I'm not much of a celebrity awards show person. Got off work at 7:30, picked my sister up at 9 from work...came home and waiting on the wings to get done in the oven, cracked open a beer and watching Netflix with the two boys before bed 🙂

And just curious...but where does everyone get their scrubs from? I'd like to have a pair of bottoms that have at least one back and two side pockets...tops with pockets would be nice too!

I order Cherokee workwear online.

I had dinner with an aunt and uncle I don't see often last night. Uncle appears to be the type of person who things vets are super wealthy and they up charge everything excessively to rip people off. Tried to talk to him about it (he was convinced that vets make more than MD's do? I don't even know), and he called me a liar 🙄 Thankfully, these aren't people I'm particularly close with and the family I am close with are super supportive, but that was annoying.

He's the kind of person that likes to belabor a point, so I know this will be a thing he brings up every. single. time. I see him for a while. On the plus side, he'll probably be too preoccupied with this to ask me (keeping in mind I am 23 and single and very content to stay this way) for the millionth time when I'm going to settle down and get married?

I'm so happy he used his speech to bring awareness to the subject of global climate change and environmental protection! I was already happy for him, but that made me 100000X's more happy :biglove:

i actually have no idea what people are talking about...no cable then, no cable now...
Full house wasn't on cable, I think it was on nbc or abc.

I watched full house a lot. Yesterday I asked my son if he had netflicks, and when he said yes, I asked if we could watch fuller house. He said absolutely not. Then he went downstairs to eat lunch, so I watched fuller house. I was halfway through the second episode when he came back up. He "scolded" me, then sat down and watched 2 more episodes! That kid Max is pretty funny. I don't know what vet goes to work in a nice dress and high heels though.

or goes by Dr. DJ, DVM? Seriously. The portrayal of vets on the show makes me cringe

Not surprised... as soon as I heard that they made DJ a veterinarian, I had a feeling I was going to be angry at the show, so I haven't watched it. Except that I'm a Netflix addict, and I'll run out of episodes on my current shows eventually and probably will watch it anyway though.

I have today and tomorrow off so I'm finally getting my rabbit in at the exotics practice to get her ear infection dealt with. Kind of dreading the bill though. Last time I took her in for a health issue it cost over $200. I've budgeted a similar amount assuming she'll need at least an ear cytology and some antibiotics/possibly probiotics so I'm hoping that will be the extent of what the vet recommends. If not, I might have to get choosy about which medical things my nine year old rabbit really needs addressed immediately.

Outside of having some stinky thick rabbit pus in one ear, she's still moving around well for an ancient rabbit (in human years she's like 70), eating well, pooping well, breathing well, etc. Also no weird lumps or bumps.

Fun bit: The secretary thought I was scheduling an appointment for a different rabbit named Asche because she probably thought this rabbit should be dead by now. She was "impressed."

What does your smartwatch do that's helpful in a vet setting (or personal)? I'm curious because it's one piece of tech that I keep looking at and thinking "I don't see the point to it."‎
I just went to charge my watch and suddenly remembered I'd mentioned updating this thread later... I freaking love it. I regularly get through the day with >80% of my phone's battery because I almost never need to open it, I can glance down and delete stupid emails on the spot, control music, respond to test messages, etc.

It's definitely one of those things I could have lived my whole life without, but now when I don't have it on, I feel a little naked and am constantly glancing at my wrist.

It's Netflix!
I don't have that either..

Yeah we just didn't watch much TV (really any )growing up

So I have a body pillow across the top of my bed for the sole purpose of so my cat can sleep there. Yeah, she's spoiled, but she's old so whatevs.

Lately I've been waking up a ton at night (not even from her being annoying!), and when I do it freaks her out sometimes and if I don't pet her she gets up and starts meowing. I sleep facing away from her on my side, so I usually just stretch my top arm back up to her side of the pillow and give her a pat.

My bicep on that side has been hurting the past few days. I'm 99% sure it's because of said above actions. I strained my muscle petting my cat.

I think I've cemented my crazy cat lady status now.

Is anyone crafty/creative in like a Pinterest kind of fashion? I'm trying to come up with ideas for a shadow box or something for a co-worker.

She cut off a good chunk of her thumb while using a microtome, and the ER didn't reattach it so she brought it back to the lab and fixed it in a jar of formalin. I've been wanting to process it and cut some slides that I can get stained a few different colors, but have no idea what to do with it at that point.
Anyone have any suggestions or tips, etc?

