emiloo, i totally agree with you on that one.

i love my job right now, like seriously love my job and i have the most awesome coworkers. my last weekend is 2 weekends from now, and i'm just so sad to leave 🙁

i am freaking SCARED out of my mind about school. i've never had an easy time making friends and i'm so nervous about not knowing anyone and things like that 😱 😕:scared:

i'm nervous it's going to be all so overwhelming for me. i haven't packed anyting yet, haven't bought anything yet, etc.

AHHHHH

This mildly grumpy (not at people, just at vet school) third year would be happy to be friends with you 🙂

Talk to Ashra if you have loan issues. She fixes everything!
And don't freak out. You were here as an undergrad so at least you know where the grocery store is unlike your classmates. (40th & Walnut. 22nd & Market. Well now they all know, but you still have the awesome advantage of being familiar with the area. And a killer scholarship! Jealous!).

You all (2016ers) are seriously going to be fine.

The next time I try to convince myself that summer classes "aren't that bad" and that I'll "have enough time for 12 summer credits, working 40 hours a week, and a social life" PLEASE slap me in the face =D. Today was only day 1 of Physics 2 and I'm already sick of it..

 I'm usually that person you're waiting behind. Although I have NEVER made someone else wait. I always let people go ahead of me until I'm sure about what I want.
My boyfriend prints up restaurant menus before we go out and makes me pick what I'm eating before we get there... otherwise it can take a considerable amount of time. I'm so annoying :smack:
Emiloo, you are good. You let people go ahead of you. I stood behind these two girls for FIVE minutes of them going "Hmmmm, I don't know what I want, do you?"
"Um, no. I am still thinking."
"Hmmmmmm"

no such luck 🙁 nothing on there says anything about my loans.....i wonder if it takes longer for OOS students vs. IS students?

my bill doesn't reflect my $10,000 scholarship either so i'm a bit worried right now. i was gonna wait another day to see if i get anything in the mail and then call them tomorrow.

as far as i'm aware the only reason the grad plus loan amt would be decreased is if i got those loans....initially i was approved for more.

I got an e-mail from the FA office saying the scholarships will be applied sometime before the bill is due and that I don't need to submit anything additional 😕.

Basically, chillax. Haha. Like that's possible when dealing with this much $$$.

You sound like me... we can slap each other :meanie::slap:. I took 6 credits in 4 weeks while working 50 hours a week. I think I'm a masochist.

thanks bunnity 🙂 i just need to calm down sometimes, bad tendency of mine 🙄

i've emailed ashra a couple times and she hasn't responded! maybe i'll just try calling this time?

And the biggest problem is, is that I add more and more things to do EVERY semester!! One semester I'll decide to take 19 credits in four days and then work two 12 hour shifts. I'll quickly regret it and decide "I'm NEVER doing that again!" But then the next thing I know, I'm doing crazy things like three summer classes in one summer! What am I nuts??!

Em.. it must be a Florida thing =D

Went to a laundromat in Raleigh today. A simple wash was $2.75! And it was 25 cents for 7 minutes in the dryer! I can't believe how expensive it is here. We were going to wait to purchase a washer and dryer until the financial aid goes through and the hubby finds a job. However, it's like $4 for a single load. Maybe this isn't much for this part of the country, but back in AZ I thought it was a a lot to pay around $3 for a single load ($1.50 to wash and $1.25 to dry). There were some laundromats that had 75 cent washes and 25 cent drys on certain days of the week. It's just frustrating to get laundry done when I have to pay so much for it. And the soap didn't even get all rinsed out. The washer load took 20 minutes. Not really sure how the laundry can really get clean in that amount of time.

I was amazed that in the apartments in Princeton, the washes are 50cents and the dries 25cents. I think I should give up this vet-school thing and arbitrage the laundromats. Pick up people and bring them to the princeton dorms for cheaper laundry for a cut of the savings.

