I tried Halo Top tonight, that stuff is DISGUSTING :annoyed::uhno:
What flavor did you try?

(And also did you eat it straight out of the freezer or let it sit out for a bit?)

What a jerk. Seriously. That just doesn’t seem worth the emotional abuse. Nothing is worth that. As for the rejections...the first school I heard back from was a rejection. A rejection from one school do doesn’t mean anything at another!

Is your state an at-will state? I sure as hell would quit this second without giving any sort of notice and go to someone higher up and tell them what's happening. Yeah, this may currently be your only option for working with animals, but you should NOT suffer through emotional abuse while you're working. Other opportunities will come along for working with animals especially if you look hard enough. And if you can't find a job working with animals right now but need a job for the money, find something in a different field and shadow a veterinarian on your off-time.

Agree agree agree. Abuse is not worth any experience.

First of all, happy Thanksgiving to all who are celebrating today!

Second of all, I am at my boyfriend's cousin's house today, and many of the people here I haven't met before, nor do they know I am applying to vet school this cycle. I heard a conversation just now about how vets are all money hungry cons and I couldn't contain my thoughts so I thought I could come on here to vent. My favorite comments of the convo: "the vet said my cat had tartar build up and wanted 500 dollars for the dental. I said no, I can do this myself, how hard could that be?." And "He was having seizures and they wanted 300 to euthanize him, so I just said screw it, I'm taking him back home to shoot him. Crooks!"

Major sigh. I know this kind of talk is not uncommon but still hurt to hear. I can't wait to see their faces when we go around the table mentioning what we are thankful for, as I will proudly say getting my first acceptenace to veterinary school.

Update: their facial expressions were awesome as they figured out I was sitting in the chair next to them during their anti-vet convo.

But, the best part was after dinner the man who made the dental comment came up to me and started asking me questions about his cats! I was very polite, smiled and said: "I'm sorry, I'm not a vet yet. You should consult with your vet, they can surely advise you. Excuse me but I think they just put out the pecan pie." And then I thoroughly enjoyed that pie.

If I read another thinkpiece from an academic about how banning laptops from the classroom is a wonderful idea and how taking notes on a laptop is terrible, I'm going to reach through the screen and punch them.

I am in an at will state. I really need a job right now as well as benefits so I'd be hesitant to quit before I found something else. But maybe it is time to update my resume and start looking around for something different and get out of this place. Thanks for the reply! I was originally so happy to get this job...but I guess live and learn.
Definitely start looking. And since you're an at will state, I wouldn't give a two weeks notice simply because I have a feeling that this boss will try and make your last two weeks even more miserable if he knows you're quitting. Good luck in the search!!! I hope you find something soon so you can leave that place.

Figures that when I finally allow my mom to drag me to bridal shops, I'd actually fall in love with a discontinued dress. Off the rack for an amazing price, but 4 sizes too small. I could get a corset put in and that would get it to be about 2 sizes too small...feasible but I wasn't planning on overhauling myself physically for this wedding.

Found the same dress in a closer size, but in Missouri. Decisions.

Will they ship it??
And I'm guessing you've checked lots of other places around MI too(I assume you're trying them on in MI and not IL?)

Rant with a mini-rave attached....

The rant: I'm home from school for the weekend. I sent a dog outside to pee a bit ago, and she came back in 10 minutes later with an aural hematoma that she didn't have when she went out. Really Raodi... what the actual heck??

Mini-rave: My amazing vet is squeezing us in on her lunch break tomorrow to fix it before I leave again. I'm going to owe her so many favours...!

I'm still trying to get them to send me pictures of the dress. I'd hate to fork over $900 for a dress I can't see. I'm trying on in MI, but the shop in MO is only about 4 hours from Champaign. Not too bad of a drive...

Needed a place to vent so here it goes.

These past few weeks and especially Thanksgiving break has been rough. School is actually going great for the most part grades wise (silver lining), but everything else in my life seems to want to fall apart. My long term relationship seems to be trying to crumble due to the stresses of vet school despite my best efforts. Financial situation has been really tight and things just keep happenening that need money. My phone is literally on its last leg, my cars engine light came on, and my poor doggo got really sick (she’s better now) so that required attention. And personal problems with some of my family hasn’t helped. It’s just been one thing after another and my stress levels are at their peak and finals start this week.

I just keep reminding myself of the things I’m thankful for (loving parents, amazing friends) and Am hoping things turn around soon.

I'm sorry things are rough :(

Do you have any local auto stores that will read your codes for free? O'Reilly does, but I don't know if you have them nearby. That will at least help you figure out what's going on with your car and if it's something that needs to be addressed immediately or not.

