Thanks guys 🙁 Just can't stop crying. I was expecting to bring her to vet school and have her forever. Just feels really unfair, but that's just life sometimes I guess.

Aw, geez...I had an old man that I felt the same way about, hon. He was a rescue and just the sweetest old guy. Tore me to pieces when I lost him and it took a very long time for me to get over him. 🙁 It took me over a year before I was ready to share my heart again.

He was a wonderful old guy even wih poop nuggets falling from his bum. Now I have two awesome babies that will (hopefully :xf:) go with me when I get in.

Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to grieve.

So I'm back in Philly for the night with my mom and sister because we're going to the Temple/Syracuse game tomorrow and my mom decided to clean my apartment (although it was pretty clean to begin with). She felt the need to open a window and of course she picked the broken one. It's ridiculously difficult to get back up (it's the top half of the window) so now it's stuck down behind the lower half of the window. I'm annoyed because it's letting all the heat out and we don't have bars on our windows. I don't particularly feel comfortable going to sleep with a window open like that. And she hurt her fingers.

I feel really bad because she's hurt, but I'm ridiculously annoyed for some reason. Probably due to stress with finals coming up...

ETA: And now I feel like a horrible, horrible, person. =(

This is a Thanksgiving of Firsts for my family... And not so much in a good way...

First thanksgiving that my fiancé has missed in 4 yrs..
First thanksgiving without both of my dad's parents..they both passed away within 1 yr and 4 months..

My dad is not coping well with the loss of his parents.. With his own health problems developing in the past couple of months, it seems like his depression is at an all time high.. Seeing this, and how it is effecting him and my family, especially today, is making this a very difficult day.

I just wish there was a way to help my dad... And I wish I could just talk to my guy.. He always can make me feel better. 🙁

Jmo, I'm directing this question to you but anyone who has an idea feel free to chime in 🙂

I found a worm in my guinea pig's cage this morning! I've never seen anything like it. I noticed her water bottle was leaking a little and the worm was by the moist area. I only saw 1. It was the length of a piece of rice and it was a perfect cylindrical shape (not flattish like a tape worm). It was a taupe clearish color with a darker area (almost black) on it.

Anyone have any idea what it could be????

umm i feel like i should probably know since I'm almost done with parasitology? but i really have no clue. i would discount it as a freak event unless your piggie shows signs of illness, gets really itchy, starts losing hair, not eating, funny pooping, ya know - the things that go along with parasites. the GP parasites that i know do not look like that (in fact they're quite tiny!)

are you by chance using anything "new"? new food, new bedding, new hay, that sort of thing? perhaps that could be the source? i kinda like the fly theory though - wet and poopy seems to be their favorite!

My 6mo old best kitten ever that I've had since she was a day old threw a saddle thrombus this morning and I had to put her down. I've never been so devastated... after a string of really bad luck with kittens this summer I was so happy to have one that wasn't dying. I just.... I don't know what to do with myself. This hurts so bad.

i am so very sorry 🙁 that is much too young

less than 3 weeks...less than 3 weeks...ugh i just want to go home to my piggie! i miss her so much 🙁

I am very sorry for your loss wildcat. I know what it is like to lose a cat suddenly. 🙁

Possibly a pin worm....we have seen a few with the piggies or buns. We also tell ppl to use heavy ceramic bowls instead of bottles. They spit back up the tubes for the bottles and you can never get them clean enough. Plus, you can more accurately judge how much they are drinking with a bowl. If their teeth hurt, they may not drink from the bottle but will still use a bowl.

Not to be argumentative... but I was curious about the bolded statement having just finished parasitology..

Pinworms seem to be a controversial finding in Guinea Pigs. If they occur they are actually more likely cecal worms (according to one source), worms in general are considered non-pathogenic in guinea pigs (according to many sources), or you should immediately go to the vet if you see one (according to a number of what I would call less reputable sources).

If that cleared up the subject, you are better than me.

Pin worms are long with a tapered end (hence the name). The "worm" described sounds like a fly larva aka a maggot (which, depending on the species of fly and whether there are any wounds on the pig, may or may not be capable of acting as a parasite).

