RANT HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just need to rant this to people who will understand (disclaimer: not looking for medical advice).

My dog won't poop!!!!!! 😡 Roc, the dog that was sick over the weekend has been doing 10x better and at this point I am thinking that it was some odd stomach bug, but of course would feel 100x better if he would just ****e. He has not gone #2 since Sunday morning 🙁 Granted I have been feeding him very small meals, but I would still think by now he could manage a small poop just for me. I have even been singing him poop songs to try to encourage the poopy! I have been talking him on extended walks to encourage it as well - nothing...... ARGH!!! I have a call into the vet to see if an enema is necessary, but he does not seem uncomfortable just doesn't have to go. I still am a worry wort.

Just had to get that out.... sorry 🙄

Just so you know, most of us 2015ers haven't even been told who our little is. I've got all of my class notes and stuff together and ready to hand over to whoever ends up being "assigned" to me. Last year, we didn't hear about our big/little situation until about this time. I'm about to e-mail Lynnette because I'd like to get to know whoever my little is going to be

I have to learn how to drive the forklift after lunch. D:

Eh, my big sib is kind of AWOL. I heard from her once last Wednesday, emailed her back on Thursday, and she has yet to get back to me. I have a feeling that she's not going to be of much help. 🙁

We'll just be each other's 😉

I emailed her this morning so we'll see what she says. You are one of the only other UFL people on here so I'm always happy to see when you chime in 😀

ok guys so why do you want to pay over 80k dollars in tuition and fees to go to a US veterinary school when you could go to a cheaper school in the Caribbean or overseas where they'll be more seats and less competitive to get into? I mean once you're done there you could come back to the US get your license, practice and have less debt! What do you guys think? Agree or disagree and feel free to leave your viewpoint.

Maybe you should do more research... It is no cheaper to go to a school in the UK/EU or Australia then in the US and it is no less competitive either. I am not sure that the Caribbean is that much cheaper either once you consider flights and living expenses. And any vet schools that you would consider outside of those that are not AVMA accredited are not worth applying to because the licensing process and the amount of funds you would have to spend in order to take the tests necessary would negate the amount of money you would save.

Because its not cheaper, I would rather be in a place where I'm not ridiculously far away from people I like and foods I'm accustomed to, and there aren't more seats...possibly less competition but competition pushes me to be my best and not settle for being good enough

Disagree. Have you looked at the costs of international programs? Airfare? Cost of living? Fees/procedure to get a license to practice in the US if your international school isn't accredited?

I think you're putting the cart before the horse. You need to get through at least a semester of college before you're really going to have a sense of what kind of student you're going to be (and therefore how competitive an applicant, in part). It's good that you're motivated and have direction, but you've got to take care of freshman year.

I think so the cost largely depends on what kind of country you're going to. The user with the armored dog, is right schools in MDCs like Europe, Canada and Australia would be more expensive but that's also because their currency is worth more than ours. I've been doing research on schools only in the Caribbean and on the sub-Indian continent and I'm sorry for not clarifying from the start. But say you go to Pakistan where a dollar to them is like 85 dollars to us, it would be more beneficial. The oldest college in Asia is only $1600/year, it's called UVAS in Lahore, Pakistan check it out if guys want. Sure they're not accredited and thus there are more procedures and complications to adhere but I think it would be better to spend 1600/year and pay for the extra complications than pay $22k a year. Especially in a rough econmy like this where college kids are finding it a hard time to pay loans. Just food for thought, I'm not saying you should go there but I'm trying to foster some opinions.

I would recommend checking out the veterinary section where they talk about licensing for foreigners from non-accredited schools. It is not an easy process and it is extremely costly. Also this is not the best thread for this discussion. This is the "rant thread" for off topic discussion on rants in everyday life. The vast majority of people in this forum want to go to AVMA accredited schools so they can easily practice medicine in the US if they choose, so I am not sure you are going to get many people to discuss this topic or look into those options.

Pakistan is probably out of the question for this lily white Irish-American. I'd like to save some tuition money, but I'm also fairly certain I don't want to have my head chopped off on a camcorder video.

Rant: Ex boyfriend being annoying little s*** 😡

1. What's the quality of the program in Pakistan? Is it going to teach you to be a good veterinarian? I have no knowledge of this program, but I think it's a question worth asking, especially since it's not accredited here. I don't mind paying (for the next 25 years) for a quality education that will train me to be the kind of veterinarian I want to be. YMMV.