Have you tried the AZ Humane Society (south mountain)? I volunteer there in the summer and they usually have assistant/tech openings. Not sure where you live in the Phoenix area but the AZHS South Mountain campus is in the same area as MCACC, just a little farther south. AZHS has another location in N. Phoenix too.

I actually live closer to the N Phx location, so I have applied for their animal care specialist position. The openings I have seen for the vet techs all require prior vet tech experience, so I will have to go shadow/intern at a clinic before I can apply. I also applied to HALO the other day. Just playing the waiting game now. I will be working on some letters this week to give to the clinics around me to see if any of them will be willing to let me shadow.

Our new member of the family. His name is buck. He's a rescue Maine Coon cat.

We weren't sure how the dogs (we have 3 Samoyeds) would react to his presence. But they got along with him (and vice versa) very quickly.

Soooo the average for my class's most recent midterm was barely a passing grade. Maybe it's just me being a whiny student, but you'd think someone would wonder what the problem was when a decent chunk of my normally academic class starts failing exams once we started third year.

But they haven't! I actually studied really well for this one. I even felt pretty good about it afterwards. This just further proves my 'The harder I study, the worse I do' theory. Maybe I was hallucinating the whole time, as having my first surgery just 3 days prior took a toll on me haha

Seriously, the more I studied the worse I did, it was crazy. I finally gave up and stopped studying so much.

There was one class where I kept getting the same grade on every test regardless of time spent studying.

Exactamundo ;)

jk. The cat's an absolute love. I posted in in the wrong thread..

While I'm here, I suppose I should write something to rant about.

I got of my first boyfriend ever in July of year. We met in July while we were both working in a kids summer camp (as monitors). Great guy. It started out a fantastic relationship. But since I was too busy with my schedule (kickboxing competitions, trying to get the best grades at school, volunteering duties, etc...) and he with his (swimming, preparing for his upcoming career as a singer, school ), let's just say that it unfortunately didn't last too long.

I only wanted to take 1 class, yes 1 class for 3 credit hours I work full time it's all I have time to do...Applied for financial aid and received a loan (awesome more to add to my debt) Accepted said loan and was told just this week I couldn't use it to cover my class since I'm under part time student hours; splendid! Paying out of pocket is awesome!! **** financial aid they have enough of my money already...

My advice for anyone thinking about moving to New York City: DON'T. Holy smokes, the number of hurdles and challenges I am working through just to find a tiny little apartment to live in is absolutely insane. I have lived in 8 different apartments since I left home for college 10 years ago, and combined I have never had the difficulties I am having. There are so many rules! ARGH.

the class average for the last test for one of my historically difficult professors was failing as well. Professor then spent almost an hour lecturing to us about not working hard enough for the exam/ being lazy and entitled. I understand how you feel

I'm getting pretty tired of dodging (or stepping in...) doggy landmines. Whoever is in my block of apartments and isn't cleaning up their dog's **** needs to be fine at this point. I can't even walk to my dumpster without looking like I'm playing hopscotch in the grass.

I'll be really pissed if my foster dog ends up with hooks. Another apartment complex had a massive outbreak of hooks all due to one person not cleaning up. I have to wonder if the apartment complexes have any sort of liability in a situation like that.

Surprise taxi strikes when youre in another country and traveling between different cities. I also don't speak Spanish (beyond ordering food for the most part). Managed to catch our train surprisingly but it's been a stressful day and my sister has been obnoxiously intermittently moody.

So that guy I'v been seeing? The one I really like and really click with? Yeah he broke it off tonight. I am hurt and angry and numb and a wreck.
I'm sorry, Coquette. :( Such a crappy time of year for him to do that, too!

Yeah I know. This was supposed to be the year that I finally had someone to bring to dinner with my parents, that I finally had someone to kiss at midnight on New Year's Eve.

Now I just want to fast forward through the rest of the holidays so I don't smash my television at every "happy couple" ad.

Someone needs to PM me or message me on FB and remind me to make chili Friday night to take to work Saturday. I'm totally worried I'm going to forget, and my techs are counting on it.

Sigh.. I know how you feel. The guy I've been seeing texted me at 5:30 am... He's been acting soo differently the passed few weeks but I've been patient. He apolgized saying that he's not the person I would want to be with... he said he has many flaws such as depression and low self esteem that gets in the way of him expressing how he feels to me. He went on to say that I'm a bright person with an amazing future ahead... he doesn't think he's the right person for me because he needs to continue to work on himself to be the best that he can be. He said he doesn't understand his life right now or in the future.. but he's up to talk sometime next week.... I'm heartbroken and not sure what to do... such a crappy day.. I've been crying throughout :(
