Mosquitoes are the bane of my existence in the summer. I'm so ridiculously itchy. I've been living on bendadryl and I'm covered in giant welts from the bites. Must try not to scratch

More important rant. Car won't start so I'm stuck in the parking lot of pancheros. On the plus side there is a cold stone creamery next door.
 
I almost walked out of work today. My one co-worker was drunk (again), another is out for a week because her fiancé got busted for heroin and she's an addict and is having a "break down", another is out for who knows how long because he broke protocol with a viscous dog and almost got his arm torn off and will be milking it as long as he can to get pain meds. How is it ok to have that many addicts in one place with access to controlled drugs?!

Dog peed on the expensive ass hand scraped wood floors in the new house. Any guesses as to how that turned out? Yeah, I didn't think about her occasional accidents when I was picking a house (and the associated floors).
 
Carbon monoxide alarm went off at 1am, then stopped making noise after battery replacement. Called FD just to be careful and yup, we had a leak from our gas heater. Cue evacuation of the humans, four ferrets (one of which got loose and we later found in the dryer...), two cats, two dogs, and just for good measure, our neighbor's dog and (absolutely beloved) budgie. So I'm now going to bed at 4am and have no hot water... but I'm not dead!

Yeah, really. Right now the alcoholic is bothering me the most because she's so obviously slurring belligerent drunk in front of clients and my boss and office manager refuse to see it and have suggested that I'm seeing/smelling things that aren't really there. Just about everyone else we work with has noticed too, but they never say anything since nothing is going to be done about it anyway.
 
:boom: the system we used to type up discharges just crashed during what I felt was going to be a nicely written discharge for owners who were becoming quite difficult (although their 10 month old doodle looks like absolute crap)

GRAWR. So my old roommate and I split utilities - she paid internet and I paid electric and we split the others down the middle. When it came time to renew the internet, she handled it, I never saw the bills or even really knew what she was paying after the first deal ended.

Fast forward to May and moving out. We needed to find a new renter to get out of our lease early, and I handled that and got it done. I canceled the electricity, no problems. Roommate tells me I'm the one who needs to call internet since originally it was under my name. I call them, explain the situation, the guy says okay no problem lets get you canceled, got a confirmation number, checked it off the to do list.

Fast forward again to late last week and I get a call from my roommate saying the internet company is trying to charge us $170 early cancellation fee. I'm like wtf that's not cool, which is when she informs me technically we were under contract with them. First I'm hearing of it, and I'm wondering why the guy I talked to to cancel never mentioned it and she didn't just take care of it since she knew we were under contract. She asks me to call them to see what we can do.

Fast forward finally to today when I finally can call them during their open hours. I get put on hold and transferred between 5, yes that is FIVE, different people and am on the phone for nearly an hour, all for them to tell me sorry, there's nothing they can do. Seriously??? Now I don't know what to do. Other than I did manage to find out that yes, former roommate IS on the account, and she definitely could have called and taken care of it.

I feel like my former roommate is going to be pissed and try to either make me pay the fee or split it with me, because she's absolutely broke whereas I'm just mostly broke. But I'm sitting here going this was not my deal. Yes I was the one who encouraged us to get out of our lease 2 months early, but apparently this internet contract she signed up for went through December, which is why the fee was so high. Why would she sign a contract through December?? Especially because the first one was up in August and even then we were talking about only staying in a month to month lease!

TL; DR: Internet company trying to nab $170 and I'M SO MAD
 
my parents have 2 collies. one is ABCB1 (+/+) [aka normal] and one is supposedly a carrier for the gene. on the normal one, they use Heartgard (they've used this product for probably close to 2 decades now). on the carrier, they have been using Sentinel, because the breeder asked them not to use ivermectin-containing products on the dog because she knows ivermectin can be dangerous, even if its not in dangerous levels in heartworm preventatives. no amount of rational or intelligent (and my parents are very intelligent, highly educated people) thinking will get them to change their minds. doesnt matter that these drugs are the "same" because they are both macrocyclic lactones, and thus processed the same way by mutant dogs. doesn't matter that neither dog is actually a mutant. doesn't matter that they have like 3 years worth of heartgard stockpiled. they think it is "better" to follow the breeder's recommendations. i feel like my education is a waste. :smack:

That stinks your roommate signed a contract knowing you guys wouldn't be there the whole time! Did you tell them you are moving? I also wanted out of my internet/cable contract a few months earlier and they wanted to charge an early cancelation fee. I told them I was moving and they said that was a qualifying event to waive the fee.

Most of the providers I've had will let you transfer a service to a new address or let you walk away if you're moving (presumably because you move outside the service area). That seems fishy to me. Cable/internet companies are notorious for badgering customers and lying about things just to make a sale or a buck. Do you have access to the contract so you can at least read the terms regarding the cancellation fee?
 
I'm starting to get really annoyed with people who don't have jobs and don't do anything constructive with their time/lives except bitch and whine about things on facebook that absolutely don't concern them. And people that make huge effing deals over nothing on facebook. Or maybe I'm just jealous that I can't sit on my butt all day and do nothing. Or sit on my butt all day and just whine about how ****ty I feel all the time.

I have a friend from high school who bitches about having to work late on a Friday. Or anytime that she has to work overtime. She will be like... "Ugh, worked 45 hours this week, again. I am so sick of overtime." And I just... I can't. Most recent from her was some attention-getting post that went something like: "I am so done with this. I am leaving facebook again, not that anyone cares because no one noticed the last time that I left."

i had a little bit of an inside look about IT development at Penn Vet. It is not a pretty sight.
 
