That sounds awful, DVMD. 🙁 Just get the hell out of there. Since this is technically for a course, do you get to write evals or provide feedback at all? I would hate for this to be happening every year to students when they have essentially no choice in the matter. 😡

There is a book that we can keep a record of all the placements and the student can write feedback, so I can definitely add a warning about this place to other students, but that is about all I can do. We are required to find the experiences on our own, the school really does not have much involvement in the process although there have been some extreme cases where the farm was so bad they have said students can't go there. Basically, we email/call the farmer, set up the time for EMS and then we submit the information online for approval. The school then approves it or not, usually they approve it.

I leave tomorrow morning, thank dog.

Today has just sucked. It started with leaving for work late, having people not let me on the freeway, and then being tailgated all the way here. We then had a client bring in their 4 year old mastiff that had passed away but she was soaking wet and hemorraging from her nose. Getting that big of a dog into a bag is hard enough without having to try to avoid getting blood everywhere. The doctors proceeded to get upset over stuff I couldn't help, and finally had 2 euthanasias today. It's only 1:30 and I'm ready to go home.

Let my founder prone horse on some lush grass for a couple hours today thinking it would be okay since he has been on a green wheat/rye mix all winter... Came home to find him favoring his left front foot and its a little warm 🙁

Why is it that the people who are LEAST capable of debating a controversial matter civilly are the ones who ALWAYS go looking for debates on social media websites? :bang:

Stupid is as stupid does. I learned long ago to pick my battles carefully online. Don't argue with idiots - they drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

 so do stairs as I found out :uhno:

I'm really sorry, but this still made me giggle.

😉. It's cool. My fiancé calls me "Crash" bc all I do is hurt myself. His parents bought a new boat and got me a personal first aid kit for it. 🙄 All I can ever do is laugh anymore bc it's just so ridiculous how often I hurt myself. Breaking my foot is really really inconvenient though. And surprisingly painful 🙁.

You sound just like my sister. She is a master at injuring herself...or maybe just has awful luck, who knows?

I was just icing my foot with my aircast off and my SO got the dog all hyper and crazy. 70lb dog leaps directly onto my foot, I scream, so he uses said foot as his launching bad to jump back down. It hurt 20 times worse than when I broke it yesterday. Here is a pic right after I broke it yesterday and the nice blue one is from just now. Enjoy 😉

I know this. I really really do. But every so often someone comes along and says something so incredibly stupid that I can't hold myself back from trying to correct them. And it always goes the same way. It's like watching your favorite movie for the hundredth time - you know exactly what's going to happen, but it's still funny every single time. For example:

1.) Other person makes wild claim on Facebook status, usually fishing for "likes"
2.) I respond and calmly explain why wild claim is incorrect.
3.) Other person uses the one or two half-baked arguments they've picked up from the media headlines.
4.) I refute arguments, usually citing sources.
5.) Other person devolves into name calling and mud slinging because they've run out of useful things to contribute to the discussion.
6.) I add further points I believe are useful contributions, and often point to parts of the other person's arguments that I actually agree with.
7.) Other person becomes even more infuriated that I'm not fully agreeing with them.

We've reached Step 6 at this point . . . pretty sure we're going to reach the final "Facebook defriending" any minute now. Because, you know, that's totally mature and definitely converts me to your way of thinking. 🙄

Edit: Oh, yup, there it is. Good riddance. smh.

Half-baked is a thing! Actually there's another term I would have preferred to use, but it wouldn't have agreed with the ToS.

I know half-baked is a thing. 🙂

I was thinking that you were meaning to say backed not baked. But I guess an argument can be baked too and not backed.

I was just being silly.

Ouchhhh so sorry Emilio! I have been nicknamed Crash as well... I feel for you!!

Ugg. It drives me crazy when people are so practical they don't understand why someone would do a c-section on a mere pet!😡 Honestly, some people just like their critters! Sure, you can always get another cat, but that isn't the point! I was telling a friend about an interesting case yesterday at work and she was like, "whats the point?" She didn't even find it somewhat interesting even though she is a biology major.

My sister is pregnant. (Yes, this is the correct thread in this case).
Is your sister a teenager or with a guy that's horrible for her? Just trying to figure out why this is a bad thing. I'm sorry you think it is though.

No my sister is one of those that does not have her priorities straight. She can barely care for the 2 kids she does have plus the 3 that he had from a previous relationship. The older of my nieces has some serious speech problems that she needs help with but my sister seems to think the public school system will just somehow take care of it. This same niece (she is 6) is not toilet trained, my sister says that my niece complains that it hurts when she goes to the bathroom but my sister does not take her to the doctor, even though it is free for them because they are on government assistance. My sister also recently received a ticket because my 4 year old niece was found standing in the passenger seat of the vehicle when the cop pulled her over. When my 6 year old niece was first born, my sister decided that his kids needed a video game system and my poor niece didn't have a jacket (this was around Christmas time) and she then didn't have the money to buy her a jacket because it was spent on the video game system.... I bought her a jacket, the poor thing. My sister needs to be spayed, not reproducing more.

