I told my dog to 'turn around' when she got up to the back door - an important step in checking for dingleberries before allowing her back inside.

Promptly began belting out some Bonnie Tyler and now it's stuck in my head.

Turn around, I gotta check your hiney 'cause you get dingleberries and you leave them on the floor...
Turn around, I really need to see so you just have to do it before I open up the door...

Yup and now I have this song in my head.... :meh:

Having weird anxiety for the past two days. Like I'm forgetting something or that I'm running out of time. It's very weird. I have a lot due this week, but I think I'm on top of everything...I dunno. It's just...weird (have I used this word enough?). Blegh.

Finals week is the best time to get a foster dog. Right? Right????

Get up the courage to email someone for a letter of rec...out of the office auto-reply. Aauughh.

I emailed a professor for a LOR last week... I thought I had built a good relationship as a good student. But, no reply...

I made myself beef stroganoff last night. I'm very much looking forward to my lunch today!!!

For some reason that reminded me of a mandelbrot set. I remember learning about this in algebra and had totally forgotten it until now. I can't believe I was able to find it online, not having a clue what it was called anymore!

DVMD, it's sucking me in....trying to tear my eyes away.....

and I've worn yoga pants every day this week. zero ****s given.

(not the same pair, different...in case that wasn't clear...)

Wouldn't judge if they were the same pair. This is vet school now we're talking about.

This will probably get mentioned in the Doctor Who WW thread, but there's a really cute and fun game on Google for the 50th Anniversary. You can pick which Doctor to play as! Always gonna be a 10th Doctor fan myself. 🙂

I just checked my mailbox and found mail for one of the vets who works at the teaching hospital. I have lived next door to her for 2 and a half freaking years and never knew it because I have only seen her in passing like 5 times. Now I have to deliver her mail and pretend I don't know her, or fess up and have an awkward conversation about the CVM or something... It's probably not that big of a deal but I just can't believe I never realized it was her, and we have lived under the same roof for years.

curious - does anyone elses (vet) schools sequester exams so you are not allowed to review the actual exam and see what you missed?

I think we've gotten all of ours back. We do sometimes only get the scantron back, but they usually put a key up somewhere so you can see which numbers you got wrong, which isn't super helpful when you don't remember which question it went to.

The professors or their secretaries always keep ours. We get the scantrons back and can go ask to look at our exams and the answer keys but don't get to keep anything with questions on it. It's been that way since first year.

That's a school policy? Interesting. Not the case here. It's at professor discretion, so some profs let us keep our exams.
before this semester, we used to have a 10 minute review period at the end of each exam where you could grade your answers, review what you missed, and submit challenges. as far as i know, the medical school has never had that option. since switching entirely to computer based exams, the schools official policy is that all exams are sequestered and students are not ever allowed to review them (including during office hours - but professors can go over the concepts and such as they see appropriate).

just curious what other policies are because a lot of people are really unhappy about this change. truthfully its very unhelpful for classes where things are cumulative, but given the way the exam taking is currently set up, there really is no good way to release answers. there is an option for professors to reveal answers at the end of an exam, but then you end up with people viewing the answers in front of people who are still test taking. and yes, it would be very, very easy for students to cheat that way given the room set up unfortunately.

Aw. Sad day...just found out Dr. James Steele passed away 2 weeks ago. He was one of the many reasons I decided to pursue a career in veterinary public health. Such an insanely awesome man--lucky enough to have met him twice and listen to him lecture (he was professor emeritus at my graduate school). I have his biography around here somewhere: "One Man, One Medicine, One Health." So many accomplishments...I guess that's what happens when you live to 100. RIP, Dr. Steele. I hope to carry on in your footsteps.

Watching Mansfield Park. It's really strange seeing Billie Piper in something other than Dr. Who.

I have a ten mile race in a week and haven't run more than five in like... two months. I'm really not sure what I was thinking signing up for this right after finals. I'm posting this here because I'm not really rant-y about it, but it's going to suck a little bit.

You'll be okay. I did a half marathon earlier this semester only having ran about 8 miles in training. I messed my knee up pretty bad but I made it! Good luck!! 🙂

"Cell Hell" -- I snickered out loud! At my school, our intro biochemistry class is listed as Bi/Ch 110, so you know exactly how everyone pronounces that...

Well, they call it Cell Hell because the one professor that teaches it is so intelligent that she makes you feel stupid constantly.

It's sort of like being a 3 year old trying to talk to Stephen Hawking.

But that biochemistry title makes my day.

Heh, my UG had the same thing. BICH 410 & 411. It was also in the biochem building which is technically biochemistry & biophysics, or biobio, but people often just referred to it as the b*$!^ building.

Aw man, those are the worst kind of smart people. The ones that obviously aced the subject material all their lives, and cannot wrap their heads around the fact that a room full of newbies might be struggling with such basic concepts.

Incidentally, I've had dinner with Stephen Hawking. He happens to be quite nice, a little funny, and not at all belittling. Granted, I peaced out when the conversation turned to physics and everything else my brain doesn't do. 🙄

You had dinner with Stephen Hawking?

That's so cool!

But that link... xD

I am sure many of you have seen the video of the exploding sperm whale.....

I thinks someone needs to put that to Queen's "Under Pressure"....

Here is the video in case anyone is wondering (WARNING: not for those with a weak stomach, though I think most people here will be fine just figured I should give warning).
