Two 2007 manual Honda Fits, no problems (other than the ex taking the first one 😡) Very fun to drive, can park it anywhere, and the current one gets 40+ MPG highway.

My friend has the new Optima and it looks like a boat compared to my little car! She's all about it though.

My first car was a 1990 Mazda 626. It was still running when I sold it... I think it had 315k miles at that point.

They do look nice. But I'm not about the looks. HP, performance, safety, reliability, durability. I test drove a Kia like 2 years ago..super slow. I think they just came out with a turbo option for Optima..haven't heard much about it. I'd be down to try it out, though.

Well, I haven't driven one. But I am quite fond of my Sonata, which is also Korean.

Things were going great today... until my brother stumbled in, likely drunk, with some woman I've never seen before.

Why does this bother me profusely?

A. While he has been living with me for the last three years, the apartment is currently being leased only to me. Our parents supply part of the rent, but all utilities, most groceries, and most sundries come out of my monies.

B. Most things in the apartment are mine, including the bed he sleeps on (only his clothes, books, and one bookshelf are really his).

C. My apartment is my home, as such I have "valuables" strewn about, jewelry, electronics, banking things, etc. I LIVE there. Having these strange people stomping through my habitat is such an huge invasion, that I'm surprised I haven't told them to GTFO. Hey, there's still time, right?😡

D. He's kind of a selfish douche bag and he never gives me any warning that he will be bringing anyone home and, get this, he never introduces these women (assuming he knows their names). Sure, it's not like there's a different one every night, but even those who come back, aren't introduced. I know their faces, but I don't know their names. I'm willing to give him some privacy, but in return he needs to be respectful of me and my damn property.

It's been awhile since I've visited the "HE NEEDS HIS OWN F-ING PLACE" argument, but I think it's time. He has two jobs now and still doesn't contribute to any expenses. He eats 2/3's of the food and rarely cleans up anything or takes out the trash. If I get into vet school in-state and choose to keep renting my apartment, I'm not putting up with his crap.

I don't think he understands how good he has right now and how lenient I've been considering what a huge dick he is.

Well, that's my rant.

(Also, I have to get up early and head into work but now I'm so pissed off and weirded out by this old-looking strange woman in my apartment that I'll probably stay up all night until she leaves..... make sure she doesn't steal ****.)

😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

My ex and his sister found their dad dead today. I'm having trouble approaching the situation bc things are insanely complicated between us. I don't want to re-initiate communication but I felt I needed to send him my condolences. I can't even imagine finding my dad dead. He had been there a few days too 🙁. I found myself tearing up because he was my second family for 7 years. I just feel so badly for him and his sister. How do you get that picture out of your head? I'm just in a state of shock right now. I feel guilty for feeling sorry for my ex, which makes me feel guilty for feeling that way :uhno:
It's just weird.

You're being wayyyyyyy more lenient than I would be! Swing the gavel down!

🙁 Been in similar situation with one my brothers and also with a co-worker. I will say this:

Sometimes pushing them out of the nest IS the best thing you can do for them. If you really love him and want him to do something with his life, push him out! Give him 30 days to find his own place, set a date. On that date, if he isn't out, change the locks and he is only allowed to come get HIS things when you are home.

True facebook message that I just wrote:

Sorry, I don't want to be rude, but you don't really have a good track record of listening to anything I have to say anyway (in fact you went ahead and went directly against the one piece of advice I felt strong moral obligation to give), so I would actually really appreciate it if you stopped contacting me for veterinary advice. I generally don't mind helping friends out with as much as I can, but you're making me really uncomfortable. Please just unfriend me if that bothers you.

ugh...

The "Free WiFi" that my apartment supposedly comes with is an outright lie. The wireless signal comes from the main house, about a football field's length away from my apartment. In order to pick up any signal at all, I have to sit as close as possible to one of the windows facing the house. Even then, the signal is weak and pages take forever to load. If my cat happens to jump in the window, I lose all connection.

