oo good luck!!! although i have to admit that i'm a little jealous that yours is a final simply because i can not wait to be done with anatomy this semester. this class is the kind of torture that evil villains dream of bestowing upon the world!
I applied to 4 this cycle but one of those was KSU which I really wanted to go to and they have already sent out alot of OOS interviews. I am trying to stay optimistic but why does it seem ever time I get done with apps I just go into "prepare for next cycle" mode?

And I'm flipping through YOUR professor's book in attempt to understand stuff for my 4th anatomy exam (of 5, not counting the final). And I'm thinking, "Good lord, he drew this picture 6 years before I was even born."
the best day was when i realized that HE drew everything in the book, because what he draws in class hastily on the board looks NOTHING like the reasonably nice pictures in the book (they're often sloppy and hard to understand haha). apparently he won publishing over with "a bad picture is better than no picture at all" haha
where are you at in the book? our exam tomorrow is on everything through the first few pages of repro. and then last but not least will be the final in a few weeks covering the entire book (shoot me now please!!)
This exam is over abdominal nerves, vessels, and organs... Repro... And pelvic limb vessels and nerves. The 5th will be the head, and the final is everything.
A Lot of OOS? I see two on the interviews thread TWO. Stay optimistic. Last year the first KSU interviews to pop up on SDN were sent on the 8th thru the 18th, that's a 10 day spread, followed by more offers in December. We can't be done yet, even if we're only viable applicants for now.

That sucks. Our final is comprehensive only in the written. The practical portion is on the head, but I have never been more confused by an area of the body. So much stuff, so little space.

It's not as bad as you think it will be. By the time I got to the final last year, my grade was pretty much set. I could get like 100% and move up a letter grade or fail miserably and keep my letter grade. I'm sure you can figure out what grade I went for.
First semester finals week was the most relaxed finals week I ever had.
Ugh!!!!! Heavy wet snow in Madison, WI. Winter begins in the upper midwest. That is the only drawback on going to UW-Madison.
I'm not going home for christmas. I've known this all year but it hadn't hit me until now.
I'm really close to my mum, and she absolutely loves christmas. always overdoes it, but its always a really nice, special, family day. And I'm not going to be there this year. I've lived out of home for 4 years, and this is the first christmas ill miss.
I know this probably sounds really lame, but i super love christmas at home 🙁 and its exam period, and i usually get pretty homesick around now. This year its just worse than usual 🙁

Four hours of lecturing students today. OMFG. Don't get me wrong, I like teaching, but sometimes asking for answers is like pulling teeth. Maybe I should start giving candy away for right answers I hate picking on individuals, and I know you guys as students hate that too, but sometimes I feel like it is the only way!

One of our pathologists throws candy. You got candy for answering a question (right or wrong) and for asking a question (a legitimate one). Not going to lie, everyone paid way more attention in his lectures. Our pathologists are all just awesome though, so I paid more attention in general.
Sunshinevet-I'm sorry to hear how sad you are about missing christmas. As a mother, I can imagine that your own mother feels terrible about it, too. If it's possible, maybe you can "postpone" christmas and go home after exams. I think it's okay to celebrate on a different day! Maybe you could talk to your mum about it and make it happen!

I think they enjoy it and pay attention (the oohs and aaahs during the lab portion are alwasy nice), but area afraid to volunteer answers even if they may be right. I can't fault anyone, though - I was the same way in school. But it makes me feel like a ****** sitting up there with crickets chirping, heh. I can't throw candy because it's a lab course (half an hour looking at specimens while I help them and then half an hour of lecture going over the lesions, repeated 4x in a row for different lab groups) and there is dead meat on the table
Would be slightly unsanitary.

I paid attention only so that I wouldnt accidently get hit in the head with a flying jolly rancher. I think we should have gotten hazard pay for that class

...this did not stop our anatomy professor from walking into lab one day with a large tree branch full of star fruit, a knife, and a box of sugar which he then fed to the class (and our dead things were just making their way out of the bags) haha

Haha yes, crazy right? She's very conservative on a lot of issues, mostly fiscal ones. She considers herself a liberal Republican, I consider her a conservative Democrat. To"may"toes, to"mah"toes 😉 There's actually a pretty decent-sized group of conservative/Republican homosexuals. If you care to learn more, Google the Log Cabin Republicans. There's also a neat documentary on Netflix called "The Elephant In The Room," which shows the judgement that conservative LGBT people face in the gay community. It's really interesting.
I am a proud Penn State alum. Needless to say, focusing on school for the past couple of days has become increasingly difficult. Heartbroken. 🙁

How does she handle the issue that many of the politicians she might vote for or support are often anti-gay rights? I don't ask that to be snarky, just genuinely curious.
I'm just an ally (my best friend and his partner are living in Kansas right now) but this is one of the terrible things about being a "moderate" or fiscal conservative/social liberal right now. It's depressing for me to look at the field of candidates and think "none of you are a choice I can get behind 100%" Just my two cents...
Apalled and disgusted by the goings on in State College, PA this past week... It's shameful to know that old, creepy men are protected and held in higher regard than these innocent boys whose lives are now permanently scarred. And all because of a glorious football reputation. what the #&!%.