Now THAT would be providing a valuable service to the world.

It might be cheaper for me to ship my laundry to you. 😀

It is 111 degrees outside currently and the AC has been off for the last 45 minutes or so while they work on trying to fix it...

Soooo incredibly hot... I swear I am melting..

Did you hear about the power outage in AZ/CA last summer? The people in SD were complaining about 85 degree weather. My poor family was sitting in Yuma (possibly the hottest place in the US) where temps were close to that 111 and they couldn't even get in the fridge or freezer to get something cool to eat/drink. Thankfully no one was hurt. I hope they hurry up and fix your ac. Oh and I don't understand humidity. You sweat, but it's definitely not as hot here in NC as in AZ.

He just turned the AC back on... but it is 2PM and it is the hottest part of the day, I hope the AC can keep up... The unit is not in the best condition and we are getting a replacement sometime next week but it is almost 90 degrees in the house.. I feel bad for the animals...

And I hate power outages in the summer, they suck..

Agreed. My college apartment's ac sucked. Like it wouldn't keep the apartment cooler than 80 in the summer. One day it stopped working and I ended up taking my guinea pigs to work. I'm paranoid about them potentially overheating. So glad yours is back up. Oh and I can't get over the time difference. Like it's 5:30 in NC.

 I leave a week from Tuesday for Scotland so I think I will be shocked by the time difference once I get over there, too.

Hey, are you saying us non-2016ers aren't going to be fine😱.

When I first posted I thought I was in the 2016 thread... and then figured I shouldn't be pronouncing things about relationship or work problems.... I can only tell the future when it comes to vet school 😛

No prob. She gets super busy this time of year (that woman has the job of like 4 people). You could call or try Deb Lefferts since she and Ashra do similar stuff.

Good luck with your travels. :luck: I'm sure that we'll be used to the difference by the time school starts. :xf:

Got the pup's cult/sens results back....
Resistant to Amoxi/Clav...
SOOO happy I just spent $250 on a bunch that I can't return :eyebrow:
Think the doc would "trade them out" for me?
At the same time, I am very happy I don't have to spend $4/day on it for the next 5 years!

aww sorry EL 🙁 clavamox is some expensive shiz. i had to have my pup on augmentin before he passed, due to low WBC counts from the other med he was taking. took quite a toll on my wallet along with the pred he was on.

the things we do for our dogs right? 🙂

what did the cult/sens results specifically come back for? what is her infection sensitive to?

That's what I was going to ask? How are you going to treat it now?

on the topic of clavamox and UTIs...i always feel bad when we prescribe expensive abx like clavamox and baytril to our clients and then their pets' cult/sens comes back resistant to them....they're always like 😱 when they see the rx charge! esp the big dogs.

I wish we had that problem. We rarely have clients to do any kind of culture since I work at a low cost clinic. I feel like my dog was one of the first patients in a while we did a urine culture on. Didn't expect to get anything back, but wanted to rule out possible kidney infection.

And just realized, I totally forgot to put the urine culture on my bill. Need to do that tomorrow.

when the clients have $$ problems we usually just rx the abx without doing a culture (if the symptoms fit UTI)....i do work at a specialty/ER center so we do have more resources than most hospitals/clients with more resources. i worked/volunteered at the low cost medical clinic at a shelter in DC and we were lucky if people wanted to even run bloodwork!

It's proteus and they want to put her on Trimethoprim sulfa... which isn't terribly cheaper :eyebrow:

Yeah, my dog is 70 pounds and until today, was going to be on it for life. $4 a pill for her size, and I just paid for $250 worth in bulk that I can't return.... anyone need some!!?? 😉

I hate my headaches. Had a really bad headache yesterday and today. Popped a happy pill (use your imagination) this afternoon...no pain for a blissful four hours...comes back full force. Pop another half of happy pill. Headache goes poof. I can't take these too often or I get rebound headaches. I really hope it's the weather (and not stress), and that Ohio weather agrees with me more. Plus I really can't take these when I have to do important things cuz I get loopy (like drive...or do surgery).