Now that the tenants in the third apartment have returned, it seems there are too many people on the same internet connection, and although I'm picking up a faint signal I keep getting the "Limited Connectivity" warning, meaning I actually have no internet whatsoever. I couldn't even download my Phys slides to study last night because I couldn't get online at all. 😡

My landlord's solution to this is to offer me a dial-up connection. I feel like I'm going back in time. 🙄

Some solution. A signal amplifier would probably be cheaper to install and maintain, plus happier tenants.

That's why I never like it when complexes offer free services. I'll take the free cable, but I'm way too particular about my internet speed to accept whatever "free" really means which is usually code for slow, limited, and inconvenient.

My apartment complex has changed management. With this change, the online rent paying option has gone away for now (annoying). So I went to the bank to get some checks. Just went to fill one out and apparently the guy typed in the wrong account number so I can't use them. Guess I have to go back to the bank today.

I always have lousy luck with banking. :d I feel your pain!

Dang it. I've been studying for the GRE (really just studying for the verbal) and I took a practice test through Kaplan ... 75th percentile quant ... 53rd percentile verbal. UGH!!!!! Whoever thought standardized tests would be a good measure of intelligence is wrong, just wrong.

That is all.

Fire of a thousand suns!! I finally received my diploma in the mail (three and a half months after graduation), and they SPELLED MY NAME WRONG!!

Seriously? All my bills and online stuff have my name spelled correctly. Tens of thousands of dollars later and they can't get it right? WTF.

How is it that no matter where I live, UPS/FedEx deliveries are always late in the day? I'm getting something today that requires a signature so I've been sitting around for hours. Does anyone get deliveries before 4pm? It's some weird time-space continuum thing

I do now at my new house (got a box today from Amazon before noon!!) but last year at my apartment I wouldn't get deliveries until like 6:30 or 7.

Yeah, I'm thinking about getting a range extender for myself for the time being. Not sure how expensive they are, but I don't think I can survive the semester without internet. Ideally my landlord would be paying for it, but I highly doubt that will ever happen. Though I have heard you can make your own out of a Pringles can . . . might have to look into that.

I would still be worried that it would be a poor connection. Only so many people can connect to a router at a time (set up by the owner, probably maxes out at around 20 for normal home routers) and I dunno how fast that connection is, but if its only like 5mbps... That's enough for like 2-3 people tops.

When they offer free wifi, they offer it in your apartment or just in the main office? It seems super weird that they would try to offer it in the apartment.

The ad for the apartment claimed that there was "cable TV upstairs and downstairs, DVD player, and WiFi". In reality, the apartment has cable TV upstairs only (with no ability to connect my own modem, sadly), no dvd player, and the crappiest wifi ever.

The wifi is just in the main house, and my apartment is attached to the barn. When I told the landlady I was having problems connecting to the network, she replied "Oh, you'll have to sit at the kitchen window. Or sometimes you can get it if you sit next to the bedroom windows." Like that was a perfectly acceptable explanation. 🙄

There was a third or fourth year student living here before me, and I really have to wonder how she managed.

Is this in your lease?

Either way I would pretty much state that I would not be paying rent until the issue was resolved... ie wifi internet installed in my place of residence (apartment) so that I could use it no matter where the feck I sat... that is beyond ridiculous... and false advertising.... you could turn them in for that (to whatever org takes care of tenant/LL relations/regulations)

Here in Gville too. I sat around to 8pm for my laptop delivery because it required a signature. I have also lived in almost every quadrant of this town and deliveries have always been late. I wonder who those people are who get early morning deliveries cause tracking always says 6am out for delivery.

Friend on FB: "Any vet friends have any input? My dog is on allergy shots and already has been on antibiotics and pred and he's still super itchy"
Me: "Call your vet and discuss possible mange, it's super itchy and miserable and usually untouched by typical allergy treatments. Treated easily with a topical"
Rando person: "NO DRUGS!! Essential oils!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Renal physiology. Just...ugh...

