Yes!! The loser part, but no celebrating is involved at any time in med school. I guess at the end of every rotation.
no way man. you've done overnight call right? i'm sure you have.

haven't you finished working up a patient and finished writing up that long ass H&P at 3 in the morning, raised your arms in relief and triumph thining that you could finally get a few hours of shut-eye before morning rounds...and then to have your pager go off just as you lay down in bed. yeah, that's kinda like what that idiot Lance Armstrong wannabe felt during that race.

I have a whole bunch more ahead of me too. 😡

You're right. That scenario didn't really occur to me.

Andy - when you say you preview later in the day, what does that mean? late afternoon? early evening? late evening?

Depends on when you finish tucking in your specimens. Today, I finished processing and dictating my placentas at 6 pm. I previewed until about 8 pm then I came home. Granted, today was by many people's standards, an easy day but I'm pretty new to all of this and hence I worked very inefficiently today. Live and learn.

All of you who have just started residencies - tell us how it is! I am very anxious for stories!

Hey Beary!!! How are you holding up with the rotations??????

Hey guys let us know how the residencies are progressing.......!!!!!

Veritas vos liberabit...Latin for "The truth comes out when people are drinking beers." geddy = gunner. 'nuff said. bing bing bing bing bing. j/k no real stories or controversies yet.

I'm starting out real slow but it really is true, the learning curve is steep and you get accustomed to how things work rather quickly. geddy, you need to ditch heme. vag path is where it's at, baby!

Now, now Andy... I think everyone here knows who the gunner is (where's Harbster when I need him?). 😀 I'm a gunner in the same way that Clouseau is a police inspector. The learning curve is really steep in path, but there are defintie benefits. For example, no intern year baby. Oh yeah.

The closet gunner has now come out of the closet.

*applause*

P.S. Harbster has fallen victim to the Dark Side of the non-clinical medicine force. He's in rads and his ass ain't comin' back to save your ass.

P.P.S. It's 7 am now. You better hop on your first bus or you'll be late for conference

Thanks quant!!! Right now I am on surg path and it is a BLAST. I love the people and love the work. I am very very happy that I am going into path.

Unfortunately this rotation is only four weeks, so have surgery soon... :scared:

Yeah. I think this every day on the bus home. My list of things to read about is probably 14 pages long at this point.

Somewhere near the top is "How to do a bone marrow biopsy".

I find it unfortunate that at some institutions pathologists do bone marrow biopsies. This is probably my most hated procedure in all of world of clinical medicine. This is embarrassing, but I actually have had vasovagal episodes twice while watching these - I think it is the sound of the bone crunching.

If you want to talk about embarrassing, I never saw one until I came here. The basic technique seems fairly straightforward - prior to seeing it in person I had scanned the cheatsheet and just about freaked out.

There are lots of more disgusting places to hear bone crunching. Peds Emerg comes to mind. Now THAT is a loud crunch :scared:

Lots of bone crunching in the autopsy room. 😉

I have seen a few autopsies and that bone crunching didn't bother me a bit. I just must have some weird thing about bone marrow biopsies.

I dunno. I'd have to put rectal disimpactions above bone marrow biopsies though. Of course, I've never done one before...the one time a resident "offered" to "let" me do one, I put on my Cartman mask and retorted, "Rectal disimpactions is where I draw the line. SCREW YOU GUYS! I'm going home."

Boohoo. Cry me a frickin' river. The things I need to read totals somewhere around several thousand pages. It's called f*ckin' Sternberg. Look into it. 😉

I have never done a rectal disimpaction either. When I was on IM, our team had to do a whole bunch, but my classmate had to do all of them because he had long fingers. I'm serious.

what idiot decided that golf is fun? i mean, think about it. you use a stick to hit a ball far. then you chase after it. once you get to the ball, you hit it again! what the hell? what assclown decided to invent this game? it's like playing fetch WITH YOURSELF!

i'm just kidding. golf is actually fun. especially when you have a cooler full of beer in your golf cart. it's quite comical too. like when your friend hits a really bad shot. he yells out "Fore!" while you shout to your friend, "you stupid f*ck!"

Oh don't get so salty now. Tell your PD about your concerns and I'm sure he'll pat you on the head while saying, "It's OK, you won't be in the sandbox for too long."

Ah yes, the wonders of microbiology. I left early yesterday to go to a Stuart Weitzman shoe sale. I will be leaving early Wednesday to go to a Kate Spade special customer sale. My husband REALLY wants me on a more time consuming rotation. 😀

I fling a meconium-stained placenta in your general direction!

Have your first lovely attempt at a membrane roll with extra slimy membranes yet? Try Bouin's. It can be your friend! 😉

Initially, the membrane rolls were a pain in the ass. But it didn't take long for me to get a system down...it gets quicker every time. Didn't know about the Bouin's trick. But in any case, my week of placentas are over...no more placentas until 6 weeks from now. I'll miss the fact, though, that is was a relatively light week

Yeah, this is always a light few weeks for babies because no one has sex around thanksgiving time.

Actually, sex two days after thanksgiving will give you a baby born August 12. I have actual physical proof of this.

Maybe people are too drunk on Halloween, or use better protection?

I think Thanksgiving may have a higher rate of booty-taking because you are among family, which is stressful, and among alcohol, which lowers inhibitions. We will have to track this. I do know that the first two weeks of February produce a plethora of babies due to the city's Fiesta party thing which is held mid to late April.

Maybe the ones with kids have to take them trick or treating and the ones without keep getting interrupted by the doorbell.

Your parents must be kinky.

I think I was concieved on my dad's birthday. One of my college roomates was concieved in the bathroom of a plane, while flying over Germany. Well, at least the stage was set for her conception.
