found out yesterday that one of our professor's huge sulcata tortoise was stolen from his home and found poached a few days later 🙁 people are disgusting. my heart aches for the fear and pain that poor gentle animal suffered through, the loss his family feels and particularly for their little girl who made him her best friend. just awful.

This is definitely one of the hardest things for me to deal with in life. Sorry Mr. Tortoise 🙁

i feel like its one of the hardest things for us to remember too as weird as that sounds. i try to remind myself that a difficult patient isn't being difficult to make my life harder, it's that they're scared and worried about things out of their control. my anxiety dog has definitely helped me to see fear and anxiety in more animals.

our class vegan also got on fb and told everyone off for being omnivores. apparently eating meat is the same as poaching an animal? i'm not naive, i know that not all practices are humane, but we received a pretty great education in public health last term so shame on her.

the whole situation sucks. I hate it even more when people twist issues to their soapboxes.

And that's what I was getting at in the vet and vegan thread - no one is going to ostracize you for it, but you can definitely ostracize yourself by making it a huge issue and a point upon which you judge everyone else.

Our class has a few vegs and one vegan that I am aware of, and none of them make a big stink about it. It works out fine. They just check the box on the food form and move on. No big!

this was a pretty big surprise from her, our class is very respectful and quiet about their life choices - we respect them and vice versa. i have no problem with any of the life styles, but it was quite uncalled for to say something like that when the class is grieving for the loss of the tortoise we've been playing with for 2 years.

Please send my condolences to the family. It's never easy to lose a pet, but it must be even harder to know that someone else took them away from you. And your classmate was totally out of line. Now is not the time to be trying to highlight her life choices and why she thinks they're right. Now is a time to comfort those who are grieving. Foot, meet mouth.

My heart goes out to the family 🙁 So sad

The police department in my town is awesome.

The ahole who parked his SUV across my driveway this morning (On the side of the street that has a "no parking" sign about ten feet away) and completely blocked me in? Not so much.
I was nice and waited almost two hours before calling the police. Even pulled my car up as far as I could hoping that owner of said car would peek out a window and get the hint, Police came, tried to contact owner. No answer. PO has been here for over an hour waiting for a tow truck.

So much for getting crap done today. I still have to drive down to OKC at some point. At least I'm not on call but this is seriously effing up my plans for the day.

I am never coming home for a weekend again. I spent way too much on hotel reservations and con registration, and I've made it to one and a half panels and the cosplay contest so far. That's it--I haven't even bought anything!

What did I do instead? Drive from BR an hour and a half to our house to pick up my sister except OH WAIT she's already in the city the con is in, so I stopped here for nothing and have to drive another hour. And then she apparently can't drive her new car so I have to go take care of her (she bumped another car as she was parking in the garage--neither car was even scratched, but she still calls it "smashed her new car").

Even if there was anything we wanted to do later on that night, we couldn't because we have to wake up super early this morning. Why? To drive back and forth to the house in order to move my sister into her dorm for five hours. And then when I do get to the con, I have to run and get parts for my sister's costume because apparently she and her boyfriend are entering the cosplay contest. So of course I have to watch the whole thing--which I did enjoy, and they won Best Group Walk-on, but it made me miss a panel I was really interested in (not to mention the couple I'd wanted to go to this morning).

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to do tomorrow, either, since I need to get back to school and was expecting to have the afternoon to do work (I thought the con ended at noon but it doesn't end until 5).

On the other hand, I could have been learning to do bird physicals and painting doghouses with my classmates and not paying for it if I'd stayed in BR. At this point, I really don't think this was worth it.

More of a whine: My car's signal lights and hazard lights stopped working. The car was with my mechanic the last few days while I was home in Nova Scotia getting some maintenance work done. When do the lights stop working? On the way back to PEI, of course! 🙄 Fuses are fine (in related news, I've learned to replace fuses in my car). Took it to the garage when I got back to the island last night, they think it's the flasher, and tried to repair it. They called me an hour and a half later to tell me the flasher they had isn't compatible and I have to call the dealership (not purchased at that dealership, they just figure a Kia dealership is probably the best place to find the part for my Kia). Step-dad thinks if it is the flasher, I can probably buy one and replace it myself.

(As a related whine, why is it that this car is causing me so much trouble?? I had a 1997 Toyota Corolla for about 5 years. Didn't particularly like anything about it except the gas mileage, but that thing NEVER had anything mechanically wrong with it. I only got rid of it because the body was too rusted to pass another inspection. I now have my little Kia which I love, and it keeps causing me problems. 🙁 )

Korean cars<US cars<German cars<Japanese cars. That's why😉

I hope things work out for you and your Kia. I will cry like a little baby if I ever have to be parted with my Subaru. Gonna run that thing into the ground.

Blasphemy.

haha. I knew you would have something to say about that. I am German...and I will never own a German car..not after I saw someone's VW blow up on the highway..and after I drove my boyfriend's mom's POS TDI...and after I drove my sister's GTI that kept giving her problems. Not a huge fan of the sticker price of a BMW or Mercedes when I can get something just as awesome (HP/performance wise) for for a lot less by buying Japanese.