Look up "handwritten tutorials" on YouTube. There are about 6 renal ones (you can type in "handwritten tutorials glomerular filtration" for example.) They helped me with renal last year.

I know there are a few of you on reddit, so I'm sorry if you're seeing this again:

...effing RAGE. I'm just sitting here gritting my teeth, hoping that my bp doesn't sky rocket. Don't even get me started about the comments.

😡😡😕😕

Lemon juice, that is a new one....

I have heard a lot... including garlic... 🙄

Some people are just dumb and you can't fix dumb.

My favorite was the lady who claimed to me that her severely dehydrated, anemic, agonally breathing puppy was not suffering, was not in pain and that "god would protect her and heal her".... not really much I could say, once god is thrown in the picture. She left without doing anything for the puppy so we had to call animal control for a welfare follow up. I am sure that puppy died, probably that night.

People love their snake oil. Though, it is sad how there seems to be more and more people who are so distrustful of their veterinarians.

Many people don't understand confirmation bias.... or anything related to any science ever. They don't know how to locate appropriate sources on the internet and they have this weird belief that skepticism is always bad and "open-mindedness" has no limits.

Not much you could say because she was clearly delusional or because you didn't want to question her beliefs?

Not much you could say because she was clearly delusional or because you didn't want to question her beliefs?

I had already discussed all of parvo virus with her, what it does, how it affects the body, how it causes pain, how her pet looks, that the process of the disease is very painful, how her pet is anemic, what is causing that, how her pet is struggling to breathe, etc, etc.

I had also already discussed all treatment options, offered a free parvo test (she was complaining she had no money), parvo test was positive. When she could not afford anything (we offered payment plans, etc), we offered a free euthanasia to end the pet's suffering and that is when she came back with, "You are NOT killing this dog, he (she, can't remember) is NOT in pain, GOD is protecting him and HE will heal him."

Basically, nothing I can say but what I already had. Told her that we would have to have animal control follow up because it is animal negligence/abuse to not provide treatment at that point (even if it is just pain meds to help with a peaceful passing) and that her puppy has a great chance of passing away within the next 24 hours. She just believed god would work a miracle and the puppy would live.... not sure if she was delusional or what, but I am not going to argue about someone's religious beliefs. I can only offer what we know to be true and tell them that as the vet said, the puppy is seriously ill and at great risk of dying without treatment.

What a lame night. At the ER clinic during my shift tonight we saw 4 dogs. 3 were awful, sad, traumatic euthanasias. Like; dog was fine two hours ago and now is dying kind of things. Plus! 3 hours until my next shift, and it's not exactly easy to sleep while thinking about the families of those three poor dogs. One was even a service dog.

JESUS CHRIST! What's the point of going to lab on a SATURDAY morning, when all you're gonna do with your group is gab and stuff your face. For ****'s sake!!!!!! 😡😡😡😡

Ahhh the animal planet article has been mentioned in here as well. 😡

Fecking ridiculous.

Yesterday I was reminded why I don't like people very much. We had a client who had an appointment at 2:30 with a vomiting dog, which he originally tried scheduling the appointment for vaccines that are 8 months overdue. We're an appointment only clinic (unless an emergency walks in like a HBC and then we stabilize them for transfer to someone who can monitor them during weekends and nights). He calls us 20 minutes after his appointment was supposed to start to tell us he was almost there. I tell him that we can't see the dog because we have a 15 minute late policy so we'd have to reschedule or (the more recommended choice) go to the emergency 5 minutes down the street. He refuses and asks if there's anything we can do. My coworker tells him (because I had to put someone in a room) that there's nothing we can do and highly recommend the emergency. I'm not sure how the conversation ended, but next thing I know he's sitting in our lobby. He then tells us he's going to see if his friend, who had an appointment with us yesterday as well, will give him her spot. She told him no. As he was leaving, he had the gull to ask us if there's anyway to at least get 10 minutes of the doctor's time. We were all just amazed and highly annoyed. It was the most disrespect thing I had encountered thus far. Seriously dude, would you ask your doctor to do the same thing you asked us?
