The thing about opening a vet school in Vermont is you all have to be okay with the fact that Vermonters call soft serve “creemees”
We can put in the student handbook that that’s forbidden for the rest of their lives.

Edit: Also extra layer of disappointment because the person that is behind the post that I saw (basically calling for people to contact the school) is a vet
this vet literally commented on MY social media post of me announcing i got into UCD going on about how i should do something about their use of large animals for terminal surgeries....had to hide the comment bc god forbid im excited to go to my dream school🫠 also pretty sure she's a UCD grad too

She has interesting.... opinions. Such as no one should eat animal protein and that the Westminster dog show is evil <3

UMN doesn’t advertise it but some electives have terminals (or did when I was accepted and asked about it). I think it’s still much more common in large animal programs and small animal people tend to get *upset* about it. I have my own personal feelings but I’m also not the queen of ethics and can see the pros to it and would never **** on someone for taking the opportunity/wanting the knowledge.

Yep that's the one! It's fine to be vegan of course and have opinions but from the very, very little I now know about her, she's bordering on quackery, or at least has just unhinged levels of opinions. And like to tell an incoming first year to 'do something' about it? Like obviously the school has ignored you for over a decade lady

I THINK I KNOW WHO THIS IS! 👀

Separate rant, but I really hate how the zoo field destroys the good ones and somehow those that maybe shouldn't be in this field are constantly coddled/enabled so they stick around forever.

Just sent a job posting at my zoo to someone who I think is one of the best ever only for her to say 'Yeah I'm actually thinking about leaving zoos entirely at this point....' ugh.

Happens way too often both in the process to get into the field and also once you're there...hurts my soul

I got this sentiment from one of the vets at one of our zoos when I did an externship. He was super excited I was into the welfare competition and so we walked around the zoo for 3 hours discussing areas of improvement and such. And it kinda turned into why zoo med is hard both to break into and then to stay. He referenced the "good old boys club" vibes to it.

okay so if every single person on this website donates $5, i will open a school in vermont. raise your hand if you wanna be the dean. raise your hand if you wanna be in charge of the cirriculum. raise your hand if you want your name on a fancy plaque on the walkway into the building.
Once I'm done with vet school and residency I'll happily head up that department! I want the department dedicated to my dog who is my "why" instead of the plaque though. Or perhaps both a plaque and the department, I'll donate $15.

As a current Tufts student and a UVM alum, I approve @vampyrica's proposal

In all seriousness, we need more vet school in New England. When I talk to my people in Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island, or Maine, they don't have an option of an in-state. And Vermont would benefit immensely from a vet school. UVM currently definitely does not have the infrastructure for it. Up until late last year, there was one emergency pet hospital in all of Vermont (a VEG and VPP are opening soon).

Also the fact that it is UVM not UVT is in fact stupid. The reason that I was given was that the name in latin is Universitas Viridis Montis literally meaning university of the green mountains.

Can I be chancellor of creemees or was that already taken?

Feeling so frustrated with a certain organization and their rep at our school who are actively trying to shut down the large animal terminal surgery elective at our school. It is circling social media now too *sigh*
I havent seen the social media stuff yet but NOOOOOO. That class is so awesome and valuable.

Congrats to everyone who got into vet school this cycle, and to those who are waitlisted or reapplying, good luck, you’ve got this!

I wanted to bring attention to Florida SB 796, which proposes creating a Veterinary Professional Associate (VPA) role. As written, the bill would allow master’s-level VPAs to perform procedures like surgeries, dentals, and prescribe medications.

(You might have studied this for interviews, this type of bill previously passed in Colorado, and Florida may be next.)

Current UF veterinary students started a public petition opposing the bill after the latest senate committee voted in favor of it. Even if you’re not in Florida, legislation like this could influence what other states do in the future.

If you have a minute, please read about it and decide where you stand. If you oppose it, consider signing and sharing with friends, family, coworkers, and on social media, since we have very limited time to get signatures. If you’re a Florida resident, contacting your county senator also helps.

ESD's over here being serious in contrast to me declaring myself the cheese chancellor
Cheese gives me migraines but I support you!

Department requirements will include puppy snuggling and kitty booping when permitted. And mandatory brunch rounds.

As a large animal vet who took this class... it's sooooo important. WSU has already hemorrhaged so much of its large animal curriculum, genuinely would not recommend it for wannabe LA vets anymore if cost wasn't a factor.

Hello can I be the assistant vice chancellor on cheese
I’m not sharing my salary. But if there’s room in the budget, I will accept an assistant vice chancellor of cheese to share my cheesy workload. But the wieners need to come to work with you.

You didn’t want to be the big cheese and I don’t want to be the vice cheese. I want to be the assistant vice cheese because that’s even LESS responsibilities. Hell, I’ll even take a lower salary of half yours.

Is Dr. Ramm and McConnell not still doing their stuff? Took some stuff with Wertz but know he was having some health issues. I took alot of their LA rotations and extra curriculars. Felt pretty good coming out but I know things change. I was way more ruminant focused than Eq though and only took Eq sx rotation.

Preaching to the effing choir.

I found out my abuser (who also abused over a decades worth of staff and despite formal complaints is still treated like a god and only just got fired last year) has a job at Audobon center for birds of prey in Florida and I’m big mad about it.

Idk what it is about zoo culture that loves to suck the dicks of the absolute worst people meanwhile does not value others

I'd be down to teach. Always loved Vermont lol
