I think that's silly. You have the dog - I know she isn't permanent, but she runs more of a risk to property damage than a cat would. And if not that, then why would she care? She isn't scooping poo nuggets.

"It's gonna piss everywhere." Those are her words. 🙁

Just ignore them and get one anyway. When they see it's eyes they will instantly forget why they pushed the issue.

I could do that with my dad. But it doesn't work with my mom. 🙁

But she barely comes up here, so I could keep it a secret for a little while.

I have the perfect solution for you ... Foster! When she realizes cats aren't going to trash her house maybe she'll cave. OR just say whatever kitty you get is a foster 😉

She actually hates the idea of fostering even more! I could train one cat eventually and trust it to you use the litter box only, according to her. But with fostering, there'd be new ones in and out and always a problem. I tried that route. And really liked it. But she didn't.

Although I may have found a foster group where you only commit to short amounts of time (like 2 or 3 weeks, whatever works for you). It'd be very easy to keep unnoticed.

Children pee around the house more than the majority of cats.

That's why I go to other people's houses to babysit.

I haven't been babysitting at all since I'm at college cause I don't really know any families here. But thanks to NaNo, I may have found my first babysitting job here. 🙂

I can't sleep 🙁 My stress level is so high because of the roommate situation. I'm having trouble finding a place to live that is reasonably close to school and will allow 3 cats (curse my crazy cat ladyness). I wish the roommate would just move out. It sucks that she spreads rumors about us, is a slob, is rude and disrespectful to us and our property, tells us to drop dead on FB yet she cannot be evicted. Most of the stuff in the house is mine and I have 3 cats to uproot while she has her bedroom stuff and no pets to uproot. It's causing a rift between me and my dad because he is the landlord and the house was bought for me to live in while at school. Now I'm moving out and he's left with an unstable tenant. It's insane.
For the past 2 weeks I've been getting about 3-4 hours of sleep a night. I'm so tired all the time and I've fallen way behind. My stomach is constantly in knots. I can't get away from the stress; roommate is a classmate and group member for one class (the groups were randomly assigned so someone upstairs does not like me). To top everything off my BF and are pretty much over. Our relationship has completely fallen apart. I started crying last night and couldn't stop for over an hour. I'm such a mess right now 🙁
This year needs to be over ASAP

Agreed. My classroom sitting abilities has just about checked out. 4 more months til clinics.

I've fostered several kitties and not one has had an accident ... I can't say the same for dogs

🙁 ... I feel like we all go through periods of life like this and just know that there WILL be an end! It totally sucks right now but it'll make you a stronger person in the long run and you'll be able to fully appreciate the better times in life! Hang in there ky 😳

p.s. remind me why your dad can't evict the horrible roommate?

Stress will eat you alive if you let it ... make time to do something you enjoy, even if it's only 5 minutes/day!!

Can today pleeeeease be over?

I'm very very agitated :annoyed:

Power is off at the shelter and they won't let us work because its a liability issue.

Thanks for the support 🙂 Not being able to sleep is certainly not helping things. Tenancy laws here are favor the tenant heavily. In order to evict her she either has to stop paying rent, damage the property, or break the law while in the residence. He checked with a lawyer and her threats would have to be direct and explicit (i.e. "I'm going to physically harm you" vs. "drop dead"). Even if she said something like "I hope you die" or "I want you to die" it wouldn't be enough because she isn't directly saying she'll harm. The strict tenancy act is fine for the offending tenant and even the landlord but it leaves other tenants without much recourse unless a law is broken 🙁

This sounds awful- I'm so sorry 🙁 I would totally offer you my spare bedroom even temporarily but I can't have any more pets and it's a decent ways out of town. Honestly, you can probably talk to the professor of the course where you're together in the group and ask for a switch. Did she sign a lease? If so, for how long? Like, can he give her the boot once the lease is up, even if it's only next year?

We have 2 more weeks of the class and my other group members are good so I'm sticking it out for the semester but I'm requesting a switch for next semester. She signed a lease for one year. As long as she doesn't renew then it's ok. She admits she hates it here and doesn't want to live with us anymore but she thinks the we should move and she should get to stay here alone 🙄 Dad offered her a penalty free move out option in October but she declined. She also plans on skipping out on rent for the summer months when she goes home. Pretty ridiculous.

I will say that AVC is the most supportive place I've been at. Most of my classmates, my 2nd year buddy (along with other 2nd years 🙂), friends in 3rd year, and the professors and associate dean have all been great. And of course SDN is a great morale booster. Thanks to everyone who has reached out to me, I really appreciate it! 😍

Well wait, if she doesn't pay her rent over summer then you should evict her butt!! Who is self-absorbed to the point of thinking they have a shot at living in their roommate's dad's house by herself? That in itself would irk really me.

Just remind yourself it's temporary ...

Ky, you should find out what things would irk her so badly that SHE would want to move out. :meanie:

Tripped out the front door and fell down the two steps. Landed on my elbow, which is now super sore. Thought I would share my embarassment.

I have been cutting my calories and increasing my exercise....and gaining weight. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I've never been this heavy in my life...I'm so frustrated

Stress. And if you cut calories too drastically your body will store every bit. (My BFF is an RD 🙂)

Ky: urggggggh. How the heck did she get into vet school!?!?!?!?!

If I magically get in, I would make an awesome roommate. My boyfriend would agree with that. 🙂.