I loved my Jetta...she was a great car to learn on and I always felt uber safe.

Love my Subaru now though....

Ugh....we had an explorer and an escape...all they ever had were problems

I had a mustang for my first and now a sedan, i love both. I've had minimal issues and driven the crap out of both. Maybe I'm lucky.

As to one brand versus another, or one nationality versus another, after seeing numerous cars owned by my family and friends, I swear it's luck of the draw. Two exact same cars can be bought and driven in the exact same manner and one will run for decades and one will be a lemon and blow up after 3 months. As for randomness, car problems alway seems to be on par with vet school admissions.

🙄 People who try to push their vegan/vegetarian beliefs on everyone else are annoying. You don't convert anyone, you just teach people to avoid eating lunch with you. Lol.

After all the orientation stuff I've been exhausted. Between Thursday and Friday night I got about 6 hours of sleep. Well my friend was having a party last night in my hometown (about an hour away) and I decided to take a nap to be ready for the drive. I ended up sleeping from 4 in the afternoon to 2 am completely missing it. I sent her a few texts apologizing but she won't answer me. I don't make friends easily and it sucks to lose one of the few friends I have over something like this.

You don't have time for that drama. If your insecure, child of a friend can't empathize with your situation then to hell with that noise.

Yes, I love me some German cars and am not quiet about it. I love my GTI. It's an 07 with 70k miles. I take good care of it and have never had any problems with it. My dad indoctrinated me from a young age into the cult of Porsche fanatics, I never stood a chance

Love love love my Ford F-150. Even though a giant rusty piece just fell off of it in the AVC parking lot. Don't think I needed that one anyway. 🙄

My F-250 is picked out and waiting for me 😀 Once I hit the jackpot, anyway. My little 08 focus is great for right now.

Sitting hurts, and studying requires sitting (for me to write stuff down). So, I have looked into buying a standing desk for home... They are freaking expensive! 😡

When I get bored, I go online and build trucks on dealer websites and dream about the day I can afford one. I lean more towards Chevy than Ford though.

I have a little vw rabbit that I adore. 07 too. I wanted a gti so bad but I fell in love with my ridiculous red rabbit.

Omg I do this too!

I may also do a double-take on the road when I see a particularly sexy one....

I do this as well 😀

And regarding sexy trucks, I'm the first one to yell out the rolled down window "NICE TRUCK" and/or oogle them if they're parked

I'll have to give it you guys, Ford, Chevy, and Ram have the best trucks out there.

My boyfriend and I joke around and say that we will have 6 kids. So recently I've been looking at 8 passenger cars...Choices are shady van or huge a** Lexus...hopefully by then there will be more choices!

Kia and Hyundai have both made leaps and bounds in the last six years or so. So I find this assessment unfair.

What other Korean cars exist here, anyway?

And have you SEEN the Optima lately?

I've always been a Ford girl, but I can't help but stare down some of the new Rams on the road.

They are just so......:naughty:

And see, now I feel like a creep feeling that way about a truck.

My husband and I were looking at gmc and chevy trucks to replace my 97, and the 3/4 ton diesels are outrageous! 🙁

lol, I do this with motorcycles. My boyfriend learned pretty quickly that when my head swivels as a motorcycle goes past, it's because I'm staring at the bike and not the guy riding it.

Despite my adoration for trucks, I've never dated a guy with one. This might be why i haven't found mr. right yet...:idea::idea:

They do look nice. But I'm not about the looks. HP, performance, safety, reliability, durability. I test drove a Kia like 2 years ago..super slow. I think they just came out with a turbo option for Optima..haven't heard much about it. I'd be down to try it out, though.

holy crazy milage.

I have an 05 focus that is just over 70,000 miles. and I bought it when it was a year old with 17,000 miles.

I think there is an inverse relationship between the sexiness of trucks and the sexiness of the guy driving.

All the good lookin' guys seem to drive the old rust buckets not the pretty ones that make me drool

Some tool left a present in my building elevator....:annoyed:

You do have a point... I'd take an old rust bucket though 😀 (Truck, not the guy. I have some standards!)

Since we're talking about cars, I have to throw my two cents in on the new-to-us Subaru we just got. It's great! I'm really, really pleased with it. It's an '04 with a decent amount of miles on it but feels sturdy and I can't wait to see what it does in the snow. It's also got really great safety ratings which was important to me after being in a major accident a year ago. I grew up driving Jeeps and loved my old Jeeps (including the '94 Wrangler I was driving when I was hit by a drunk driver. Despite not having airbags that thing was a tank - I walked away with a few scratches but the other guy had to be removed from his car with the jaws of life). I'd still be driving a Jeep if they weren't so god awful on gas mileage. 🙁

My Silverado is awesome and runs like a champ at 155K miles. Every mechanic I've ever been to compliments me on what great shape it's in. Love my truck 😍