Thanks Bisbee - I definately know that my mum will be feeling it too. She's got 3 other kids but I was the first to leave home and I'm the furthest away, so she sees me least, but we're still really close. It's going to be a hard day for both of us 🙁 There will definately be presents galore and my favourite dinner when I do get home, though. 😍
I am very lucky though that I will be spending the day with my closest friends and my wonderful boyfriend. So its not all bad. Just missing mum especially much atm.
Christmas without family can suck for sure. I have been on clinic duty for the past two Christmases in a row and haven't been able to see mine. The guy I was dating at the time was around the first time (fourth year in vet school, I was ironically on necropsy over the holidays lol) but spent last Christmas (on necropsy and biopsy duty as a 1st year resident) completely alone. That really, really sucked. Heck, I haven't seen my fam in almost a year and a half. I'm actually off this year, so I'm planning to go see them. 1200+ miles be damned 🙂
Me too. I quit watching news coverage on it. It's too depressing. One lady here was talking about Penn State's "culture of violence" and I think I heard part of my heart break and fall off
It's awful. When a place like PSU gets woven into your heart and who you are as a person, this is nothing short of earth-shattering. I just wish people who aren't Stater's can understand that this ISN'T who we are. Still keep hoping that this is some terrible dream that will be gone tomorrow morning.
When you figure out the answer to that question, please let me know! Haha. I guess it's all about priorities. Mine lie mostly in social issues right now. Hers lie in fiscal. I think it has a lot to do with how we were raised. She was raised in a very conservative household; her father is a staunch and outspoken Republican. I was raised in a very liberal household, both of my parents are Democrats and social issues and injustices were often big topics of conversation at my house. Not so much in hers. So I think, to be fair, we both take after our parents. There was a man, Fred Karger, who I thought was supposed to be running for President next year...he's an openly gay Republican and I find I lined up with him on many of the issues, and my GF liked him too...I was excited for a candidate we could both support together for once, but I haven't seen much of him anywhere but the Internet.
Honestly that is going to be tough. Outside the region, football is the only thing most people know about Penn State. Until people move on from that thought.... then this scandal will remain in the forefront of their view.
I mean to put it in perspective, can you imagine if John Wooten at UCLA had something similar happen (I can't). I think some sports figures transcend the sport for their institution and Paterno is one of those people for better previously or now for worse.
Of course, no one is going to judge YOU b/c of this. Just your school.

Oooooh, believe me, we are too. And more than "vaguely curious" - the student body and alumni are appalled and outraged that Paterno is gone and the other players (who are criminally charged) are still on the payroll. AND that the media doesn't seem to care about Sandusky and the victims; they aren't famous enough to draw in readers and viewers. A fall from grace of an icon is a much more compelling story. 😡 The campus is an absolute zoo right now and students are already feeling the consequences of this man's actions. Two friends of my sister were specifically told they are no longer in the running for internships because the companies didn't want to be affiliated with PSU. It's sad.

My youngest dog had another health problem today.....
Vomiting, diarrhea, shaking like only an IG can shake non-stop, ataxia, and tachycardia.
Ended up with a boring gastroenteritis dz. anti-emetic, fluids, blah blah blah.
I am really tired of spending my time in hospitals (human and animal) on the wrong side of the table.

When I was younger, I worked as a lifeguard at a waterpark over an hour away. I would have to leave my house at 7am (waking up at 6), would sit in the hot Florida sun all day yelling at stupid people, and then would have to fight traffic in the evening to get home at about 7pm. Most days I just took a shower, ate dinner, and went to bed. My birthday was during the summer and I had worked all day and had to work the next day as well but people came over to hang out and celebrate.
My mom still makes fun of my to this day because I pretty much sat on the couch the whole time in silence (trying not to fall asleep) until 11pm when I told everyone to GET OUT! I apparently told them that I appreciated them coming over but that they had to go right now.
Point of the story...I feel your pain. Also, I make sure people know when I first meet them that when I'm tired I'm super cranky, that way if I yell at them at a later time, they aren't overly offended.

no hot water in my dorm since yesterday, boo for having to take cold showers 🙁 perhaps we will have it back by the end of the week? (i'm trying not to be too optimistic since this is Grenada after all-things move slowly). i guess the only "good" thing is that because its hot out, the water is incapable of being ice cold, so they're just really chilly showers haha
I've been having the same issue! Today at 7 I was like alright, almost done for the night and then realized that I definitely could not stop studying anytime soon 🙁