I feel you on this. I was talking to my best friend about an oncology vet that spoke with our pre-vet club, and she was like "But what's the point of giving cancer treatments to a dog?" :lame:

Ugh. This drives me nuts. I got flack for spending as much as I did on my dog. Of course you can get another pet but it's not a THAT dog or THAT cat. The one you already have a bond with and are emotionally invested in.

Ooooohhhhh yea, she definitely sounds like a woman who should not be having kids. I'm sorry that you're stuck in that situation because it's family. It's hard to say what's on your mind without possibly losing ties with them completely. Hopefully she'll realize how dumb she's being and turn things around. We can hope at least right?

No worries, I was being silly too. 🙂

My point was that this person looked at some sensationalist media headlines, twisted them even further, and then tried to use them as "proof" in her arguments. I'm being very vague because it is such a controversial issue and I'm sure there are people on both sides of it here on SDN, and I didn't want to accidentally spark an unwanted debate.

Oh holy craps! I was taking a bath, and I noticed this dark line on my foot. I assumed it was a piece of hair, so I tried to swish it away but it stayed. Then I noticed like a mm margin of inflammation around it and freaked out for a sec because all I could think of was cutaneous larval migrans. But I realized how silly that was, and took a better look. Turns out it's an eyelash or eyebrow or pube or something completely embedded under the skin of my foot!!!! Doesn't seem like an ingrown hair from the look of it. How does this happen!?!? ImageUploadedBySDN Mobile1366551742.149874.jpg

That is horrifying, get it out!!!! I totally would have jumped to cutaneous larval migrans too. :barf:

Oh no worries guys. After taking that picture (which shows a lot more redness from me scratching the hell out of it), I took a needle and slashed a little sliver in my skin to get to it and pulled it out. Like literally, there was no exit hole on either end!!!

That happens with my dog's hair!!!
He's got those sharp little razor hairs and I feel like I'm pulling out splinters. Weird. Speaking of feet... Update bc I think it's cool looking! 😀

Teratoma 😱 (That's everyone in my class's favorite pathology thing, haha)

I have a raging headache. I think it's from studying off of my computer all day yesterday. Maybe time to drag out my paper notes (and get off SDN😀) for a bit.

Emiloo - can I have your sheets/bedspread/whatever that colorful thing is?

Teratoma 😱 (That's everyone in my class's favorite pathology thing, haha)

I just learned what these are from my math major bf . . . he sent me a gif of one being cut open. There was hair and teeth growing inside. 😱

we found a teratoma in our chicken necropsy lab last week. They brought us "meat" chickens to do live PEs and blood draws on and then we necropsied the animals (but saved the meat for sale). This probably doesn't happen unless you're at a Caribbean school...

Lord I hope that's sarcasm, TR. I bloody well hate teratomas. They freak me out. My favourite pathology thing is humoral hypercalcemia of malignancy. 😛

I think they creep everyone out:laugh: I meant favorite in that we all would always guess teratoma for any kind of mass for a while there😉 My favorite path thing is anything that isn't path...

Exactly. I hate this so much too. I usually respond "yes, and somebody who loses their child can just have another one, so why save them either?" I love children and understand it would be devastating to lose one, but right now my pets are my children, each complete with his or her own personality, and I can't just "replace" them by going out and adopting another. 😡

Rant (more of a whine): Exams. There is so much I need to learn and a very short period of time in which to do it. It's going to be simultaneously a very long and very short 12 days.

So my cat Shirley *probably* doesn't have FIP. What a day. 🙁

Pottery Barn. It is so opposite of my usual style but I couldn't resist. I love it!

Having that bedspread would make resisting sleep so much harder for me! It looks so comfy and inviting 🙂

Took my dog to the vet this morning since she has been limping on her leg. Just as I feared she has a partial ACL tear. The vet told me to extremely limit her activity for her two weeks, which is not going to be easy since she is a hyper heeler-cattle dog mix that loves to run around. If she is no better in 2 weeks she is going to have to get surgery.

My poor parvo-surviving puppy is back in the hospital for a foreign object in her duodenum 🙁 Here's hoping that all the fluids overnight help it pass without surgery!

She is lucky she is so cute, expensive little thing 😍

She has to get a gastrotomy  I really hope that it is a clear and simple surgery, poor thing has been through so much in the past 3 months.... Have to cancel pre-vet school vacation plans to pay for it too
