sorry. It's always tough to even consider those words. As a doctor, as a client, as anyone.

:xf: for your kitty

Thank you... I'm crossing all my fingers and toes. :xf: She has every single symptom and is the right age, only 2 years old. The good news is that when we drained the fluid it looked/smelled more like pus and wasn't clear or yellow. I won't know the test results for a week but even if it's not FIP why the heck does a 2-year old indoor only cat have a chest filled with fluid. 😕

why is is so hard to sell a lifted vehicle. 😡

the two people who have come to test drive it have never driven a built vehicle, let alone a heavily built one.
"Uhm, well it leans quite a bit when you took that corner."
"Yes.....every lifted vehicle ever on the face of the planet is going to do that, especially if it doesnt have sway bars.
"Oh."

One guy I had to do the test drive for him 😕 because he didnt feel comfortable. I just....what? Why are you wasting both of our time?

My boyfriend would buy that vehicle in a heartbeat! It's the lifted Jeep that you've posted a picture of before, correct?

:xf: that you get it sold without much more stress.

The majority of the pictures I have up on it are from out on trails. I still get "has it ever been wheeled?" asked almost every day. Just...ugh.

I have to cover reception this afternoon at work since the receptionist went home sick. Can't do any work on this computer so I'm sitting here waiting for the phone to ring.......:lame:

WW would be nice right now.

I've got a mess of work to do this week, but that's only really stressful because it's on top of the group project that I have literally no idea how it's going to get done. I'm going to be in a group with some of my friends (we haven't determined how to split yet), and everyone seems to be saying they can't think about it until the weekend. Well, this weekend has a big event on Saturday (which I'm fine skipping and would probably skip anyway, but I doubt anyone else is) and I'm doing a trip all day Sunday. It's due Monday. This doesn't work.

That really sucks I'm so sorry 🙁 :xf: that's it's fast and easy.

Thank you, she just went under a little while ago, but the surgeon sounded optimistic based on her ultrasound. Hopefully it is cut and dry.

....I think I have to order it. Is that weird?

Nope, I had to when I saw it 😀 Were you able to find it? I looked quickly for you when I found the picture but didn't see it for sale anymore.

That is adorable!!! 😍

But I imagine my husband would demand I return it if I brought it home

Yeah I bought it as my gift to myself for getting into vet school because I knew my fiance wouldn't have to sleep with it for 4 years 😀 (he doesn't care anyway really). I'm such a tomboy, and anti-floral everything, but for some reason I just kept returning to the sight looking at it. I kept thinking "its not you, stop looking at it". But then I thought, "maybe it IS me if I keep looking at it" 👍 I liked the trees.
All the little colors have the actual name of the color written really tiny on them. It's neat.

One of the many problems with being in a ldr is that my bf is no longer making it to ANY of his morning classes. It was fine before because he would sleep at my apartment every night and I would kick him out of bed in the morning when his alarm went off. But now that he's alone, he just turns the alarm off and goes back to sleep. He's managed to get himself to ONE day of morning classes in the past two weeks, and that was only because I was visiting him that day.

I've tried setting my phone to automatically text him three times to wake him up in the morning. He just sleeps right through them. Today I had to actually call him to make sure he made it to his second class on time, since his lack of response made it clear he'd slept through the first again.

I HATE acting like his mother but I know he's going to screwed if he fails another class. We should just hire someone to go into his room and drag him out of bed every morning. :slap:

Been there, done that with my ex. It's better to find out now rather than later if he can get his ass in gear. You are most likely just enabling him to be dependent on you . I tell you that bc I did it. And it helped zero. I was the only one ever worrying and he was doing nothing to show he cared about our future. Not saying it's the case here, I know you're just venting, but I felt the need to say that 😳.

Worked today. On my day off. Not expecting the guy I went in for who was out sick isn't going to offer to work for me on his normal day off. Will be impressed/surprised if that happens. So that makes today day 7 out of 12 in a row where I have to be at work at 7:30. and then 2 days off and 5 more on, so working 17 out of 19 days. Yay for overtime at least?

Part of the problem is that his meds mess with his sleep patterns. Boy will sleep upwards of 12 hours a day if allowed. So it's not entirely his fault. But you're right that I am probably just enabling him. He's incredibly smart and really wants to finish his degree, but he just doesn't put in the day to day effort required to succeed academically.