We should have some kind of award for weirdest post on here. I feel like this one would be in the running for sure...

I dunno about weirdest post, but can I be in the running for weirdest possession?

I still have my umbilical cord from when I was born. My mom kept all four of ours and always had it hidden with her valuables. My siblings and I would remember once in a while and fish them out and play with it some, comparing each other's going "ew!" And then we'd put it away for a few years. It's like the size of a small grape, all dried out and petrified.

Keeping the cord is or at least was very common in Japan, so we didn't think much of it. I don't know if anyone really understands why. Both my sister and sister-in-law gave birth in Japan within the last 5 years, so I should ask them if they were offered the umbilical cords for my niece and nephew at the hospital.

It's probably the stump that dries up and falls off about a week after the baby is born, not a separate piece offered to them by the hospital.

You're right that it's the stump from the baby's end. But it def was something officially offered by the hospital in a special little box and all.

It's like a clay paw print after a euthanasia. Something the hospital offers each baby.

That's interesting that they offer you a special box to keep the stump in. It is a gross looking thing. Do you know what the significance is that they ascribe to keeping it?

If you're processing them in the way I'm imagining, you could rig a pre-made shadow box with some small LED lights. Put some rice paper or wax paper (something to diffuse the light) in front. Affix the slides to that paper with some sticky metal picture holders (see here). Have a piece of matte board cut to finish it off professionally.

Visually, I'm imagining the slides being back lit and having a stained-glass appearance.

Any tips on settling what could be a future disagreement on who gets the smallest bedroom in a house? It's already agreed I'd get either the master or the biggest room in the house (which is not the master, surprisingly) because I have a 4x4 rabbit cage I need room for. Neither of the other two roomies want to end up with the smallest room. Rent per person would reflect room size somehow, but I don't know how to get us to come to an agreement where everyone is happy. We haven't signed yet, but if we end up taking too long to settle, we could lose the place.

Well then start the bidding on the bigger room at $50 more than the other. Someone will agree to pay more; how much it increases is up to them. Or a fight to the death.

We had this issue. It was sort of funny because I would have taken one of the smaller rooms due to my financial constraints but they pushed for me to have the master because I was the only one with a bf. I said I'd only take it for $25 over what it would be if we split it evenly because the rent we were going to pay was already over what I had originally wanted. And god do I miss that room now. The master bath was a huge plus.

But who got what room ended up being based on the how much they were willing to pay so the bidding method sounds good to me.

I'm liking the second option.

The only thing about bidding is that I'm not willing to pay more than $600 (so I'm assuming $600 for the master, $500 for the biggest room, $400 for the smallest for the total $1500). So if they turn around and end up saying I need to pay more than that to keep the master and appease whoever gets stuck with the smaller room, i'm SOL there. I personally don't think $200 more than a smaller room is totally fair either, it just seems like a lot. Offering garage space isn't worth much to anyone it seems. My boyfriend suggested calculating the price per square foot and figuring out the rent difference that way, but it still doesn't solve the who-gets-what problem.

Haha. All those look like great prices to me (I was paying $825 for my master). But I get you. Which is why I was just upfront and said I will not pay more than this and if they had an issue with that, then it's not my problem because I had been upfront about how much I wanted to pay to begin with. And $200 seems like a lot to me too. I think we had $50 difference between our rooms but they were all pretty decent in size.

I'm guessing the master has a bathroom and the big/little rooms share? (Or something about it that makes it more desirable given the higher cost for a smaller room)

It sounds like you don't care because you feel like you have the rabbit pass. Which isn't fair either.

Honestly, I would personally propose you pay $500 for the big room. The master becomes $625 or $650, and the small room becomes $375 or $350.

That would be fairest for everyone involved IMO. Then the bid would be between the most and least desirable rooms so your cost wouldn't be affected.

What's the difference between the master and the biggest? I've seen apartments where the master and the bigger room are basically the same size, one just had its own bathroom. If that's the case, I'd do more of $575 for the master, $525 for the biggest, and then $425 for the smallest.

I think $150 less for the smallest room than the master would be fair and then you're not the only one paying more if the biggest room is about the size of the master.

If the biggest and master are way different, I think the 600/500/400 breakdown you have would be the way to go.

Thanks so much. Yeah we'll have to sit down and play around with the numbers after next week's final. Rent here really is quite reasonable, so I'm happy about that.

