dear boss-

your lack of planning doesn't not constitute my emergency...


It would be so nice to actually be able to say this and walk out, instead of having to work late, yet again, on a Friday to meet a deadline we've known about for months... +pissed+
 
I'm going to court with my bf on Monday to find out whether or not he will be going to jail/deported or not. It's been messing with my emotions all week and I'm getting more upset the closer it gets. :[

I moved to Florida 5 years ago for a reason! I hate how cold its been in Gainesville! 😡
 
awesome emergency night turned into the night from hell. finally was sleepy around 3 so i slept from 3-4. was awakened by the on call phone (one student takes the phone home over night and answers any calls) at 4. 2 vet students who have a 7 yr old dog with a suspected brain tumor whose seizures had been getting worse lately 🙁 so they brought the dog in, and while we were getting valium, the dog started crashing and the owners opted to let him go. so sad and heart breaking even though it was the right thing to do. got back home a little after 5, NEEDED a shower and went back to sleep around 6. got another call at 7:40 (just before i was going to get up and take the phone back for the next shift) about a dog who is "hopping about" after "getting tangled up with a car she was chasing last evening." thankfully for us, the ETA was after 8 and there was no need to wake the other students (and the doctor could finally go home and sleep after a long night). needless to say i spent today sleeping as though it were night!

So I was very diligently working on studying Cell Biology for Tuesday's test and was super proud of myself for the progress I was making...and then I realized that I completely skipped an entire lecture. BLAH.

Hey TT - Heard about this on the news this morning and thought about all of you guys instantly! Hope that all is well - especially since it was the middle of the night. Even though our little unforeseen quake on the east cost happened in the daylight, there are places that the Earth simply should NOT be shaking. Oi!
 
hope this week is big for sdn interview invites! i think this week iowa st should be sending out a wave of invites and possibly k-state? anyone have the inside scoop?
 
Well, me and my husband were both awake. It wasn't bad (oh no, a book fell over!) but it does make me wonder what the hell the Earth is up to. It was the largest ever recorded here. Only a 5.6 but yanno, it's ominous. And I don't particularly like it...

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! It's only the first week of NOVEMBER for Pete's sake! (unless you only applied to one school and most of the invites have gone out for that school, you can't get down about this stuff yet! If that's the case though, I'm very very sorry. But look on the bright side, at least that means you have a ton of time to prepare for next cycle.)
 
Oklahoma is in the midst of having a severe thunderstorm. With tornado watches/warnings all over the place. and we just had ANOTHER 4.7 earthquake. All at the same time.

What is the world coming to?
Even more importantly, will whoever pissed in Mother Nature's cheerios please please please apologize?

ETA: Oh yeah, and now a flash flood warning to top it all off. Debating what's next: tsunami, volcano or locusts

Definitely not too old to be a glee actor. Most of the 'students' are about 25 but the guys who play Puck and Finn are 29. So there's still hope.

See? Your career options are not quite so limited by your advanced age as previously thought! You could romance Rachel on Glee or whatever that annoying girl's name is. Maybe you could be the "edgy" older student who got held back a year?
 
Dear tech I work with,
I don't care what your religious beliefs are. Mine are not the same. And I really don't need you telling me that Sundays are for church. I do not attend church and can go to a theme park on my day off if I choose. I also don't need you admonishing me to watch my language when I swear in the heat of the moment (and not in front of a client).

I feel your pain/worry, bbeventer. The waiting is killing me, especially after hearing about an invite for K-State OOS going out already.

Minnerbelle- I get that we're freaking out, but isn't that the nature of the admissions roller coaster? The UC Davis page just freaked out over a "materials rec'd" letter going out....

Yup, that's the nature of the beast! It's sometimes hard looking back to be as sympathetic as we ought to be because down the road you realize that the *real* challenge comes later. Just like a few years from now I'm pretty sure I'll be laughing at how stressed out I am over exams this week.

But it's definitely too early to freak out over the admissions cycle. I'm pretty sure some/many/most (?) schools didn't notify until January-ish last year, right? It's barely November! 🙂

Best thing you can do is forget about the application and focus on continuing to build experience, finish out school strong, have some fun, etc. Live a bit while you've got the chance. 🙂

Oh relaxing Sundays - how I miss you!

Admissions cycle is really stressful and it's ok to freak out about stuff - it's a pretty big roller coaster. Just don't forget that it's not the WHOLE world - getting into (or rejected from) vet school does not define you as a whole person. You guys are awesome as you are. Take a deep breath and go plan out your "on the way to my interview playlist" (yes, I had one. all very happy peppy songs about how I'm the greatest. Thank you Katy Perry and Gaga for the assistance.)

