In addition to the cold temperatures, my rant is that there is a big snowstorm headed our way this weekend that could quite possibly trap me on this island for several extra days. Now instead of going out for a fun, relaxing post-finals dinner with my classmates on Friday night I will have to rush straight back to my apartment after our final and launch myself into a packing and cleaning frenzy so I can be ready to leave by 5 AM on Saturday. I just want to rest!!! Stupid storm.
This also means I run the risk of driving directly into the storm depending on how quickly it moves north. I should probably plan a few bail out points just in case. Ugh.
I'd like to second this.
Except I'm flying out so I have no control over whether I'm leaving or not. And unfortunately crossing the border with an endangered species means that you have to have appointments with Environment Canada, US Fish and Wildlife, and the USDA port veterinarian. All of which must occur Monday through Friday between 8am and 2pm. With at least 72 hours prior notice.
So to recap: if my flight is grounded I lose my hotel room on Sunday night, the appointments Monday morning at the border, and then need another 3 days to give notice before I cross. Also, AirCanada will not fly birds and WestJet only flies here 3 days a week which means the soonest I would get home would be the following Friday. 😡
TLDR; stupid storm might keep me on the island an extra week.