Neither of them actually want the master, so that's why I'm a little removed from the disagreement. I want it, even knowing that I'd pay the most, but I'm not willing to pay $200 more than a slightly smaller room just because I have a bathroom. If you go by square footage, the biggest room is still bigger than the master (bathroom and closet included). I was thinking $450-500-550, with the master being $550 (because I feel like that would appease the other two who do have to share a bathroom). The other two aren't going to want to pay $625ish if I offer to change rooms because they don't want to go that high either. The other two can have the garage space, it doesn't matter to me at all. It would help if the house wasn't cut so weird, lol.

The master has a bathroom/sink plus a nice walk in closet. The biggest room is still bigger than the master (by how much exactly, I don't know). I didn't get a good look at the closet in the biggest room because the current tenant's dog was in there and scared.

How long will you be living there? We had the same problem with my house once, and what we did was switched every year. So if I got the master bedroom one year, my roomie would get it the next year. And moving rooms was good roommate bonding time 🙂 it worked well for us!

If the biggest room is bigger than the master, I think the own bathroom/larger closest thing kind of evens out with the size then. I'd do like $550 for both the master and the biggest room then and then $400 for the smallest.

Then no one can really complain, cause it's not that much more than just splitting it evenly 3 ways and the smallest room still gets to pay less.

Or if the smallest room isn't like half the size or something of the others, I think making the smallest room be the one with garage parking (I feel like that would be handy in Illinois in the winter?), would make splitting evenly fair, too....

I don't know. I was always like "whatever" when I had roommates about who got what rooms so maybe others won't think own bath room vs biggest room vs garage parking would be an even split haha

if they fight to the death, you will have a new problem... 😉

And this is why I don't want roommates! I doubt I'd be good with more than one person anyway.
I'd love/hate living alone. It's expensive, that's for sure. I'd also be horribly antisocial and never go out and do anything. I'm the type of person that tends to go if her roommates are going.

Ideally the next 3 years! I thought of that, but I really cannot be in the smallest room. My rabbit literally won't fit unless I got a twin bed, which wouldn't work for when my boyfriend visits (he's part of the reason I want the master...so he can feel comfortable in visiting). I'd have to keep his cage in the common areas, and he can be messy (he likes to kick his poop out....). That probably wouldn't be a big problem, but I'm already having issues keeping my two cats cooped up at night in my current room size. One of our roommates currently has no pets to use as a bartering tool, but intends on getting a dog again I'm sure. The other roommate has a small cat who spends most of her time in my room now anyways, lol.

The good thing is that we do have a half bath too, so it's not like sharing a bathroom is going to be 100% annoying all of the time for them. I definitely want everyone to feel comfortable with whatever decisions end up being made.

If they're not happy with 600-500-400, why would they even want to consider 550-500-450? That only serves your interests...

We haven't even talked numbers yet, I'm just throwing stuff out there. I have to agree to this too, so it does matter how much I am willing to pay for either larger room (which will likely be the master since they don't want it). Plus, if the other two get the garage spots, that's worth something too. It's going to take a lot of tweaking I think.

We're waiting on the rental company to get back to us on how the current tenants have things split up.

I really don't want one next year, because I kind of want my own space (aka not having to wear pants all the time), but I also hate being alone so I sort of want one. I'd love to have a non-vet person so I'm looking at that as an option. Where I'm going, it's seems to be significantly cheaper (like rent as low as $425/room) for 2BR+ places versus studio/1BR at $850-1200. I did find a 2BR place I really like by picture for $850 and includes water and has parking and a fenced yard. I feel like I'd pay that by myself, maybe make the extra room nice and I could sublet/rent it out as an air bnb type deal.

I hate having dreams about work, but last night I had a dream that someone wanted to bring in their pet earthworm to the clinic I work at, and we agreed to see it. Unfortunately I woke up before I found out what was wrong with the worm or what we were going to do for it.

One of my coworkers was showing me this iPad game that her daughter plays... pet doctor or something like that. One of the patients that you have to "treat" is an earthworm who got himself tied in a knot.

This creeps me out a bit, since it involves giving a relative stranger the keys to my place - but it could be pretty awesome if you live somewhere that would work for that. It's like, what vet schools are in locations that would get a lot of airbnb traffic? College game day aside, I don't think many have prime locations for stuff like that. Hmm. Maybe UPenn? Minnesota?
