I don't really mind, but one of my soon-to-be-ex-housemates likes to keep the blinds closed. In the living room. All the frickin' time. What a total waste of sun!

This is basically what I do. I love the sun too but hate the people looking at me more than I love the sun. 🙂 If I want to be in the sun I will just go outside and take a walk or something.

OK...it's friday night. Why are we on SDN?

Because SDN = virtual crack!

Some of my friends were going out tonight, but I stayed home, because:
1) I'm a dork
2) I'm "working on my thesis seminar" (which means SDN)

Yeah, I was supposed to go out too but I'm feeling under the weather. Plus, I finished tossing all my junk and putting all the books and other non-tossable junk in my car for my drive to Maryland.

Oh yeah...and I'm a dork too 🙂

Hail to the United Federation of Dorks! 🙄

Sorry you're not feeling well again! That stinks. I got over my mudbutt. 🙂

When are you leaving town? That sounds like a long drive.

Yep...I think there are at least two strains of the flu going around in my lab building. This illness was kinda short lived though...I'm past the worst of it. I just didn't want to go out drinking tonight because I wanted to be fully recovered and well rested before my drive. So it's all good.

Ann Arbor to DC is about 8 hours. 7 hours if I drive really fast.

That's not too bad I guess. Just one day. I was just looking at DC on the new satellite maps at maps.google.com. Cool stuff.

I dread the drive from Ann Arbor to Boston in a few months. I think that's supposed to take like 12 hours. Now THAT is gonna suck

Yeah, that's long. I think I would have to break that up into two days - but at the same time, I always just want to get wherever I'm going. 🙂

I really want to stay within driving distance of my hometown for my residency. I just looked on mapquest and Ann Arbor is 750 miles away - not really realistic driving distance. 🙁 Unfortunately there are a limited number of programs within driving distance of Nebraska.

But..but....yaah is in Ann Arbor!

Seriously though, 750 miles is the approximate distance between A2 and Boston. Yet, I'm too impatient to break that drive up into two days.

Big day's coming up on Monday right? You ready to kick ass and take numbers?

I know this!! Of course, yaah is too impatient and has his new lady friend. Probably the only way I will end up within driving distance is if I stay here (or possibly Wash U). For some reason it is extremely important to my mom that I be within driving distance. She will get very upset if I go somewhere else, but I think I might, just because of sheer probability. Oh, and of course, yaah is in Ann Arbor.

Yep, Monday is the big day!! I hope I kick ass. I just hope my committee doesn't keep me in there too long. I still have a ton of work to do on my seminar, but it should be ok. I've already planned some parties for afterwards, so hopefully I didn't jinx myself. Also, some friends got me a nice laser pointer with "beary, Ph.D." engraved on it. Again, really nice, but I feel like I'm pushing it.

you'll do fine. the committee wouldn't have let you go this far if they thought things could go wrong. the defense will be a formality for you. 🙂

According to your map, that's if you go via London and not Cleveland. 🙂 Is that why it says "Canada Friggin 12 hours" right in the middle?
yeah, if it was through cleveland it would be more like 16 hours. but i have to drive through f*cking canada  if i wanna save some time.

Maybe they'll hold you up 2 hours at the checkpoint coming in, and another 2 hours at the checkpoint going out? :meanie:

It doesn't take 16 hours to go through Cleveland - I almost thought it was quicker, because when I was driving there was so much **** in my car that I dreaded having to stop at customs or something and have them search. Plus, the backups are long. So I went US-80 instead of US-90. It isn't that much longer. My trip I think from North Shore of Boston to AA was 12-13 hours I think, via cleveland.

Beary, AA is close enough to where you live! Plus, it's almost easier to get here than anywhere else because it's only 25 minutes from the Detroit airport from which you can fly everywhere.

And yes, I am not a dork because I didn't post all day yesterday. 😉 Actually I tried after I got home last night from dropping her off at her car at like 11pm, but the server was down. 😳

I was at this ghetto as hell bar yesterday that had a wi-fi sign up. p-**** told me that it was a good thing I didn't have my tablet PC with me. I have a hard time imagining sitting in that bar with my computer. To get there, we had to wade through homeless people and drunk kids. Earlier at dinner, our waiter asked us how we wanted the bill split up. He was like "Is it you two and you two, or the guys and the girls on separate checks? This is Olympia, you know." I bet saying things like that to out-of-towners does not go over too well.

I like waiters like that, just get to the point. They should probably just put everything on separate checks as a default setting and combine if necessary.

I wasn't expecting it though, because it was a family mexican restaurant. We got 4 separate checks anyway. I told the waiter that we were "undecided".

All you need is someone either 1) good at math or 2) someone who will just pick up the rest of the tab or the tip when people start arguing about who owes what. I fall under both #1 and #2, I always just end up saying, "screw it, I'll pay the rest."

Well that's good to hear. I'm gonna have a ton of **** in my car as it is when I make the drive. I guess my trigonometry skillz were off.

I am afraid of them flying things. But I could fly from Detroit to Nebraska with no problemo. Detroit to Tokyo or something - that would be a problem. 🙂

My mom is so afraid of them flying things that she will not fly anywhere, period. So is this genetic, or environmental? 😕

probably a little bit of both. it's multifactorial.

It gets unworkable when multiple people want to pay their part on their debit card. And, if the waitstaff is willing to break it up, they usually wind up with a larger tip overall. So if they are willing to do it, I just go with it.

The first time I flew on a plane I didn't enjoy it. I didn't hate it but it just felt odd. Now it reminds me of being on a small boat. I 😍 being in small motor boats when the waves and wakes carry you up and down. And it's really fun to motor across the water. The hum of the engine makes me content. Mmmm. I need to figure out when I am supposed to go to my uncle's to go fishing. I totally forgot about that.

No, it's delusional. There are many more things to be afraid of than planes. 🙂 Has anything ever happened to her on a plane or is it just being worried?

Do you yell at girls when they cry yaah? As a sort of psychological therapy?

That's a different situation. I am not sure I have ever made anyone cry, to be honest. At least not in front of me.