2. It's relatively easy to get loans to cover the cost of veterinary school in the United States. I imagine it's not so easy to get a loan to cover the cost of the exams and fees to get a license. That's going to be a large outlay of cash at the end of years of being a full-time student. I don't think you have a good understanding of what one has to do to get a US license if one attended a non-accredited program. A veterinarian I worked with opted to repeat veterinary school in the US instead of go through the licensing nightmare.

3. Personally, I'd rather not be a veterinarian than live in Pakistan. Obviously, this varies person to person, but I somehow doubt most of the people on this forum are eager to move to that area of the world.

oh ok thanks Devyn, I'll take your word for that it's more costly to go overseas rather than going to school in the United States and it's a long and difficult process. I'll consider just staying in the states. Thank you to everyone who contributed an opinion.

They don't mind Americans in Pakistan, I actually went there last summer and many people could just tell that I was American by the fact that I was wearing jeans, shorts and spoke English only. I respect if you don't want to live in Pakistan, in a matter of fact I really wouldn't either given the third world conditions of the country that I could go on and on about but it's still an option I would consider. Good luck guys hopefully you can get into the school you want.

The state department says No.

"The presence of al-Qaida, Taliban elements, and indigenous militant sectarian groups poses a potential danger to U.S. citizens throughout Pakistan. Terrorists regularly attack civilian, government, and foreign targets. The Government of Pakistan maintains heightened security measures, particularly in the major cities. Threat reporting indicates terrorist groups continue to seek opportunities to attack locations where U.S. citizens and Westerners are known to congregate or visit, such as shopping areas, hotels, clubs and restaurants, places of worship, schools, and outdoor recreation events. Terrorists have disguised themselves as Pakistani security personnel to gain access to targeted areas. Some media reports have falsely identified U.S. diplomats – and to a lesser extent U.S. and other Western journalists and non-governmental organization workers - as being intelligence operatives or private security personnel.

Since January 2010, terrorists have executed coordinated attacks with multiple operatives using portable weaponry such as guns, grenades, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), suicide vests, and car bombs in Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. Recent attacks included armed assaults on heavily guarded sites such as the naval air base in Karachi, the U.S. Consulate in Peshawar, police offices in Lahore and Karachi, military installations in Lahore, religious shrines including the Data Darbar shrine in Lahore and the Baba Farid Ganj Shakar shrine in southern Punjab, religious processions in Lahore, a hospital in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and a food distribution center in Bajaur Agency."

Wow I'm speechless. When I went there last year I never witnessed any violence perhaps it's due to the recent tensions stirred from Osama's death and the 24 Pakistanis who died from a drone attack. Thank you for sharing this, I guess they were more tolerable of me and my dad because we looked like them.

👍 😀 thanks!

I was supposed to take a midterm for my online class today, and the professor (who is on vacation and not reachable for comment) sent the final.

Was reaching under a table to grab something and when I came back up I losty balance and banged/scraped my head on this cardboard box. I now have a blood bubble at my hairline

So someday I'll get over this... But this damn ex thing keeps springing up and kicking me in the balls (metaphorical balls of course)! Apparently the ex is going to drive 3 hours to go see this girl (who I'm pretty sure is the reason he finally dumped me) and spend the weekend with her. Now, this is the same guy who when I was house sitting 20 freaking minutes away would only come up once or twice during the week I was there. I am so freaking angry right now. Just feel like I was lied to for so long, he obviously didn't really like me that much if he's willing to go way out of his way to see this girl. Just... UGHHHHHHH. What a freaking waste of 3 years.

I'm sorry WC. To me it just means he wasn't right for you🙁 You'll find someone who would travel halfway across the world to see you

First off, I'm sorry Wildcat. It totally sucks and my ex was actually kind of the same way. We were only together for like 5 months, but I was the one always visiting him, granted I didn't really mind cause PSU is way more fun than my town. However, I've found out a lot of it had to do with him not being completely over his ex, which kind of sucks cause I was never trying to force him into a relationship but basically wanted to know what our "rules" were in regards to seeing other people. He made it a relationship, so I blame him. We've somehow managed to get past everything and are really good friends. Honestly, I don't know how it happened, but everything is basically the same except we can see other people if we want. I got lucky in that sense I guess, but it also shows that I wasn't as involved as you were with your ex, which definitely makes it wayyyy harder. If it was my other ex, it would be a whole different story. That one took me probably a full year to get over. Started doing better like 8 months post break up but still not that great. Keep your head up and PM me if you want someone to talk to.

