Yeah but people always have this **** eating grin on their face when they talk about it. Unless they are the type of person who is revolted by autopsies. Then they get a cringe on their face. Of course, this coming month I am an autopsier again, so I can't really argue with them.

Driving back to DC after graduation and the weekend but I don't actually move into Boston for good until let's say the middle of or late June.

I figured my arrival date in Mpls was timed perfectly when there were as many people telling me to arrive earlier as there were telling me to arrive later.

Has the path forum been unusually dead lately? Maybe it just seems that way to me. I guess too that we are sort of in a lull between folks graduating and residency starting.

Happened last year too at this time - people often have a lot going on over the end of may until july begins. It isn't long before the new application cycle starts though and we get a lot of new threads creating asking if anyone knows anything about one of the NYC programs.

ITP was kinda interesting though. Perhaps it was seeing the words "Giant platelets" on the path report alongside of a platelet count of 5 and wondering what giant platelets looked like.

It is so great to see future pathologists so happy to start residency. Most of the rest of the poor saps have an internship ahead of them!
 
I have a month of micro in July. 🙁 Micro is ok, but the rotation is a bit annoying because we have to do daily presentations to the ID clinical rounding team, and no one is really that helpful in finding good topics. August, however, I do GI/GU 😍
 
Daily presentations? Ouch. I remember for renal biopsy rounds (happened q2weekly) the nephropath fellow would get fed-up because whaddaya know, it's another lupus case.

I was in the General Residency Issues forum.... looks like this is peak burn-out time for interns.

And then I come here and look at all of you and I think - no internship year. Are you guys brilliant or what?

I have a hard time wishing an internship year on my worst enemy.

Well, the limiting factor is getting all of my furniture and utilities set up.

For instance, let's take cable TV. To get that set up, I need a new TV. But that's the thing, I'm going to be investing a lot of time and energy to ensure that I not only buy a TV but that I buy a kickass TV. Basically, I been looking at these HDTV LCD flat panel TVs. Problem though...they are damn expensive. If I take the plunge and buy one, it will essentially wipe out a huge chunk of my savings.

I'm actually burned out. I look forward to the next month of doing a whole lot of nothing. I'm not even thinking about July!

I am glad that I don't have internship to look forward to though. Poor bastards :laugh:

I made the executive decision nearly a year ago now that there will be no indian food on this forum. Indian food is not good. If you want spiciness, I suggest some nice Mexican food or perhaps some red hot cinnamon balls.

I have spent what seems like 80% of my life justifying my dislike of Indian food to people. As I have asked many a time before, why in heck is it "boring" to dislike indian food when it is not considered boring if you don't like italian food? People seem to think that any food which is not stereotypically american is exotic and therefore anyone who doesn't like it is dull, uninteresting, and afraid to try new things. Well, I have tried indian food on dozens of occasions and have never failed to be unimpressed. There is no flavor. There is no texture. Much of it is spicy, yes, but spicy in the absence of flavor is pointless. I have tried MANY different indian dishes, both home cooked and restaurant, and the above applies to all of them.

I state that all of you who insist on always wanting indian food are boring and have a problem with your taste buds. You should be able to enjoy your food. If you enjoy it, fine, I can't stop you nor can I argue with you. But stop trying to get me to like it because it is NOT going to work!!

not all indian food is spicy. a lot of indian food is "mush". but i like the flavors, not only in the spicy dishes, but also in the non-spicy dishes. i love how it mixes well with the basmati rice. i love how it meshes well with the various types of naan.

indian food isn't for everyone. the flavors are quite unique. and clearly it's not for yaah since he's a big ***** who can't handle spicy food. just kidding. either that or when you've had indian food, you had sh*tty indian food.

Yep. Everyone always says that. You haven't had good indian food then... Well I have had homecooked stuff that other people tell me is "the best indian food I have ever had" and I have been to restaurants which are "the best indian food around" and I have been to crappy ones too and I can't tell the difference. It's all very boring and unexciting.

How long have you been doing it, and what is the environment like?

Have you had to drain an elbow abcess on a crack ***** yet? Have you seen the uninsured patient who has an itchy rash in her "special place"? What about the guy who is convinced he's having a heart attack, but it's just GERD, and not now you have to play this conversational game so he and his whole family don't feel like idiots for coming to the ER at 3:00 in the morning? The person with back pain who's from out-of-town and his normal doc prescribes oxycontin except he can't reach him (percocet's don't touch th epain, you understand)? ER can be fun, but there's so much crap to wade through.
 
My favorite moments from the ER always include stuff like

Why are you making me wait?
I have an emergency - my throat is sore.
You're making me wait because I'm Latina.
I am allergic to Toradol.


Dull. Dull. My Dad does ER and for some reason he likes it, but I can't spend more than about 20 minutes in there before I feel like my brain is melting.