Not arguing with you SOV....just throwing it out there

You, of course are the one in vet school. I do believe that I recall my vet telling me of the non-pathogenic nature. I do think a trip to the vet is warranted regardless. 😉

So I told someone I was falling in love with them (Yup, same guy from before) and he said he was flattered but that it scares him. He wants to talk tonight. I'm afraid he's going to break up with me. I feel like I'm going to throw up.

Anyway, I'll probably delete this post later because I feel like a serious idiot.

Abney, you are not an idiot. You expressed how you feel to someone. There is no idiocy involved in that. At least you are able to honestly express your feelings.

I think he's going to break up with me though. I feel pretty sure.

For what it's worth, Abney, I think it was good of you to be honest with your feelings. Hang in there. *hugs*

i just picked my bra up off my bed (one i never wear but it goes with my nice clothes that i needed for our SVM awards ceremony tonight) that i had on 2 hours ago just to see a small spider go running across the cup:scared: it either came from my bed 😱 or i was wearing it earlier😱😱 ahhhhhh (i dont mind spiders unless they're poisonous, in my bed, or on me)

Oh god. 😱 😱 I'm checking all my clothes tomorrow...

I'm late, but I'm so sorry for your loss wildcat. 🙁

Minor rant:
It bothers me when a girl who has become fitness obsessed in the last 2 years says she is giving up sugar to get rid of her muffin top. What muffin top...???

Meanwhile, I apparently gained 20 pounds since I stopped going to the gym. All that has changed is that I do not work out and that I eat out more (but I chose healthier options most of the time.) I am supposed to get a gym membership with the boyfriend because I miss it. We just have not gone yet.

And now I will be constantly poking around my guinea pig's cage to make sure he doesn't have any...

I kind of need to take him to the vet anyway though, just for a normal check up. I got him from someone else and I don't know if he's ever seen a vet.

Same here. My girls have gone to the vet about 3/4 times since I got them a year and a half ago. A couple of normal check-ups and then pink urine (which can be normal) and the like. I've got to get my little one spayed and the older one needs a recheck on blood work. I'm hoping the spay can wait until spring break.

So I'm trying to adopt a Boston through a rescue, and they keep having their dogs get adopted. I'm looking for a young adult (<6 years old) that is moderately mellow. I've got an old Chi that doesn't need a crazy hyper dog, and I'd rather not have two old dogs at the same time (it'd be too hard to lose them both). I'm still looking though. It seems they are always getting dogs in.

Oh man you guys, I am scared out of my mind. I was walking my dogs on a trail along a busy road this morning. I rarely see anyone on this trail. This woman ran up behind us and I didn't hear her because there were a lot of cars. My dogs didn't appear to hear her either and she didn't announce herself. She sprinted right next to my dogs and my chocolate Lab, who is the most stable dog ever, got spooked and tried to take off in the other direction. My black Lab, who's got some insecurities and is currently in training, lunged and bit the woman on the thigh. She appeared to be in a lot of pain and I called her husband to come pick her up. I even offered to call 911. She wasn't sure if he broke the skin but said she would let me know when she gets home and takes her spandex pants off. She seemed pretty shaken up, as was I (he is NOT an aggressive dog) and she feels it was mostly her fault for not announcing herself. She said she doesn't want to go to the ER if its not necessary but I told her she must go if he broke the skin. I told her I would pay the bill.

If she goes to the ER, the doctor is obligated to report the incident to animal control. I'm terrified that he'll need to be put to sleep. But I wasn't breaking any laws ... They were both on 6' leashes. I left a message for my dog's trainer to see if she has any thoughts or suggestions but I haven't heard back from her yet.

I'm so upset and scared, I have no idea how I'm going to get through today. My husband is 5000 miles away and he's freaking out too.

Not sure where you live but in most places the first time a dog bites it is not put to sleep. And it usually requires someone pressing charges in the first place. At least in FL. We dealt with a case like this with a high profile client who's sweet lab bit a lady who refused to leave his property. The dog is required to wear a muzzle in public now though.