And he's talking about going to grad school after he graduates next May. 🙄

Stopping into say hi - and just realized that my Gold Donor Status ran out. I'm just a NORMAL member now! For some reason this depressed me. 😳

my friend's kitten is really sick 🙁 she was spayed last wednesday at our VTH but not sent home on pain meds/abx. thursday she looked great, friday she looked a little depressed. she called the VTH for advice instead of taking her in (she just felt like kitten was painful from abdominal surgery). kitten has been quiet all weekend, but not showing any other CS. her incision looked great, not red or hot, kitten didn't touch it or bother it, no drainage. today she felt like kitten was really ADR, brought her in, and when they started pressing on the incision (after giving a sedative because she was so mean about being touched!) they got a bunch of exudate. kitten is now hospitalized, spiking fevers, and not doing well. i'm so worried for her. i just want her to be fine - we've known this spunky little bugger since she was 4 weeks old (my friend knew her from birth) and hate that theres so much uncertainty about her condition.

My dog ate 2 sticks of butter and some chocolate chips from my groceries (milk chocolate and not THAT many so not uber concerned about kidney effects etc) before I could put them away. She is such a chow hound and acts like I never feed her! Expecting vomit and/or diarrhea overnight. Sure enough... Stepped in the nastiest, slimmest butter vomit ever on my way to the bathroom. She was nice enough to deposit it RIGHT next to the bed for me... I swear, after not feeling well like this a few times you would THINK she'd learn. Dumb dog. Her stupid butt is lucky I love it.

My cat is the same way, except instead of food stuff she'll eat any kind of string she can get her paws on. It's especially bad during the holidays...Christmas tree tinsel and the "grass" in the Easter baskets are her favorite things, even though she throws up *every* time.

My Lenovo tablet only lasted 3 years. RIP.

Brought it in to be repaired and found out to fix the "battery not recognized" error would require a new motherboard $600 and to fix the power outlet plug needing to be re-soldered so it can receive external power would cost $180. (oh, and of course these problems showed up literally a few weeks after the 3 year warranty expired).

Being that I could buy reconditioned "like-new" ones on-line for $400-500, the decision to euthanize was an easy one, as I have no emotional attachment to this thing.

Now I have to decide what I should do. Not really sure.
For now, I am using my desktop at the lab🙂

My dog ate 4 garlic rolls this morning (which is a lot considering her size). Still trying to figure out how she got to them, we suspect the cat knocked a bag off a counter, and the dog picked up the pieces. "Luckily" my other dog had an unrelated upset stomach this morning (he has IBD) so did not participate in the bonanza. SMH

Might I suggest the green easter basket "grass" made of paper? At least then it might disintegrate in her tummy. And if you have cats, just don't use tree tinsel. It's not worth the vet bills or potentially, the life of your cat (which is what my vet tells all his clients).

Who in the blue heck doesn't send home at least some pain meds for a spay? I'm not saying she needs to be on mad amounts of morphine but really now.. 😡

I was wondering the same thing... especially for a procedure done at a VTH?

Oh goooooood. She puked all over her bed in the living room too. But not before she knocked one of the decorative pillows off the couch. That thing is getting trashed fo sho. Omg. I can't deal. This is the nastiest stuff I have ever seen come out of her. Note to self, set the bag with butter in it on the counter....

Oh noes!

Mine is still trucking along. It might get a solid-state hard drive this summer. Of course, I am warrantied until June 2015 - I wanna use it until I graduate, so damnit, I'm making sure that happens.

Not quite a rant...

I'm a frequent visitor to Reddit. Just found a fellow Redditor who claims to be a vet student (quite possibly is, but 'tis the interwebz, so who knows for sure) that is making an *** of himself and the field. Incredibly rude, arrogant, and demeaning. I hope other people on Reddit won't generalize this attitude to the rest of the veterinary student community. 🙁

School sucks. Work sucks. I'm broke. I haven't had a vacation in over a year and I have compassion fatigue to the point of randomly crying and taking it out on SO.

My employer always says "compassion fatigue is serious blah blah...you need to take breaks blah blah." Yeah that's great. Maybe if you gave PTO to those who deserve it, I would be able to take a break.