Looks like I might be on call for 6 nights over this Thanksgiving Break instead of the original 4.

I forgot about some assignments which means I have to shove them into this break somehow.

My house is a freaking pigsty and I'm backed up on laundry because my husband just moved back in and brought all his dirty laundry with him.

And to top it all off...

One of my diamonds fell out of my wedding band today.

Roof of mouth is burnt and hurts. Made it so I couldn't wear my night guard last night and my jaw is sore

Third year is exhausting. According to my wall calendar, I have had exactly ONE "free" afternoon in the last two weeks of October and entire month of November. Every other day has labs in the afternoon, or surgery, or bovine therio lectures until 4 or 5. I really hope next semester is better. I miss second year and all the free time I had to play with ponies and go to the lake with the dogs. I am so burnt out at this point. I'm getting out of town for a few days over the holiday weekend, but I'm feeling like even that's not going to be enough to bring back my "give a damn".

<end whine>

:boom:

I hate school. I hate it... I hate classes... I hate studying... I hate not having any interaction with animals at all.... And yet I still want to be a vet... I just hate school... :bang:

Working tomorrow on my normal day off. I think this will be the fourth week out of the last five I will have overtime. I like the extra pay, but it's getting old. Especially because we're not understaffed like the last time this happened. And when my boss who makes the schedule is surprised when someone else observes how many Saturdays I've worked recently--really?

I have too much sh(t to do. It's like my professors looked at the calendar and decided to cram as much as possible into the two day school week. Also, my husband is so obsessed with his new fire pit that he refuses to go through all his crap that is currently sitting on top of the bed his sister is supposed to sleep on this week. He works a 24hr shift starting tomorrow morning. I don't see him doing it tonight since he is already drinking out by the fire with his buddy so it will probably be up to me to decide what to do with all his stuff. I'm tempted to just throw it all away but he would kill me if I did that. Oh and I have to go grocery shopping for Thanksgiving/this week since his family is staying here.

Dear fellow vet student,

I know you are kind of the vegan/hippy sort and will have many friends of that same viewpoint, but you have taken parasit and you KNOW that their magical spray-on mixture of lemongrass, lavender, and Dr. Bronner's soap does f*ck all good for heartworms, ticks, OR fleas. Please educate your idiot friends. Also, deer don't really get fleas.*

Yours truly,
classmate trying not to lose her **** on your hippie idiot friend

In December of 2010, my laptop died. Cat stepped on the keyboard. It froze and when I restarted it, it kept restarting instead of booting up.

I took it to the computer repair place and was told the hard drive was bad. I agreed to have it replaced for $218. They called me back and told me the motherboard and hard drive was gone and that I had a sticky key. They suggested I buy a new one because it would have been too expensive to repair. They offered to waiver the diagnostic fee if I let them keep the laptop. I paid $40 to keep it.

I was forced to spend my Christmas money (and then some) on a cheap laptop. It cost me $478. The battery has since crapped out and I do not want to spend the money for a new one. 2/3 USB ports crapped out a month after purchase. I would have had to send it away to be fixed. I needed it badly for school so I did not bother to get it repaired.

My new boyfriend asked to have my old laptop so my parents dug it out. I brought it home last night.

It works perfectly. The ALT key is missing for some reason. The power button is sticky. Boyfriend speculates that it didn't work when they pressed the button so they assumed it was the motherboard.

Yes, it is cool that I have two laptops that work. The way I see it though is that I wasted $470 by buying a new laptop. I was in love with my old one. Bought it in 2007. Ran XP. Worked flawlessly up until it "died". Also, when I found out that the hard drive needed to be replaced, I was contemplating letting my parents buy the hard drive and keep it for themselves. That laptop ran a lot better than their ancient desktop. They purchased a new computer about a month ago. If my laptop had been fixed, I could have saved them hundreds of dollars by letting them take it off of my hands.

My mom knows the owner of the repair shop quite well, so she is going to go in for me and see what they can do. She has given them a lot of business lately and the owner "owes her a favor".

I haven't decided if I wanted to keep my new one or my old one. My new one has better specs, but with the USB ports not functioning and the battery lasting about 10 minutes, it is more annoying to use. We are going to run this one for a bit to see if the hard drive craps out. The boyfriend has an extra one he can put in if that is the case.

I never realized how difficult writing a "statement of purpose"/personal statement/whatever-you-want-to-call-it was.

+pissed+ :boom: :boom: :diebanana: :wtf:

I'm lucky to have an awesome mentor who is editing them, but omg. :boom:

THIS should be covered by the jewelry store you bought it from, no matter what. Stones should not fall out. Take it back to the store.

Yeah, I know it's not a big deal because it is definitely covered, but it was the straw that broke the camel's back today.

I forgot to mention that I'm also pet-sitting for someone and her indoor cat dashed out the door and into the woods behind her house when I went to take the dogs out. Thank goodness I dragged my husband along because he was able to run after it and get it back into the house.

So basically, it's been a crap-tastic day all around. I'm hoping tomorrow is better.

I don't think it's fair to tell me I have bad communication and get me in trouble for things when I don't get any answers to my questions! 😡

I'm pretty sure cats are born knowing how to use a litterbox. 🙄

Sitting in class with a freaking headache that I've had for like two days now...and not able to concentrate at all... :annoyed:

Why can't this day be over soon???
