After another week of office hours and expensive tutoring, I still don't see anyway I'm not going to fail my exam next week. Especially since I have 3 other exams to worry about. I still can't do literally a single physics problem on my own. It seems like there's a indefinite amount of formulas and I never have any way of knowing which one to use. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time with this still, but I;m about to start crying in the library tbh...

Can you withdraw or take a W?

The first time I took physics in high school I struggled so hard. When I took it in college I started with a tutor on day 1 and got an A- in the class. I think I psyched myself out thinking it was super hard but my tutor really helped me see that many of the equations are merely different versions of others and you can manipulate a problem to get an answer in a completely different way than someone else. And I continued on to study engineering 😕 If you still feel like you're drowning after you see your tutor then you should see someone else that has a different teaching style. Personally I didn't have a lot of faith in the school provided tutors so I went online and found a retired Physics PhD that tutored for fun and we meshed really well.

Yeah, I've thought about getting a private tutor. I pay for a more generalized, less personal tutoring program right now that shows you example problems and concepts, but doesn't do a lot towards answering the many questions I have...I'm sure I'll wait until the last possible moment to withdraw- I havent withdrawn from anything so far at least. Ugh. I just feel so incompetent. Like I want to understand the material so bad, and I just can't.

have you seen about getting a private tutor? I know my school had two different student groups (one the physics majors and the other was an engineering fraternity) that you could contact about it, so maybe yours has a similar thing? one-on-one tutoring might help more for the rest of the class since youd be able to point out where youre getting stuck and they could help you individually.

You can ... but not in a state of feeling emotional and frustrated. You need to come back to the material with a clear head. I also don't think 1 W on your transcript will deny you vet school admission 😉

Yeah, I think im going to look into it. Going to office hours like four times a week isnt helping lol.

you're right haha- but it might push my graduation a semester aha....

There's hope for you. I hated physics. I loved chemistry in undergrad, so when I went to take physics, I thought "well, how hard can this be?!" Ugh. My professor the first time I took physics 1 was sooooooooo bad and I spent the first half of the semester crying. Finally, I dropped it because I wasn't learning and my mental health was suffering badly just over that stupid class. Yeah best decision I ever made. No one ever brought up that one stupid W in an interview or anything (I wouldn't make W's a common occurance though) I retook it the next semester with another professor and had no issues. Same with physics 2. I know it sucks but if I can do it, you can do it.

There's only one professor unfortunately- I don't hate him, but his lectures aren't particularly helpful either. I just want more practice problems tbh. I'll decide by spring break probably- and yeah, it's making gen chem 2 feel easy right now haha (i shouldnt say that, there's an exam wednesday...). Basically I have four exams next week and I dont see any feasible way i can adequately preapre for all of them, so i had a small meltdown earlier....aha..

That's sucks...my school has like 5 lol. Worst comes to worst a C is passing. Community college over the summer is also something to think about...

Yeah at the end of the day physics is just another sucky hoop to jump through...

Have you tried Khan Academy?

I think everybody has their class or subject they struggle with. For me it was any chemistry class (I mostly got Cs in chemistry which I hated). The reason I struggled with physics initially is because I never took a physics class before college and I graduated from high school in 2007 so my basic skill set felt like it was so long ago. Anyways with my Physics 1 and 2 classes I used online tutorials a lot (like Khan Academy which somebody mentioned) and I made sure to buy my textbooks so I had the book answers and the CD tutorials that came with the book. If you have any specific questions let me know. Also if you have any problems please let me know, I ended up enjoying physics because I learned to approach it like a puzzle. I wish you well and let me know if I can help in any way!!

I know, I generally like classes like this because of the puzzle aspect- but it's no fun when I can't figure them out haha. And I may take you up on that tbh

For those of you who were following along on snapchat the other day, I was definitely right about my imminent spiral downward. Gotta initiate self care mode pretty hard this week.
If you liked hugs I would give you one. Are virtual hugs ok? 😛

It makes sense to miss some of that, but not the shared bathrooms, the idiots down the hall playing Halo at 2am, having to take history and government and philosophy classes... writing papers... lol that brings us back to the little animated short. I can only find it on FB...

I was one of the idiots down the hall playing Halo (well usually Super Smash Bros Melee tbh) soooo

I'm so sorry, VMH. I haven't seen your Snapchat, but I've also been having a really tough time lately, and I could definitely to do a better job on the whole self care thing, too. Feel free to PM me here or FB if you need an open, non-judgmental ear.

Me too, girl. Just so stressed right now and it's effecting everything.

Sending you kitty hugs since you like those 😛

I am not on snapchat at all - I don't have it; and I respect everyone's privacy ... no worries.

You've always been a very decent and thoughtful person on SDN and it's obvious that a lot of SDN folks truly care about you. So I hope things get better for you @vetmedhead. Just saying ... I wish you well. 🙂

Why the **** did I think it would be a good idea to try to plan a ****ing wedding while I'm in vet school.

Things are likely getting postponed for financial reasons. And it's fine (sort of). But Mr. Z's family is driving me up the wall about this ****.

Elope and piss them off in a great big way 😉

I don't want to make my mom cry  For once we're on the same page about everything, but his family is just...ugh, don't have time to get into it.

Drive around town and pick up all immediate family. Go to courthouse. I'm just saying . . . Planning is done.

I hope everyone calms down and realizes that you're in freaking vet school. You don't have time for their extra drama.

GET IN LOSER, WE'RE GETTING MARRIED!

Then after just mail slices of cake to Mr. Z's family.

But also, given the VA benefits you mentioned and the inability to get IS because of job hunt troubles, I think it's perfectly fine to postpone your wedding until later. People can be annoying and talk trash all they want but it's not their marriage and it's not their financial future and they don't need to pressure you just because they want your wedding to be convenient for them.

This was pretty much the single reason we didn't elope: so we didn't hurt the feelings of family and friends. But man do I wish we had. I also planned during school, from Canada and I know it sucks.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I planned our wedding during 2nd year and I definitely know how stressful that can be, especially when in laws are putting pressure on you. The important part to remember is the decisions are ultimately up to you and Mr. Z. You're never going to make everyone happy so you may as well start with yourselves. If postponing is going to help with your happiness and stress level - do it. Feel free to message me anytime need to vent. 🙂

Felt really good about a photographer for the wedding, had set up a time to meet with her, and then she tells us she just booked another wedding on our date. Why couldn't she have warned me she had someone else interested?? I hate wedding planning...

WZ, also there's having a wedding for everyone to see, presents, etc but not turning the marriage license into the court house (or just getting that at some other point). And milk the VA for all its worth
This idea did come up. We're considering it.

Update on my spiral (again for those of you not on snapchat): I set my kitchen on fire tonight :hilarious:

(but also it really is okay, the fire stayed confined to one burner and I put it out very quickly with 0 collateral damage to anything, including the burner)

Haha I love cooking, but the amount of times I have set stuff on fire.... As long as you contained the collateral damage you're all good :flame:

(side note I thought that emoji was a house on fire, but it's a flaming princess)

This is actually my first time ever setting anything on fire in the kitchen. :nailbiting:

Wouldn't have been held onto for a year and a half and edited the way it was if it weren't trying to push an agenda. Stop and think of that with every zoo, slaughterhouse, circus, etc clip that you see. May still disagree with the content but taking things immediately at face value is dangerous.