Had a meltdown this morning.

Also had a huge dog run full speed into my legs this morning and I fell down do hard. =(

🙁 🙁 🙁 I'm sorry MommaFox. It's really hard when you can't afford to take the time you need.

Is there any way to at least take a weekend off to regain your sanity without cutting too much into your paycheck?

I am the only assistant on saturdays so its hard for me to get them off. And I work 11 hour days so financially it is difficult to miss 10 hours on a paycheck. =(

Especially after the vet bills we ran into last week. Hopefully if my jeep sells in the next week I will just force myself to take a week off before summer semester. I am going to just keep having meltdowns if I don't.

I was thinking about your jeep problem the other day. My dad recently sold his lifted TJ for a pretty penny and didn't have much trouble with it (but that's in PA). I would guess that most newbie off-roaders would be looking for a lifted Wrangler over a Cherokee - maybe that's why you're getting so many people who are confused about the lift? Are you just listing it on Craigslist or have you tried putting it on Jeep/Off-roading forums? Maybe you could reach your "target audience" better there?

SO and I are core members in several groups and forums around FL. It just seems that no one has the money...and most are bummed that I'm selling it. I've gotten plenty of interest, they're just from all around the state and no one can come look at it before Sunday. People in my county are mostly city folk...lol. and that's fine but when they get in a lifted vehicle they have no idea what to do with it.

yup it is very surprising that it is not part of the discharge process. i sure as heck would not be a happy camper if my doctor ripped out my uterus and sent me home with nothing. also, intra-abdominal surgery done by a student, shouldn't we just be super sure and give abx prophylacticly?

Our anesthesia professor emphasized that when we do our spays/neuters as students there will be extra pain meds involved since we'll be taking longer and will have a bigger incision/more fumbling than a more practiced vet would. I feel like that's an animal welfare issue, honestly.

Abx seems to depend on the person. Some throw them in no matter what while others seem to be more careful and not give unless direct indication.

I hope she starts getting better soon!

well she definitely had plenty on board peri-operatively, they just didnt send her home with anything. i honestly wonder if its because owner compliance tends to suck here so much? i still don't see that as an excuse though. very surprising to me, doesn't seem very humane to me as well

ugh one thing i am not going to miss about this place is having to worry about being chased by someone's feral dogs while i am taking my dog for a walk (on a leash behaving perfectly). so annoying and sometimes scary! there is not a single route we could take where this is not a risk. usually we're fine and the animals aren't around or are behind a fence, but occasionally they aren't. dont really want my dog or me to be attacked because someone has out of control guard dogs (when we're no where near their property)😡

My poor pup has lots of sad things going on inside her 🙁
Today was a loooong day.

Ugh. That would frustrate me to no end. My neighbors indoor/outdoor cats would come up to my dog like that and I'd always have to get him to run away or try to scare the cat away because he would probably hurt the cat if he could get to it. They have dogs, so the cats don't see an issue with it.

My rant: I think my female piggy had a tiny amount of blood in her urine again. Watching her like a hawk and might take her off pellets entirely.

its extremely frustrating, and its the culture here - these animals really aren't pets, theyre property. i'd like to carry mace or a stun gun or something with me, but alas those are illegal 😎 i'm thinking about trying to desensitize my dog to an air horn this summer. totally harmless but hopefully scary?

your poor little piggy! vet students are so cursed when it comes to animals!!!

What about carrying a squirt gun full of water with you. 😉 Right in the face a few times might deter some of them.

I feel so bad for her if stones are the problem...I can't imagine what they feel like. I'm planning on switching to the limestone free Oxbow Pellets once the email for the next order of supplies comes out. And she already gets Britta filtered/bottled water since Philly has hard water. Maybe I'll give her some Tramadol tonight if she seems ouchy. She was really teeth chattering at the bf last night, which she does, but not quite as loud/as constant as she was last night.

I really want to stop puking and stop feeling nauseous. I feel miserable and I really really don't want to call in tomorrow. I felt like such a jerk face the one time I did before and this time I work with the slowest people on the planet so things wouldn't get done.

Also I feel asleep with my laptop up and my cat walked all over my keyboard messing up my WW spreadsheet.
