Random Stuffs

My two dogs are very different in appearance and over winter break it was a variation of “Simba no Apple- Addy!”

I do regret having two with the same first letter, makes it even easier to mix it up.
I brought home a kitten that has the same coloration as my brother's cat, and decided to name her a name that 1) starts with the same letter, and 2) has the same number of syllables. I don't know what I was thinking and I wish someone had stopped me.

I'm not sure it even matters. My kids, husband, pets, and goats all have very different names. That does not stop me from reaching for the wrong name, often enough, even the wrong category.

This candle has been well loved. Bought my new one, and even though I know I have a few hours left on my old one I really want to light the new one. It's a little bit like a fresh jar of peanut butter or something. It's so perfect *must ruin it*

I do the same thing with my two cats! They don't even look alike either.

I find I have to over-enunciate the sounds in the middle to get them to respond to their own names in the presence of the other one. And then because of this, when people come over and just say their names normally, they think the fluffs don't recognize their names.

Genuinely curious-what is everyone’s opinion of HSUS. I’ve been under the impression that they’re not nearly as bad as PETA, but I haven’t been as involved in the policy side of things. Just things like RAVS and Pets for Life.

Personally I think they're really problematic, because people think they're associated with local Humane Society's throughout the US, so donate to them thinking they're supporting shelters. But only a very small amount of money donated to the HSUS actually goes to local HS or shelters. Most of the money donated to them is spent on advertising and campaigns. They have a pretty abysmal rating on CharityWatch due to how their money is spent. I think it's also a very recent switch for RAVS to be under Pets for Life/HSUS? RAVS use to be under HSVMA.

If someone wants to donate, they should donate to their local HS, shelter, AC, etc. Whatever entity actually directly works with homeless animals in their community. Their donation will be far better utilized and actually support shelters directly.

And like DVMD said, they're really not any different than PETA, and are associated with PETA pretty closely.

HSUS is far from perfect (read: definitely not an organization I get particularly jazzed about) but is not equivalent to PETA from what I have observed/in my opinion. HSUS broadly leans more toward the animal welfare side of things vs. animal rights side of things. PETA is hardcore in animal rights territory.

I feel that HSUS is PETA-lite, and PETA is ALF-lite, and there have been reports of money flowing between these entities for years. Some of that money includes paying legal fees for those who have assaulted biomedical researchers that use animals in research, or arsonists setting fire to labs, etc.

Sadly, the least biased and most useful article I could find in 30 seconds was their Wikipedia page. Humane Society of the United States - Wikipedia

Overall, I think they're sketchy AF and as an organization opposes a lot of fundemental aspects of animal welfare.

HSVMA is the veterinary medicine branch of the HSUS.

I mean there’s also the fact that an executive from PETA is married to one from HSUS