The house still doesn't feel like a home. Or bills are giant this month, plus we just made a massive down payment on the house. And I had to euthanize my fuzz butt kitty today, which was really, really difficult. I feel guilty about it even though he was really struggling to breathe, because he was all *there* - he just couldn't breathe well. Ugh.

I have a neighbor lady whose late-20-or-early-30-something son lives with her. Dresses like a slob. Doesn't do any of his mom's yard-work. Doesn't have a job. Pretty much does nothing but live off mom and play videogames. I think that's bad enough (not hating on the videogames - I love videogames - but it shouldn't be your LIFE), but .... we live at the end of the block on the end of the cul-de-sac (translation: it's a dead end street). He insists on FLYING down the road and screeching through the cul-de-sac into mom's driveway. I have young kids, including a 4-year-old. We have neighbor kids. They all love to play in he dead-end cul-de-sac. He's a danger. It really pisses me off. Bad enough you're a lazy ass who is doing nothing but burning up the world's oxygen and food supply .... but then you have to put my kids at risk, too? How about just slowing down and watching for all the kids in the neighborhood. Seriously, dude, it will cost you maybe 2.5 seconds in your day.

On another note, my first two patients tonight, including a super-cute 3-week-old kitty, died while I was doing their initial exam. Always a great way to start a shift.

To various people in my life:
Yes, B is moving in with me (into the second bedroom) because he got a job in this city and it helps both of us out financially. Yes, B is a male. No, this does not imply anything romantic whatsoever, not now or in the future. Honestly, it would be like dating my brother, and he has a girlfriend. This is 2015. A man and a woman can share an apartment while being totally platonic. Get over it. /rant
 
Moving is a rant in and of itself, but only a pair of friends who live close to our new place have offered to help with anything. This includes my parents and my sister/her boyfriend and various other friends who the husband and I have all helped move at some point (and my husband is a big strong dude and has done a lot of heavy lifting for people). It just really frosts my cookies the way that works out. I get it - everyone hates moving, but can no one repay the favor, even just a little? We don't even have furniture so its pretty much just small boxes/totes and bags of clothes to be trucked back and forth.

TT, I'm really sorry about your kitty 🙁 It sounds like you did the right thing for him though and gave him a little extra time. Hang in there.

I know it seems unfair to you that I am home more but not paying a lot of attention to you while I recover from surgery. I know you are jealous that the amount of sleep I am getting threatens your records. It is even worse that I will not deign to do your bidding during my "vacation". However, when the phone rings abruptly awakening me from a drug-induced nap, it is not time to begin singing the song of your people together. Especially when I cannot easily hold the phone and must place it on speaker-phone. My physician is not interested in your opinions.

It's been a rough week in anesthesia from a compassion fatigue standpoint. Today we unexpectedly lost a really good patient under anesthesia. It was rough but I was feeling alright about it because it wasn't my patient and it happened out of my sight, I was just bummed to lose such a sweet dog. Then I got off work and pulled up my Facebook and realized this dog belonged to a friend of mine from undergrad. That was a real gut punch. I definitely need a weekend to do something else for a while.
 
Came in for morning pick ups and treatments to find out that my lunch that I left in the fridge overnight for today was tossed. Apparently there is a sign on the fridge saying anything in there after 6 PM on Friday will be thrown away. I obviously should have read the sign, but still doesn't take away the annoyance of the fact that I lost my yogurt, apple, trail mix, salad with chicken, two tupperware containers and maybe a few other items in there. Figured the sign said things like the other fridges about how they would be cleaned on like the first and 3rd Friday of every month or just twice a year...

The people above me have a smoke detector that must be low on battery... it's been chirping since last night and I wasn't able to sleep because of the noise. What a way to start finals week. 😡
 
Recently, if I fall asleep on my back, I will randomly wake up choking/coughing really hard and my throat will be raw and sore the next couple of days. This has happened three times in the past couple of weeks and now my voice is really hoarse. I have a bit of a stuffy nose, so at first I thought it was allergies (which is weird, because I've NEVER had summer allergies), but everything on good ol' Google says it's likely GERD or sleep apnea. Ugh . . . why me???

That used to happen to my boyfriend a lot. He started taking an omeprazole 1-2 hours before bed and it helped a lot. He rarely does it now.
 
I have sleep apnea, and I can tell you that raw/sore throat is not a part of it. When I actually wake to full consciousness because of it, it's more like with a bulldog gurgle and the sensation of relieving asphyxiation. Then back to completely normal. The sleep specialist attending was explaining to the intern that he should test me vigorously for breathing issues when testing for narcolepsy, because in her words, "I mean, look at her face!" Apparently I'm the human equivalent of a brachycephalic. The description on my medical report is kind of hilarious.
 
My parent's St. Bernard has an ear infection, I'm pretty sure. Smelly, bleeding, she's constantly scratching at it. Regardless, my mom asked "what do?" I said, go to vet, get some ear drops.
Today my mom tells me that my dad's proposed treatment is to use a cotton ball with coconut oil. My dad, who grew up on a farm....

it used to be mineral oil before coconut oil was in vogue.
 
I think every veterinary hospital should have a special soundproof, padded room available in the back. That way, when clients get completely freaking ridiculous, you can just say "Wait just a sec," go in the room, scream, punch a wall or two, and then walk back to the client and continue on with your day. I just don't think it's healthy for me to just keep suppressing these feelings day after day, year after year...