We usually do that too. It's horrible when it's really bad ear infections and we want to do a culture so that they don't have to keep spending money on antibiotics that clearly aren't working. However, I feel many clients don't realize that the test could help them in the long run and just freak out when they hear how much it costs.

EL how long of a course of the TMS are you putting your girl on?

either way, at least you don't have to use clavamox long term right? 🙂

Um, I dunno where you are getting your SMZ, but I get it for my clinic really cheap.

SERIOUS RANT, people!

I genuinely dislike the post doc I work with. Actually no, this is anonymous. I HATE HATE HATE him!!! A fairly strong loathing transformed to hate when I found out he talks trash about me (no surprise since he effing does it to every single other person in the lab) EVERY time I walk out of the lab.

So this is for you, giant DB: I loath your absurdly tiny hands, bald head, unwarranted cocky attitude, totally asinine love of paintball, 37-yr-old naivety (by that I clearly mean virginity), your loathing of dogs, your complete and utter mistreatment of innocent research animals, absolute ineptitude, flawed judgement, your ugly two-face and, in general, your guts!

Okay. I'm breathing now.

I actually feel better now. I can't talk to anyone about it. Now I might be able to get through the next 30 days of my employment without cutting a b. Not seriously, I don't have that kind of street cred.

CC, I truly am sorry that you work with a douche but your post made me laugh so hard!!!

I'm glad I could make you chuckle while getting that incredibly angry monkey off my back.

Now both of our lives are better 🙂

lol

It's so true. Why does such a comically large, apelike man wear 'small' gloves? I will never understand. That's something jesus keeps to himself.

So Mickey has been gone a little over week but it feels like forever. I work with dogs at an animal shelter and have been trying not to fall in love with any of them since then. A few days ago three Australian Shepherd puppies came in and one was all white with crystal blue eyes. Since her sister was a merle and she also has a smaller eye everyone assumed that she's deaf (she is). I thought they'd put her down or in foster care but no they just put her straight into adopt without even mentioning that she's deaf. Now I'm seriously considering driving the half hour to work to adopt a deaf eight week old puppy. Someone needs to remind how stupid an idea this is when I have two insane cats and I'm not certain what will happen in the next year (will I actually get into vet school?).

um... yeah I'll let someone else handle this. I'll just be a terrible influence. I'm taking two 70lb dogs and a cat to an apartment across the country, so I shouldn't be the one to advise you on this situation 👎😎

To make matters worse I'll share the link to the picture of her and her siblings.

She's obviously the all white one. I've already (in my head) named her Mouse because I know the sign for that and she's so quiet.

Side note: Was it difficult for you to find housing for a two big dogs and a cat? If you could do it with that I could do it for a quiet dog and two cats.

It was difficult mostly because of size restrictions, but other than that it wasn't too bad. Depends where you'll be though. Gainesville is extremely dog friendly. The only thing I ran into besides the size (over 25 lbs is tough to find) was breed restrictions( not problem with an aussie) and "pet rent" every month which just plain sucks! I found a place that waves the rent for adopted pets so I chose there (and it was only half a mile from the school). 😀

Why does it matter that her sister was a merle?

Sister being a merle means that a parent was likely a merle and means greater probability for the double merle mating that results in genetic defects like deafness or blindness. She already has a smaller eye so the third eyelid is always up which points to the double merle mating. (At least this is how I understand it someone with more knowledge feel free to correct me).

Thank you! While I know a lot of dog breeds and how to handle dogs, I don't really know much about breeding, genetics, etc. yet.

I have lots of friends who have big dogs near UNL (where I'd go for two years if I got into IA) and then I have a friend who has two cats, a snake, and a rabbit in an apt out there. I mean I guess it's doable. I just have to work harder to find a place to live.