Amen. I've decided that vet school is sorta like having finals week of undergrad every week or two, except the lectures never really stop just because yer taking exams.

Brb... gotta go fight for my couch in the lounge for the couple hours of sleep I hope to get later tonight. 🙂

My 16 (almost 17) yr old kitty isn't doing well, and none of us can pinpoint exactly what's going on. Taking him in with me again today. 🙁

lol, no no I'm totally full of sympathy (probably bordering empathy actually). The stress of waiting/applying not knowing if you're good enough/etc... was far worse than the stress of cramming the night before any vet school exam thus far. I would NOT trade spots with anyone in that position. oh heck no.

The point I was trying to get across wasn't so much, "quit yo b****in!" but more along the lines of "no need to feel down if some of your schools are slow," which obviously didn't come across that way. Since only a few schools have sent out invites, it's way too soon to feel bad about your prospects unless those were the only schools you applied to. There are PLENTY to come later.
 
Well, we went to court yesterday. Sat there for three and a half hours only to be told that they'll provide us with a lawyer and we need to come back next week. We still don't know any more than before. I still don't get enough sleep because of it. We were told it's a case we can't win. I know he can't plead not guilty, but was is winning here? 🙁 I just wish it was over already. It has the potential to make me very upset, but at least I'd know what's going on..

I'm feeling you. Many residencies have an MS integrated with them, so I'm taking about one or two classes every academic semester too. Most of them are resident or at least grad level classes, but they drive me effing insane. I am 27. I am too old to be taking exams. I'm a f***ing doctor. Seriously.

Those proselytizers can be PIAs! I would have a little something prepared in your mind and ready to say to her next time she starts that church talk stuff, especially in front of a client. I have become very impatient with people who think they corner the market on how to live life. I think it's time we let them know that there are other ways besides their way.
 
It is very annoying when someone pushes their beliefs/values onto you. I often find that the more religious certain people are, the more hypocritical they are....

For example, I work with a guy that is all about his religion and discussing the importance of his christian values. He is also the most self-centered, misogynistic jerk I've ever had to work with. Clearly, he didn't pay attention in vacation bible school to the christian's "golden rule"....
 
To be fair, I have met many atheists who, with their piss-poor supercilious attitudes, never miss an opportunity to sneer at someone who mentions anything remotely religious, or just talk down about it for no reason at all in company. They are just as bad and self-centered as the ones who talk about Jesus saving you/me/my mom/whatever.
 
WTF - you are correct. Religious or not the world is full of fanatics on both sides of the spectrum. I say believe or don't believe whatever floats your boat, but there's no need for either side to be jerks about what the other side believes/doesn't believe.

These days, I get more annoyed by people preaching politics than religion. Most people have learned some religious tolerance, but these same people feel no need to filter their dogmatic political parties' brainwashing.

I have mastered the fake smile, head nodding, while I am thinking about something completely different facial expression.

Agreed. We let people put on their music in the background at work and she's been playing gospel music recently. Not that I necessarily have a problem with it, but with the recent church talk and me being told that I shouldn't want to work on Sundays because I am supposed to be in church that day (or go to the theme park since I actually have a day off with the husband), I'm starting to become annoyed. I'm glad you feel very strongly about your beliefs, I just don't share those beliefs. To be fair to her, she hasn't told me I'm going to hell or anything.

It's always awkward to be the one non-Christian in a workplace, though. And honestly, I don't want to have conversations about Church. My dad is Catholic and my mom is Jewish - I went to church a lot as a kid. I absolutely hated it then and I doubt I would like it now. (also made it tons of fun that my oldest brother is born again - phone calls with him and my mom are always awkward).

I'm sorry 🙁 that is the worst.. I just lost my 16 year old kitty in September (5 days after my birthday 🙁 ).. she was diagnosed with kidney disease 2 years ago and it was finally her time. It is always so hard to say goodbye, I miss her everyday! I hope you find out whats wrong with your kitty and he starts to feel better soon!

We have our anatomy final tomorrow. I'm so stressed/frustrated/overwhelmed and I've got a really bad case of the ****its.

It's so true... and it's actually kind of frightening how crazy some of these people are.

craaaaap. You just reminded me it's almost Thanksgiving, which means I need to sit through a few hours of my boyfriend's dad + grandpa's diatribes. nooooooo!!!

I HATE election time, because the GF and I are on COMPLETELY opposite sides of the political spectrum. I try to stay quiet about it, and in general we don't talk about it. But some stuff didn't pass that she voted for today and she was on a roll about it when she came home, which ended up causing a fight. Awesome.
