RANT HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is good to hear. I am just not entirely sure that I want to have the test ran. I still do not have an actual diagnosis, but even if they were to tell me it was some autoimmune condition, I am not sure I would take the medications anyway. I have seen what those medications have done to my family members and I really do not have any desire to be on them.

I get that.... but perhaps there are alternate therapies that you could look into once you know what you have.... just a thought.... maybe even holistic type ****e (not usually a fan of that, but....)..... by knowing what it is you might be able to find a forum or online source of info to maybe find alternative treatments for times when it does act up.....just an idea....

👍

Not a bad idea. 🙂

Just got a call that my grandma isn't doing well. Keep her in your thoughts please. She is the most stubborn, hard-headed, wonderful person I know. 😍

Sorry to hear this Emiloo 🙁 She will be in my thoughts

Every muscle, bone and joint in my body hurts so incredibly bad that the thought of moving makes me want to cry. I feel like I am falling apart.

🙁🙁🙁

I kinda get the idea of not wanting to be tested again. But there could be other options out there. You might find some options here that are not available in the US? I say that as a question, because I really have no idea if that is true. My one suggestion would be to avoid the student health center on the main campus. I registered there, but I have not been overly impressed with the doctors.

Depending on where you are living, a few of my friends have found great private practices closer to their homes with better hours than the student health center anyway. Feel better and good luck! When is your first exam?

There is a private practice doctor right across the street from my flat that I am going to register with, once I receive the letter from the school showing that I am a student.

First half of first exam is Tuesday at 1:45PM, so if you see an incredibly nervous looking girl frantically going through flash cards in the EB building at about 1PM that is probably me. 😉

Second half is Thursday at 9:30... :scared: (This is the one that I am really nervous about, not very good with short answer questions).

You will be fabulous. And then go drinking on Thursday for lunch. NBD.

Do you guys have an oral exam too?

I agree with SnS - you should be day drinking on Thursday!!

So sorry, Emiloo. My nanny had many days where she was in the hospital and not doing very well 🙁 I'll keep her in my thoughts.

Yes, the oral exam is the one on Tuesday, not quite as worried about that part for some reason.

I will definitely have to be drinking once everything is done with on Thursday.

We always go straight to the pub right after exams...doesn't matter if it's 11am...🙂

👍👍hahaha we do too!! yay for vet school breeding alcoholism 🙂

My arm hurts. Got run into a wall by a horse yesterday and hit my arm on metal. Hoped it'd be gone by today, but no...

Why won't they let us write the GRE on the weekends?

If I write it by the end of October, I will have two shots at it before the local vet school makes decisions on who to invite for an interview.

But I start an 8-430 job tomorrow.

All I can do is study my arse off for 3 months and write it when I become unemployed in January.

Where in Canada are you?

If you're in an area with computer-based testing, that's based on the testing site's decision, as far as I know. I'm sure, though, that those fill up very far in advance.
A quick search of a few different cities finds the occasional weekend opening, though definitely more further out.

There is only one test center in my province (I'm in Nova Scotia). Which means I would have to travel several hours to the next computer-based test center. Every time I have gone to register for the GRE here, there are no weekend openings. I don't think the test centre is open in the weekend but I could be wrong.

Looks like they exist--I can find some in December and into 2013, which doesn't help you. 🙁
I imagine they fill up WAY in advance since everyone else in NS has the same problem as you with only one test center and limited weekday availability.

My friend's birthday is on Tuesday, so we're going to have a big Doctor Who watching party where everyone brings food. I want to bring macaroni and cheese. Only problem is, I don't have the right sort of baking dish here at school, so I was going to buy one today when I went out to buy ingredients. Only the store that sells that sort of stuff is closed on Sundays. And I have no time to go into town tomorrow. All I can do is hope I get out of chem lab early on Tuesday so I can go into town, but I really don't like cutting it that close.

The GRE sort of reminded me of this... although it's not a rant.

I met several people this summer who were writing the MCAT for two reasons:
1) Just to see how well they do.
2) If they get a good score, they might apply to med school.

Do people really put down hundreds of dollars on a test just to see if they can do better than their friends? Who applies for med school because of their MCAT score and nothing else?

Mind = boggled

Can you get a disposable metal pan from the grocery instead? Obviously not as nice, but then you don't have to worry about something going wrong.

I'm not sure they have the right kind of pan in disposable metal. What I'm looking for is something like this:

(a big one). I know they have disposable pie pans at the grocery, but I'm not sure they'd have something that deep.

My flight has been delayed for longer, now. And I've got a test tomorrow! I really need to study. Haven't had a chance all weekend because of the wedding. Ugggghhh.

Can't you study while the flight is delayed?

good luck.

If the test is on anatomy, I can quiz you via PMs... 😀

Haha, that's super sweet. Its immunology. I took it in undergrad, so I'm not freaking out because I feel alright about it, but I'm tired and I should be landing now, but am here in Chicago.

Sorry, can't quiz immunology since we don't learn that until after these exams. Good Luck! :luck:

Hopefully, your flight leaves soon. :xf:

sooo here in Grenada, you often have to exercise creativity to its finest. i have made a whole host of things out of foil myself. from cake dishes to cookie pans to random items like bowls. clearly not very fancy, but if you've got a bit of foil around the house, i'm sure you could throw something together and look very clever in the process. :luck:

Thanks. 🙂 I will make this happen...I'm just not entirely sure how yet.