It sounds like the woman is being reasonable about it at least, which is a good thing for you and your dog. Try to relax for now. I doubt this is enough for your dog to be put to sleep. I have a protective dog like that and I sometimes worry about this happening so I understand your concern. Keep us posted. *Hugs*

Since they were both on lead and with you, you probably don't have too much to worry about. I am assuming that both dogs are UTD, right? You might have to do an in home quarantine for 10 days. E has it right I believe.

I feel bad for her but she is right, she should have announced herself since it was busy and loud.

I'm sure everything will be fine :xf:

I know I'm a bit late, but I'm sorry wild. 🙁 Something like that is never easy to go through. *hugs*

And Abs you are NOT, I repeat NOT an idiot. You had the guts to tell someone how you feel, which is not an easy feat. That counts more than anything in my book.

I really hope it all works out. Our dogs are like our children and I would be crushed if I had to put him down.

I walk them every single day and people and other dogs walk past and he's fine. He's a rescue dog - he was found as a stray in a bad area infamous for backyard breeding. He was about a year old at the time and he wasn't socialized, wasn't neutered, and wasn't house trained. Of course now he's house trained and neutered and the socialization and training has been a process. He's currently in a class working on his CGC certification. His trainer says he definitely has some insecurities but isn't aggressive so we've been working on that.

His license with the city expired recently but he IS up to date on DAPP, Bordatella, and Rabies. He's on monthly flea and heart worm prevention.

Gosh, the lady startled ME! Like she literally came out of nowhere. She said she would call me to tell me what's going on and let me know if he broke the skin. It's been 3 hours and I haven't heard from her.

Err on the side of optimism and think good thoughts. Poor boy! I do recue work so I completely understand.

Abney, you are NOT an idiot.....he is! You handled yourself like an adult and perhaps he just isn't there yet. If that is the case, then he is obviously not up to standard. 😉

Wildcat! I just read this. I am so sorry for your loss.🙁

What I have motivation for: starting the third book of Game of Thrones, cooking, eating, painting my toes, listening to Christmas music.

What I don't have motivation for: studying for finals starting on Thursday, studying for three quizzes this week, adding to the paper worth 30% of the grade, doing the dishes.

:help:

I am right there with you.. No motivation to study at all and the exams are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. :bang:

And my head is killing me... want to cut out my eyes because they are making my brain hurt.

I had to work all day on Thanksgiving and the day after. My parents said they would set aside some leftovers for me. They didn't. 🙁

I feel fine and it's hard enough to study, I can't imagine feeling crummy 🙁

I'm compromising with myself by listening to Christmas music while I study and dreaming of a few weeks from now 😀

That would actually really upset me. What a bummer.

I'm really trying to not let it bother me, but it does bother me. I've missed the last 3 Thanksgivings because I had to work. I just really wanted some good homemade food this year!

I had to work too. Last three days and tomorrow. Can't wait for school to start again so I can sleep longer in the morning.

And a nice dinner on Thursday would have been nice too.

Update: Animal Control came out and I had to provide proof of vaccines and license. He's on a 10 day quarantine then life can resume as normal.

He's really not a bad dog. We walk 2x/day every day and walk by people and other dogs daily and he's always totally fine. I'm bummed he has to miss training class tomorrow and next Sunday 🙁

Stupid lady ... Seriously, who runs up behind 2 unfamiliar dogs when it's obvious they didn't see her (nor did I)? I'm paying her urgent care bill (she had to get a few stitches) and come to find out she doesn't have medical insurance, uuuggghhh. We don't even live in a low income or bad area so that was a shock.

Sorry...that really stinks!

Stupid woman!

When my cat bit my mother (because she stupidly tried to get between the cat and the dog when the cat tried to attack the new dog--I was not home, would not have let the dog been in the house with the cat also that early in her introduction), it took animal control 9 days to show up and the guy was like, "oh, well I guess one more day." 🙄

Bummer about missing the training though. Sorry.

And at least you're being a nice person and agreed to pay the urgent care bill. Kudos to you.

Small rant but ESPN is a black screen right now and it's pissing me off. I hate paying for things that don't work.
