🙁
And now I am feeling bad that I have made the decision to leave my cat behind for all 4 years. It is what is best for her, but it breaks my heart.

Leaving behind for vet school =/= craigslist ads about how much you love your kitty but cant possibly move with them because landlord says no / don't have time / cat needs more love and time
FWIW, moving 5 hours away and moving overseas are very different. We recently had a client who was moving overseas surrender his 21-year old siamese because he didn't think he'd make the flight. The kitty now lives with our weekend receptionist and is completely smothered in love on a daily basis. 😀

Don't feel bad - she is still being cared for by your family so it's not like you posted her on Craigslist or took her to a shelter. I have two dogs and three cats. One of my dogs will be staying with my parents while I am in school since she has high anxiety and is fearful around new people. I feel guilty about leaving her but she loves my parents and they adore her, so I think it will be good for everyone.
My other dog and cats are making the move. I have definitely been asked if I'm getting rid of them. Um no, they moved with me from Colorado back to Wisconsin and now they will be moving again.
Yeah... ummm... you know my feels on this.....
the guy is a douche nozzle IMO..... keep the cats.....
tell him that most girls once they find out that he dumped 2 cats to move cross country will realize he has no idea what commitment really is and not want to date him.... nor does he have a heart....
asked a client to call tomorrow regarding her dogs hw and fecal tests to the lab. she sniffs and looks up at me like "so you'll call me?" i repeated no, please call tomorrow to follow up on the tests. she stares at me and goes "so you people can't even make a simple phone call?" i stated that we try to call if it's positive but just as an assurance please touch base regarding the tests. she stared further and just goes "well you'll be in touch, if you can figure out how to."
I meant to ask about this earlier.. so you guys do not call owners with test results? Cause every clinic that I have worked at we called the owner and told them the hw test or fecal result even if negative (we would also record it in the client record that the owner had been called, if we talked to the owner directly, left a message, etc, etc). We actually preferred that they did NOT call us because many times we would not have someone available when they called to discuss results if they were not negative or if the test had not been recorded in the patient history yet then we would have to tell them that we will call them back or call them once the results are in the record.
👍 This is also how my clinic operates. I'd much rather call you and let you know that the fecal/hw/whatever test was negative and leave you a voicemail than be interrupted when I'm trying to to actually do some work!
The one I worked at before was this way. The techs/assistants would call about negative fecal tests, but then the doctor would call if it was + or for bloodwork. HWT, etc we were able to get done before the appointment was over. We also had to send BW/fecals out so we told clients they'd usually get a call within two days.
At my current practice, we just call if we find something in fecals since BW and everything is usually done before the exam is over. The fecals don't always get done right away though.

One of my good childhood friends ended his life recently. I am having a hard time dealing. My brain and heart are broken. He was always so happy and we had the best times together. 🙁
I guess you just never know. 😕
Found out today that a good friend from high school was found dead in his bedroom today. His poor brother found him when his work called to ask why he wasn't at work 🙁 they believe he had a massive seizure ( he has a history of seizures) .. Very very sad.. And I'm supposed to be driving to NY this weekend so I will likely miss the visitation and funeral 🙁

Oh, dear...
My now high school senior friends dealt with a loss that has very similar circumstances within a month and a half ago. A girl had a seizure in the shower and drowned. 🙁
I'm sorry for your loss as well. I send my condolences his family and friends (you inclusive).
Is it just me, or has this year just been miserable?
There was a similar instance of seizure drowning here not too long ago... You aren't from Nashville are you?
I'm very sorry Momma fox 🙁
If a cats got high renal values why would you NOT check the cats urine?
Back at my old hospital dealing with dr b's messes again (just as relief).
Did I mention it belongs to an assistant? Who is now asking me why they wouldn't? And that the kitty is now blocked?

tricare?😡I'm a little irritated that pretty much every health insurance would be required to keep me on past when I turn 23 soon... except my parents'. Gotta love military exceptions.
Tucker?! Did you do surg?
Sent for cath placement and hospitalization. She's going to bring him to me from now on
tricare?😡
I know exactly how you feel. I aged out of tricare about 7 months ago and still haven't found something else because it's either really good and therefore expensive or affordable but will screw you over if something big happens. Everyone keeps asking me why I'm not on their insurance anymore or they tell me I should be covered until I'm 26. Um, no the military does not play by the insurance rules. They like shoving us into the real world a lot sooner.Yup. :c Fantastic insurance, but apparently exempt from some healthcare reform rules.
I know 🙁 I joined the Tricare Young Adult Prime program, which allows me to stay as a dependent under my parents until I am 26. They have to pay a fee for me though. But Tricare is excellent. I am keeping them for vet school as wellYup. :c Fantastic insurance, but apparently exempt from some healthcare reform rules.
I have another rant about this place I am working at (again):
It is really hot out today, low 70's, sun out constantly and the humidity is super high. (I know 70's doesn't seem hot, but for here, that is hot). Anyway, they usually put the animals (rabbits and guinea pigs) outside during the day in larger hutches so that they can eat the grass and enjoy the fresh air. Well, even this morning it was REALLY hot and while there is shade provided in the form of small buckets that they have cut holes into so that animals can get in them (bucket is placed upside down), they really just act as little ovens... it is shady in them, but really hot inside. So if the animals are outside, they really only have a shady oven to keep away from the sun.. 😡
So I ask the supervisor of the pet lodge area if he really wants the animals outside... I say, "Hey, it is really hot outside, are you sure you want us to put the animals outside today? I think it might be best not to." And he says no, put them outside it is fine and they are watering the lawn so the water in the lawn will provide a cool floor... ugh. I am thinking, no it will make it MORE humid.. anyway, we let them outside and watch them constantly. The other vet student and I kept finding random things to throw on top of the hutches to provide better shade than the oven-buckets. Unfortunately, our efforts were not enough, we came back from lunch and one of the guinea pigs was lying unresponsive, but still alive... we started cooling him down brought him into the shade, everything we could... but he died.. 🙁😡
I am just pissed.. I knew it was too hot for them to be out there. I mentioned it was. I should have been more firm about not allowing them outside. Ugh. It really is a Catch-22 though because "inside" is actually a shed with a bunch of cages and the sheds are poorly ventilated, stagnant air sits within them, there are NO fans, NO vents, nothing. Just the whole set-up is bad. This is now the 4th animal that has died at this place in the 13 days I have been there. 🙁😡

Congrats on the 7,000th post! 😀
Rant/Depression/Current State of Mind: But the debt/income ratio numbers have been bumming the hell out of me. I've been seriously debating trying for the military's scholarship and at least being guaranteed a job.
I think it'd be interesting- both of my parents were Army folk and my dad has extended the offer to all of us that he'd go with us to any contract haggling. Both of them had stints as recruiters, lol. And my mom tells me that we'd be considered a part of the Medical branch so they get nicer recruiters. ^^;
Have any of you ever considered the Army as a way to pay off loans?
I've been seriously considering it for a few years now, but unfortunately since I'm going to school in Canada now I'm no longer eligible for the scholarship. 🙁
I'm thinking about direct commissioning after I graduate, but apparently they don't do a whole lot of that anymore. Just going to have to wait and play it by ear I guess.
If you're interested, there were a few threads on this recently. Try searching for "HPSP". The most recent thread was particularly informative.
Thanks for the tip!
Going to a school in a foreign country must be interesting. I'd do it if I thought I could afford it.

What makes you think we can afford it?![]()