I think you should bake it in multiple containers(if you have to), then transfer it all to a large clay pretty flowerpot! (lined with something like tinfoil, obviously) Unique and large!

That's cute and all, but I don't know where I'd get a flower pot either. 🙄

she was my favorite first year teacher...

she likes to tell stories during class. About her dog - who used to eat everything.

I really like her, too. She's funny. And so is Sims!

So annoyed with myself that I let my student loan default years ago and haven't taken care of it since. 🙁 (Poor money management choices/depression/other issues that I have resolved thankfully, but ya know, wasted those years in my mind 😡)

I have to call and talk to yet another person next week, but I'm pretty sure that it will take 12 full months to get my loan out of default status, which means not taking classes Fall '13 like I wanted to. 🙁 It's my own fault, I know, it makes me mad at myself. (There is no way I could afford 3-5k a year without getting a loan, not on what I make currently and paying off bills I owe).

I am still going to try and save up maybe 1k and take a couple classes until loan is out of default. I say try, because I know I will be needing a new vehicle in the next year or two. 🙁

I just want to start school again already!

Walmart has pots!

Walmart is two bus rides away and I don't have a car. Which is why I didn't just go into town yesterday, there was an event at my school that messed with the buses.

Seriously, thanks for the support, all. 😍

I have a set of Henckels knives that my boyfriend bought me for Christmas one year. They are professional quality and I love them and take immaculate care of them. Roommates were told how to take care of the knives and I have a sign on the knife block saying "Hand wash only, NO DISHWASHER". Roommate put 2 of my Henckels knives in the dishwasher. Those knives are now pretty much ruined 🙁 They will be 30-50$ each to replace so I'm kind of upset.

And my boyfriend and cat left for home 30 minutes before this happened. Not my day 👎

I 😍 henckles. I have a set myself and when my roommate put mine in the dishwasher, my BF had to hold me back I was so pissed.

Anyway, I came on here to ask everyone to continue the positive thoughts for my grandma. She is undergoing a triple bypass tomorrow. She's 87 🙁. Hoping she makes it through. :xf: :xf:

Sending good thoughts your grandma's way Emilioo!

My rant: I've been having sinus problems all week, blah! Huge green boogers with blood clots and the inside of my nose feels raw. But I otherwise feel totally fine ... I've been using a sinus rinse but it's frustrating because I can still hardly breathe through my nose! Anyone have any ideas?

I'm taking this diagnostic imaging class that's a total snoozer ... Must suck it up and study 🙁

I am having sinus issues, too. I went to the dr and got an abx. I started it and felt 95% better. I've been using afrin nasal spray too (only use it for 3 days though). Dr told me lots of warm/hot fluids and steam. Feel better. It sucks!👎

Update: my friend has a baking dish that should totally work for my macaroni. Only problem is how I'll manage to cook it between getting out of class at 5 and the party at 5:45, but eh.

:xf: for your grandma :luck::luck::luck:

Yeah my BF thought he got off easy a few Christmases ago when I asked for knives. He was sorely mistaken :meanie:

Let me explain some more...

I have had these symptoms come and go since I was 16 years old. I have been to the doctor a few times for this between 16 and 20. We have a lot of autoimmune disease in my family so I have had a couple of ANA titer tests since these symptoms can be from an autoimmune disorder. The first ANA titer came back insanely high so the pediatrician I was seeing at the time (I was 17, I think?) sent me to a rheumatologist. The rheumatologist was a jerk and basically brushed it off, said the test was probably just an error and that I don't have enough symptoms to make a diagnosis of anything (which is actually probably true). He recommended that we wait a few months and re-test the ANA titer. So I think it was about 6 months later that they re-tested it, it was still insanely high. So he just recommended to keep an eye on it. I have yet to be back to him because of the way he treated me. I have also had not had another ANA titer since I was 18. I know what the treatments are for autoimmune diseases and quite honestly, I really don't want to be taking those medications. So I deal with the symptoms as they come and when they are not around, I enjoy every possible second that I can. Thanks for the concern. When I can finally get to a doctor I will and I will see if I can have that ANA titer ran again, but typically most docotors won't jump straight to running an ANA titer so it is going to take some convincing and I am just not up for convincing a doctor to do that right now.
DVMDream, I know exactly what you are talking about...my family has lots of autoimmune issues too, and often the same problems with doctors. I'm sorry, and hope you feel better soon. I have no idea what can be done over where you are, but just the same, I can identify with what you're going through. I am not sure if there can be an actual diagnosis for some of these conditions- they seem to be related and share so many symptoms. Hope you can get things straightened out!

Thanks. I often find it hard for people to understand why I don't go running to a doctor whenever something hurts or isn't working right. I have just gotten used to it over the past 8 years and often times getting a doctor to even listen to you is worse than the pain/symptoms themselves. But life moves on no matter how you feel and I won't let the symptoms stop me from enjoying life, so I just keep pushing forward (and stock-piling ibuprofen 😉)

What the actual ****. Dear horse, PLEASE STOP TRYING TO DIE. If you die I am going to be really, really, really angry. So knock it off.

Sincerely,
Not amused.
