I trust clinics are crazy times! Maybe fabric glue would be quicker? This is actually really cute. But clinics does not allow for DIY projects...although I am on a lighter rotation.

I think it was $1 from target! I actually removed the back of the stocking also to help decrease bulk. I was going to sew the backs of the stockings onto the back of the sweater, but the kid vetoed that idea. It's possible. And I'm pretty sure my mom uses the penguin stocking on your shirt as my dog's or either my guinea pigs' stocking for Christmas.
Most of the fourth years on my current rotation seem extremely nervous and scared around the clinicians on the service. One actually burst into tears when called on during rounds, but I have a feeling it was NAVLE related since she just got back and seemed upset before rounds anyways. I feel so awkward 😕 One of the residents has a pretty bad rep, but I didn't think it would be like this.
Is it a good idea to say? I don't want to trash talk and reveal potential identities lol. I personally haven't felt nervous around this clinician, but she's also not judging me like she would a 4th year.Sheesh. What rotation are you on?
Haha wasn't trying to trash talk, don't answer that. There are some rotations at our school that are definitely more hardcore than others and I was curious what it was like elsewhere. I've still never felt like I was walking on eggshells or close to tears, though, that sounds no fun.Is it a good idea to say? I don't want to trash talk and reveal potential identities lol. Yeah as for the tears, it really was just a "tell me about your patient" question and she just broke down and started crying. She sat for boards yesterday so I was thinking it may have been related to that. But anyone someone calls on one of the fourth years, they respond with a "Yes ma'am? 😕😱" kind of response. I haven't seen that on any other rotation thus far!Haha wasn't trying to trash talk, don't answer that. Yeah it was a pretty severe response to a very non-tense situation, so that's why I'm thinking something else was going on. No one had a confused or shocked look on their face though, so I'm wondering if something happened prior to me getting there. It was her first day on this rotation block, too.I have to say I've never felt like crying from a clinician yet even the one with the "unacceptable " commet. Sure some make me a little more tense and more likely to go blank because I get flustered and can't think logically, but not to the point of a breakdown.

Yep, and I believe we are the only school that does. We are on the quarter system here. One quarter in both first and second year is devoted to clinical rotations. We don't have quite as much responsibility as the fourth years do, but we get to see it all.You guys have rotations before 4th year?
Well, any school that does 2+2 does as well (Mizzou and Western come to mind). I believe Western does 1st & 2nd year rotations as well.Yep, and I believe we are the only school that does.
Yarp. Okstate does a second year intro to clinics where you follow 4th years through each rotation for a total of x amount of hours. Gets you familiar with the hospital and where things are and what you will be expected to accomplish in your own fourth year.Well, any school that does 2+2 does as well (Mizzou and Western come to mind). Looking at their curriculums on their websites, we're still the only school that does what we do. It looks like Oklahoma has a 1 credit class mixed in with didactic lectures, and then the 2+2 curriculums just have a full two years of clinics. We have 8 weeks of just rotations each year with no didactic lectures. I guess you can say it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other if you want, but no other school sends first/second years on an entire quarter of strictly clinical rotationsn. Western says they have a few hours of clinical work a week. I think PBC's question was referring to the fact that I'm on a full rotation schedule as a first year, but maybe I misinterpreted haha.Yarp. ETA: Just to expand a bit, a lot of our rotation is devoted to learning relevant skills, too. Since I'm on surgery, I've learned how to suture/suture patterns, how to scrub/gown/glove and prep patients for surgery, etc. On equine, we did leg bandaging. On ER, we did catheter placement and CPR. There's a lot more than that, but I'm blanking right now.
As a first year, knowing how to suture is pretty cool. That being said, we cram in a semester's worth of material into one quarter so we stay on track. That, and clinicians expect quite a lot of you come fourth year.

First heard them on A Prairie Home Companion. Loved them from that moment on.I've been listening to a lot of Wailin' Jennys. Those ladies are fantastic.
I'm not sure if this is a normal reaction, but as I'm assembling my large animal mobile kits for my car, all I can think is: "I'm really well prepared for a disaster/apocalypase". I've got surgical kits, sutures, antibiotics, steroids, pain medications, needles, syringes....
Animorphs!? 😛I just read "apomorphine" as "apomorphies". Well played, organic evolution... Well played.
OMG I FORGOT ABOUT ANIMORPHS!!!!Animorphs!? 😛
I still have one of those books on my bookshelf. Gives me the nostalgias every time I see it.OMG I FORGOT ABOUT ANIMORPHS!!!!

I personally would rather just have an extra semester as an upperclassman on clinics, but that's just me! It is nice to have a quarter away from sitting in a lecture hall.
Honestly, I am just waiting for your school to catch on that the first year rotations really don't help and to drop them like a hot potato.

Hmmm...a writing project! 😀I have them all in PDF and read a couple a few months back when there were rumors of a potential movie. I want them to be rewritten for grownups, they're kind of painful to read now and it makes me sad. ._.
Get on it!OMG... Animorphs WW???
Get on it!
Yeah that's what I said. And now I'm baby modding and have 80% of a game done...I'm too much of a noob to create a good WW!! maybe after a few more games... 🙂
Also...a WW game idea!!
I have physical copies of at least 40 of them sitting on a shelf at my parents' house. I reread a few a couple years ago and you're right, they are a bit painful now. It doesn't help that there's like a full chapter rehashing the entire background in every single book. That being said, I know I haven't read them all because I had trouble as a kid finding some of the mid-later series ones.I have them all in PDF and read a couple a few months back when there were rumors of a potential movie. What about the one where Tobias is a bird of prey and Rachel is a cat and she like... spies on some alien hologram. I remember it pointed out that she could see better in pitch blackness than in dim light (as a cat) and I was like, "That doesn't seem right..."
What always killed me that their knees reversed when they morphed. Like, I get it, alien technology and it doesn't have to follow phylogenetic rules.... but animals don't have reversed knees!

The books are written from the POV of teenagers who likely have a limited grasp of anatomy.
I guess I don't remember that part...
I want a starter kit... or maybe I just need to noob mod... just to see how the spreadsheets and balancing the games and all that work... then I think I have enough of a game worked up to make it happen, but I wanna know I did it right first and that would take some hand holding, cause I'm a wuss and don't want to hear crap about noobs making games unless it's completely unjustified hazing. (Aka, I wanna be awesome first time out)Yeah that's what I said. And now I'm baby modding and have 80% of a game done...