For my rant, someone got a hold of my debit card number yesterday and decided to attempt to spend around $1000. Pretty much would have wiped out my account. Luckily only $400 or so was authorized before my account was flagged...And when my bank called, instead of saying this is "so and so bank" they just say this is your financial institution , which made me think it was a fraudulent call since any other time banks have called me they've always mentioned what bank it was. Now I have to wait like 10 days or so until I get that $400 back.

I hear ya. I feel like I wasted 4 of mine too... Just remember that your ass didn't stay with him LONGER than that. In the grand scheme of things, 3 years is 3 years, and I'm sure you had a lot of happy times during them too. (Dear lawd, I hope so!) Move on, sistafriend. 😛

(Disclaimer: I am not a southern baptist woman, despite the fact that I sounded like one in the above comment.)

Despite my antibiotics, my cat bites (several starting on my hand to my elbow) that I sustained, were getting infected. My hand was swollen and red and hurt like a mo fo. Another trip to the ER, IV antibiotics, anti inflammatory shot, stronger antibiotics and some pain killers and it's finally getting better. Still swollen and sore but much better.

It pisses me off when girls I know bitch and moan to me about their boyfriends "wrongdoings." First of all, you're being effing crazy! Secondly, maybe you should just be grateful that this guy is willing to stay with you even though you're always being effing crazy and not complain to the person who hasn't been in a relationship in years. Thirdly, don't tell me what to do or what I should be doing to get into a relationship. Maybe I don't want to be in one because of the drama that goes along with it...so maybe you should stop complaining and criticizing me and instead focus on you.

Just came home so excited to see my little ones and I am in shock over their treatment by a FELLOW VET STUDENT.

1) The water bowls were all either empty or disgusting. Clearly not cleaned or refilled in the 12 days.
2) There were chewed on empty food containers, chinese food mustard packets partially eaten, and a can of cat food.
3) Not surprisingly, there was diarrhea everywhere. I mean, one of my dogs has IBD and can't even eat normal dog food let alone leftover human food.
4) The cat litter hadn't been cleaned in days after I specifically said the dogs will eat the cat poo if not cleaned daily.
5) The dogs were running free in the house which they are not supposed to do alone, since it increased their anxiety (and leads to guess what... GI problems).
6) Less seriously but an indication of lack of care: garbage cans were left out from 2 days ago, the sink was full of dirty dishes, and the house smelled.
7) More seriously, all 3 of my pets lost a significant amount of weight (I asked to weigh them every few days to be sure that didn't happen).

I mean this a person who I paid to live in my house to give my pets a high standard of care, and is going to be a vet for freakin sake. I mean if there is diarrhea all over the place don't you clean it up, and more importantly do something about it... like take it to the vet.

It is clear to me the dogs were on no schedule at all, which anyone who knows the first thing about dog care would realize is an invitation to trouble not to mention leave goddamn food out.

I am so upset right now. Maybe I am wrong to expect anything better from my future colleagues, but this is the first time I have been let down by a fellow-vet student.

I would be LIVID!!!!!!!! I worry incessantly about having to leave my dog with someone who has never taken care of her, and I thought that when I get into vet school at least I'll be surrounded by people that care about and are responsible with animals........ That really sucks SOV. I hope they feel better soon

I would be pissed and demanding my money back. Seriously, this person is supposed to be a vet in the future. I wouldn't even leave open food around someone else's house even if there weren't dogs around. That is just disrespectful. Hope your dogs start feeling better soon.

Glad to see you back. I hope you had a great vacation despite the disaster you came home to.

Well at least you know which colleague never to refer to or trust your future patients' care with. Unfortunately there's always a few of those everywhere. Sorry your poor animals had to get the brunt of it 🙁

Sounds like this person can barely take care of themselves, let alone other living things. (Garbage, dishes, food everywhere)... Gross. Sorry, dude.

I seriously cannot wait to move out. I am sick of dealing with drama when i am almost never the one that causes it. FML

SOV, I am absolutely horrified for you. That is terrible to come home too!! I can't believe a fellow vet student would do that!!! Especially someone that you PAID to live in your home and take care of your pets. I am so sorry you came back from your trip to a situation like that. That's the last thing you want to worry about when you're away. Ugh, stuff like this makes me irate. I am angry and it's not even my pets!!! Sorry SOV 🙁

Not cool. Not cool at all. Vet student or not, most of that should be common sense. Pups must be ecstatic mom and dad are home.

Poor babies. Hope they put the weight back on and the GI issues subside soon 🙁
